I third this suggestion. 1. start with bo-yo 2. then art is dead. 3. Then "can't handle this" kanye rant. 4. Then all eyes on me. 5. welcome to the internet. 6. white woman's instagram. 7. the chicken song. That order of bo, is ultimate impact. very good.

Yeah, most of the reactions I've seen to this are "Haha women's feet and racial slurs ! Ooh I like the colors on he ceiling !". This song actually fills me with existential dread and despair.

Bo’s societal commentary is on a whole other level! Almost all of his songs (regardless of how funny) all have that dark, uncomfortable thematic undercurrent of something being very wrong with humanity. You really can’t go wrong with his back catalogue, the whole thing is fire. A couple songs of note: -From Gods Perspective -Pandering -Art is Dead -Left Brain, Right Brain -Straight White Male Loved the reaction! Liked and subscribed for more Bo Cheers!

another interesting thing that I think is significant, the SPEED of the song. It already starts off quick, but then goes faster and faster. Representing how time just escapes us and goes faster and faster the more we lose ourselves in the internet. Until a stop, and then a "memory of the past" where he slows it down, where time wasn't so quickly lost. Only to "flashforward" back to today after his laugh and quickly pick up tempo again, only even more chaotic with the added reverb of his voice. Bo did an amazing job with this.

as someone close in age to Bo Burnham, and as someone who was there to watch the internet grow from my childhood in the late 90s into what it is today, this song really hits so many notes and historical fact of the internet's age and cultural progression. almost every line he said in this song, I was there to witness first hand (yes, even THOSE lines, they were NOT jokes!), and that ending... It feels like seeing a monster be created, and now we are the ones seeing a new generation grow up with all of this from the start, and like a devil's deal, many of them have sold their souls to it. I feel like that's what the final part of the song signifies, acting all sweet and nice about it being the plan to put the world in your hand... and then that diabolical laughter as it's accepted, in exchange for anything and everything, all of the time.

You should listen to "That Funny Feeling" from the same "Inside" special. Very on-point with his commentary on the feeling of stuckness between our technological innovations and increasing social isolation and friction.

Bo was born in 1990 and I was born in ‘89. It’s such a bizarre place to be in, being part of the very last generation to remember life before the internet completely took over. It was a wild, wild west back then, in the early days of the internet. It has shaped us in ways that we may never fully understand.
@LeeHowardArt6 күн бұрын
His entire Inside Netflix special is goddamn ART. Absolutely give it a watch, if you haven’t already done so. Also, look up his ‘Kanye Rant’ song he did years back. It’s brilliant (especially learning he was having massive anxiety attacks on stage & then quit performing for years).
@thomasdaub544516 күн бұрын
The stand up program was done during the quarantine caused by Covid and is something very special. I have no idea how it feels when you watch it today, but at the time it captured a very special feeling, it was terrific. Bo is a very special artist, something like him doesn't happen often.
@xtldc23 күн бұрын
You really should see the entire INSIDE special, which he wrote, filmed, performed, and edited by himself during COVID lockdowns. While it documents a very personal experience of his own relationship with the internet and the fame it brought him, it is also broad enough that it makes a serious impact on the viewers as related to their own experiences online and in the modern world as well.

you need to hear his OG stuff he was even more unhinged and crazy in his original old 2010s content when he first got big off youtube songs like "New Math" and "Im BO Yo" he then started getting into some really good stuff before he quit for a long time period. But his "Country Song" and "Lower Your Expectations" are also great things to dive into.

Thanks Maddy! Hysterical and brutally true. I think in 20 years we’ll look back and say, How could we give iPhones to our children, with handheld access to internet 24/7 (those parents who think they control what their children do with phones are probably in for a shock-I was when the best kids in my class would admit to having a secret phone). It’s like x-rays in the 50s. You could actually go to a shoe store and x-ray your feet! They didn’t understand yet how bad that was for the body-and as I understand it, the dose was really high compared to a dentists x-ray now-and hitting everyone in the store!

Highly recommend watching the entire special on Netflix. There's also a companion special on KZbin using material he didn't use. And I saw someone recommend the Bo Burnham rabbithole. I second that. Bo started as a kid, so he's been around nearly as long as KZbin, has grown up with it, just about seen it all, and he has thoughts.
@joshuawiedenbeck694410 күн бұрын
How refreshing to see a reactor actually understand the main theme of the song instead of laughing at the face value of it. 2005 was a turning point for the internet (KZbin started), and it's all been downhill from there.

I mean the Naval Research Laboratory did, for the military, then it expanded, by users for users. Then again for nerds, by nerds. Then a weird middle area before deep commercial saturation, it was for people largely by people. Since people=eyeballs=ads=money it was then directed by companies, marketing teams (hits and misses there), and then massive corporations. Now as opposed to marketing towards (hoping to hit their mark) companies are hoping to set it ahead of time.

Bo Burnham is the Tom Lehrer of his generation. If you don't know who Tom Lehrer is, he's a retired math professor, engineer, and musical comedy lyricist and performer, best known for such ditties as, "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park", "Werner Von Braun", "The Masochism Tango", and "The Elements Song". There's a Copenhagen performance that I highly recommend, albeit at 50 minutes it may be too long to justify for a reaction video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3mznoWAftSWaM0

Bo Burnham 1st time hearing one of his comedy specials hated all of it in 1st 5min. Watched whole thing to give chance. Later on when the 'Welcome to the Internet' (and the rest of the 'Inside' album) was released my friends were obsessed. Claiming genus but I hate every second of it. The annoying theater kid persona was not made for me (shrug).
