Thanks to the entire Ableton team and the artists they bring in for the love and work they put into their DAW to inspire users. "Made in Ableton" is one of my favorites. A fresh breath of air in the world of production.

Your first statement was the most worthwhile: Ableton can't give you a great idea. Or even a good one. Enjoyed it, thanks.

i seriously enjoyed the cleverness in approach in this episode. There's so many different ways to do the similar things in ableton, each with their own pros and cons. Personally, removing the stop buttons was simple and enlightening

Never saw Abelton used like this as far as creating a melodic vibe using real chord progressions played by musicians!!!

Ok, that was awesome! More of this, please, Ableton! Building tracks from scratch in Session view is amazing but also tricky. This was super helpful.

Omg! Notice that poster of black m white sketches strange life forms in the background?? It’s by Ernst Haeckel….and I’m OBSESSED with his artwork of microorganisms and have the images all over my gear lol. I learned that he sketched them all while looking through an old school microscope in the 1800’s since no one had ever seen them before so he had nothing to go by but actual specimens. Aside from the beautiful symmetry and otherworldly weirdness of the things he was drawing, I’m so inspired by the commitment to discovering such difficult things to handle or even find, and then using his talents from studying art to painstakingly make it possible for the rest of the world to see them. I know it’s stupid off topic, but I can’t inspire anyone better in a comment than the video itself so I figured that little factoid was worth sharing since I got a but excited when I saw an amazing musician also had Haeckel’s drawings hung up as artwork.

Great video! I started off building tracks in session view like this when I first got into Ableton but stopped doing it because it just felt like painting by numbers or arranging post-it notes! Your method seems a bit more vibey so might try it again. Thanks.

Excellent video, great discussion of process, especially like the idea of arranging in session view. I would say though that Live is also great for generating ideas when you don’t have one

Capture mode makes up for Ableton being years late with comping. Capture mode as some dude in Sound on Sound said, is a genius idea, literally one that every musician who forgets things, can use. It's interesting, also, not all the ideas you thought "were great" but forgot, really were great - many sucked. But some are gems that without capture, you'd lose. **I guess guys like Bach never lost ideas; I mean for us mortals, lol.

I feel that actually Ableton has enough generative and algorithmic music generators that can actually give an initial idea that can be edited and work on
@warrenmusic3 жыл бұрын
He was speaking in hyperbole. Maybe closer to the truth is that you need the ears to recognize the idea, whether that’s before opening Live or generating in Live.
