It's all hogwash based on half-baked conspiracy theories fuelled by online echo chambers, lurid tabloid headlines like 'Dog smelled death' (without revealing the entire context behind it, and lack of supporting forensic DNA evidence) and a simple gut reaction of 'I don't like the look of them cos they're cerebral middle class doctors, not like us'. Doesn't take into account they were advised to appear phlegmatic and not show overt displays of emotion on television, or that they're detached doctors who some can't identify with, but others very much can. it's all based on weird reverse snobbery and selective evidence. Those who claim to 'know' the parents did it are nothing more than scurrilous curtain-twitchers, they have no clue what happened that night any more than anyone else, and far less than those who have examined the totality of evidence. And when pushed on what the parents 'did' they vacillate between the most egregiously silly and outlandish theories that wouldn't even feel credible in the crappiest of Netlfix true crime dramas.

Here is something for you to think about: There were a total of 18 forensic samples that were tested for DNA. None of them gave a conclusive match to Madeleine's DNA. That on its own ought to throw a serious doubt into theories that Madeleine's body (alive or deceased) was in any significant and direct physical (skin to surface) contact with any of the surfaces where the UK scent dogs (Eddie and Keela) alerted. As for the dog alerts, please pay attention to the dog handler's conclusion, particularly about the possibility of cross contamination. Below is an extract from Martin Grime's report [in PJ files]. I hope that this helps you to understand the case better. ------------ "The dogs only alerted to property associated with the McCann family. The dog alert indications MUST be corroborated if to establish their findings as evidence. Therefore in this particular case, as no human remains were located, the only alert indications that may become corroborated are those that the CSI dog indicated by forensic laboratory analysis. My professional opinion as regards to the EVRD's alert indications is that it is suggestive that this is 'cadaver scent' contaminant. This does not however suggest a motive or suspect as cross contamination could be as a result of a number of given scenarios and in any event no evidential or intelligence reliability can be made from these alerts unless they can be confirmed with corroborating evidence." --------- The only object that in my opinion could have caused cross-contamination is the Cuddle Cat. It is quite possible that someone (Madeleine or one of her siblings) dropped the Cuddle Cat behind the sofa. This toy could also likely have cross-contaminated Kate's clothes and the master room.

It's my opinion that Mr Amaral allowed his suspicions to overtake objective and unbiased detective work. He doesn't seem to have appreciation for the possibility of cross-contamination.

What? Police ALWAYS question the parents after a child goes missing. Parents are always the first suspects in the absence of other obvious culprits, so in suspecting the McCanns weren’t they just doing their job? There was certainly evidence that the parents MIGHT have been involved (the changing stories of their group, for example), so of course the police had to investigate them. In what other cases have the police apologised for suspecting and questioning the parents after a child went missing? There was a media circus whipped up over this case immediately by the British press at the time (in a way that hasn’t always happened for other similar missing children), and very high profile British government figures immediately gave the McCanns their support and resources before anyone knew whether those parents were guilty or not, and the Portuguese police were up against all that from the start. This happening now seems extremely odd. I don’t understand why on Earth this would be done at such a late stage. Just my opinion.

@@catman4471 You know very well Amaral was working as part of a team and it was not just his conclusion that the McCanns were involved in their daughter's disappearance. People often try and discredit the police investigating crimes they're guilty of. The McCanns started doing that on the very night Madeleine was supposed to have been abducted. Instead of searching for their daughter they phoned the folks back home to tell them a made up story about Madeleine being abducted through jemmied shutters possibly by a paedophile and they also said the police were doing nothing to find her.

Yes, true, totality of evidence suggests an opportunist abductor. Likely Maddie walked into he road searching for her parents who had earlier told her where they were eating, and she was snatched, not dissimilar to the case of Roy Whiting/Sarah Payne. Profiles as a very similar case. If parents were guilty and there was sufficient forensic and circumstantial evidence to back it up beyond a reasonable doubt they would be in prison. What do the Portuguese police have to apologise for? The ex lead detective of the case won his legal case against the mccanns. The mccanns refused to have a polygraph test. A spokesman for the mccanns said that the family would not take a lie detecter test as they have nothing to hide. But surely if you have nothing to hide you would end the 20 years of speculation and take the test. Makes no sense. And the "suspect" although a degenerate is not involved in this case. This case is like the jon benét ramsey case in many aspects. Both girls died accidentally and both parents covered it up imo

Why did the Portpolice apologise? They were just doing there job and came to the correct conclusion. The fact the McCanns disagreed with that conclusion is irrelevant. According to Martin Kayes, a subject matter expert who worked on several television Mccann documentaries, this is untrue. "The BBC have got things very wrong in their new Panorama documentary. Our source in the Portuguese police (PJ) has told us what really happened earlier this year when the PJ sent a team to visit Madeleine’s parent." He later stated the following. "I can say now what this relates to: the Portuguese police did not apologise to Kate and Gerry as the BBC claim, their journalist must have read it in a magazine called Sábado as that’s where the incorrect claim appeared recently. The BBC didn’t fact-check it. The facts are that the PJ did send a team to brief the McCann’s, but in relation to the latest in the investigation and to let them know that the activity on the case is primarily being carried out by the German authorities at the moment. (The rest of the Panorama episode was just a rehashing the “evidence” from the newspapers that Mark and I found didn’t hold up to scrutiny when we investigated it 2 years ago).' I have tried to post a link to this but my comments containing links keep getting deleted.

I watched the Panorama program and it was just a character assassination job to paint Christian Brückner as the main behind her disappearance. This comes even though ex cop Mark Williams Thomas has said he believes it isn't him and that the cell phone technology doesn't add up. Second listen to Sonia Poulton and her video where she said they just pulled this guy out at the right time because of his criminal background. Yet the parents haven't taken polygraph tests, haven't been charged with child neglect, haven't really justified why they left their kids on their own. What parents go to a Foreign Country and leave their kids on their own?? Why they hired a PR person first before anything? The police always say start with the family first when ever a child goes missing and this is what the police on both sides failed to do!! I would also like a reimbursement of my taxes which are being wasted on this case year on year with nothing to show for it, yet nothing has gone to the family of Ben Needham who went missing in Greece some years ago I believe and his family have had little to no media coverage so something doesn't add up with this McCann case!!

Has Sandra Felgueiras, who once seemed to have common sense, completely lost her mind?? Who died in the McCanns' apartment if it wasn't Madeleine??? What person abducts a dead girl? Or, better question perhaps, What person kills a a little girl and then let her lie and leak substances of death for at least an hour and thereafter return to the place of the crime in order to kidnap a cadaver???? The answer is not Mr Scapegoat Brückner !!!!!!!!

I never did agree with their story of leaking meat in the boot (hence a scent) and the back door of the car being left open for quite a while. It wasn't only behind the sofa the dogs alerted to either. As reported it was in a cupboard in the room if true (reported in a documentary). People buy meat in bags duh. It doesn't leak in a car. I saw the documentary years ago and it did show the dogs honing in on the bottom of the cupboard in the earlier part of the police work. (I really hope it's not as it seems, naturally, ) and that Madeleine might turn up one day.
