@@castform7 I mean it all depends on the person. One is pure RNG of an opponent's moves, another is RNG of the affection mechanic. But a lot of people hate affection, so they'd agree with you. I think it's a little over-tuned in SwSh, at least, but otherwise I don't mind the mechanic.

I remember feeling the hype when my starter held on against Ultra Necrozma 3 times in a row. That was super hype indeed, but it was because it really mattered in a big way. In Brilliant Diamond, affection effects happened so often (and usually in fights with no stakes) they lost all value. Really depends on the context for me. And yeah, if you're wondering, the affection effect I saw ost often in BD was critical hits. Honchkrow gets 100% crit rate thanks to affection (Super Luck + Night Slash + Affection). It's bonkers, mostly because it just happens, no input required.

I'm just personally not a fan of when they mixed it with friendship from Let's Go Onward. I preferred the choice of whether or not I could get it's benefits through Amie and Refresh rather than it being something I have to interact with. That's just my opinion though.

The pure emotion that she had in that Red fight is something unparallelable. And her team was strong enough to take out an opponent 10-20 levels stronger than her own. I've always described Physical/Special to non-players as "Physical is direct contact, special is long range," and it doesn't really fully explain, but it's a good entrance. In that instance, at least for Gen VI and beyond, they can, for the most part, understand that something titled "Water Gun" would not make direct contact. To be honest, though, I've been playing Pokemon for twenty years now and I still haven't really memorized pre-split types outside of Ghost=Special lol

The way I remember Physical/Special split is through the Eeveelutions. While Fairy Type was introduced after the change, every other Eeveelution’s type was a “special” type

I think explaining the history of the pre- physical and special split only confuses new players. I grew up on it and didn't even know it existed. Lol. She's in HGSS gen 4 anyways so explaining the now "regular" split as is with no history lesson is more helpful imo. Same with new players in general.
