I always got the feeling the town made her see James as her mom at first and then showed it was James to get through to her to stop looking at her awful mom to save her and instead recognize that James saved her. Say what you will about what James did to Mary, he did save Angela and tried to save Eddie regardless of what ending you got.

As someone who works in the care industry, a lot of the people I see have dementia. Most of these people are taken care of by their partner. In the later stages of the disease, they usually can become aggressive both physically and mentally. Their partners whole live resolves around taking care of them 24/7, even through all the aggressiveness that can come with it. Whilst I don’t agree with what James did and dont recommend it 😅, unless you've cared for someone with a terminal illness, only then you can understand why you may love and yet hate someone and wish you could have your "old" life back

For some reason, your comment made me solve a weird aspect of the story. James said his wife died 3 years ago when it was really less than a week. 3 years ago is their last trip to Silent Hill, and she starts coughing on the tape. So, she got diagnosed 3 years ago and that's why James's delusion causes him to think she died then. That was the time he felt like he lost her.

I thought the combat was great, personally. It perfectly balanced the survival horror resource management aspect better than any other game in the genre, and enemies are very carefully designed to always be a risk to fight with melee and usually get some hits on you. It's like a 10/10 in this aspect whereas the original game, Signalis and (to a lesser extent) Hollowbody really didn't understand survival horror mechanics and their combat systems felt almost entirely like a waste of time and space. Even Resident Evil, which previously did the formula best, inundates you with ammo in the last 3rd of pretty much every game.

I think that many people are judging Maria to harshly. At the end, many people think, that she is just some kind of deamon/monster who was manipulating James all the time. But its not true. After Born From a Wish we know its not that simple. She is not just a monster without her own feelings. I think that all endings are tragic. Well, obviosly not joke ending. In every ending someone need to be sacrificed. I really dont believe that Maria deserved whot happened to her, if you think about it, in a sense, its James fault that she even exist. Honestly, most "fair" ending is Water ending. And I dont even hate on James. This whole story is big tragedy and everyone invlolved suffers.

She is the reincarnated Mary. The game is not subtle about it, from her butterfly tattoo to the DLC to her actually having some memories of Mary. Surprised that people are okay with James's memories being a mess, but they wouldn't extend the same interpretation to Maria. They're quite funny in that regard. And yes, the fable of the star crossed lovers, the patron saint of love and her devoted amor, is about Mary and James. They can't go any clearer than this I swear. I chuckled when he said "Yes this is about Alan Wake" 😂

I wonder what the symbolism is of Maria dying 3 times, other than maybe James's psyche trying to come to terms with Mary being dead.
@MiggetyMattR27 күн бұрын
@@SniperDiplomat I always saw it as James' mind forcing him to come to terms with the fact that Mary is dead. I think Pyramid Head killing her is like the town subconsciously showing James what he did. I think the scene where you collect the Great Knife is supposed to tell you that James and Pyramid Head are two sides of the same coin. (Interestingly, the "Man" coin in the apartment puzzle also has a blade on the opposite side of it.)

@gameboyman7349Ай бұрын
Only came to the end to see if they did the final scene justice, they didn't. Why is the voice acting so bad? They had 20+ years and the passion of the lines came across far worse than the original.
@ShimanoGoro1Ай бұрын
The original went for extremely overly dramatic movements and line reads for the sake of making player uncomfortable, it only seems like “no passion” because instead now they are talking like real people but also keeping the same awkward feel. As far as the letter is concerned, The remake version is fine, but the OG could never be done again, it was literally a lucky once in a lifetime perfect take where the VA actually cried and got flustered reading the letter. Even the OG va wouldn’t be able to just do that again on a second go
@gameboyman7349Ай бұрын
@@ShimanoGoro1 _The original went for extremely overly dramatic movements and line reads for the sake of making player uncomfortable_ It is literally a scene where the emotionally disraught woman dying from terminal illness is writing her final goodbye to the man she became closest too in this world. The culmination of her entire traumatic experience, trying to to say goodbye and impart her thoughts knowing that James will only read this after she's gone and coming to terms with the fact she's even gone to begin with. The whole time juggling all these insanely difficult to navigate topics in writing, ultimately telling him in the sincerest way, through sadness, guilt and in no uncertain way that thank you, you made me happy, bringing closure to James and absolving him of much of the weight he's carrying. Not completely absolving him, but enough so that maybe he can maybe find the strength to move past this in a good way. Don't tell me it's overly dramatic, the new version sounds like a woman who had a bad fling with you and shared some ups and downs with you but it's time you separate and live your own lives. Get out with this "real people" nonsense. The situation demands emotion that matches the gravity of the scene. Not the callous indifference of whatever the hell "real people" seem to enjoy. It's not "fine", it's completely flat. People just praise anything that doesn't essentially completely fall flat on its face because standards and expectations are so low.
