Just an FYI to any high schoolers that have done badly on the ACT and want to go into nursing: that score doesn’t define you or your ability to become an amazing nurse!! I had a 4.0 in high school but a 19 ACT score (I have severe test anxiety hahah). I did very well in all my pre-nursing classes and my nursing school accepted me and granted me a scholarship only given to 3 incoming nursing school students. I just want to put this out there because I remember feeling as though I wasn’t good enough because of my ACT score; I hope those encourages anyone struggling with the same thoughts as well 💜💜

You said so many things in this video that really hit home, especially the part about not feeling like you're smart enough for nursing school. I entered a pre-nursing program at a university and had to change majors because I didn't do well enough in that program. Retaking the classes I did too poorly in wasn't a viable option because the school cost too much for me to not graduate in 4 years. A couple summers after graduating, I still hadn't really gotten anywhere with my degree, so I started going to my local community college for some one-year program and take their CNA course. In my summer class (2018), I learned the community college had LPN and ASN programs, and it was like the nursing world was calling out to me again. At first, I really didn't think I should even attempt it because of how poorly I had done in physiology (and sort of anatomy) at the university. Well, I decided to shoot for it after all, "retook" the first half of A&P in fall 2018, and got accepted into the ASN program for fall 2019. I've gotten A's and B's in all of my classes so far. No one can tell me God doesn't have a plan for me.

The number 1 thing I can say is that it’s okay to have a longer timeline for college than others! After switching from university to community college I was set back at least a year for when I graduate from nursing school and that’s okay! 4 years is not a lot of time to complete a whole degree program and to anyone who’s stressing over it, in the end you’ll have that degree and become an amazing nurse:)💞

@jenl_734 жыл бұрын
I was a very non-traditional student...and I definitely felt that pressure of "the timeline" and having to do everything by a certain time...well, I'm a testament to the fact that time legit does NOT matter! I think I took a total of 5 years out of high school to finish my prereq courses! There was quite a bit of retaking (cause initially I didn't take my classes seriously), there were bumps in the road...but honestly guys, I have people who are younger than me, around my age, or way older than me in my nursing school cohort...It truly doesn't matter if you're 20, if you're 30, or even 60 (yes, I have seen 50-60 year olds taking prereq's!), if nursing is truly what you want to do...GO for it! Also, take as little or as much time as you need (and that you can handle!) when completing your classes. Your prereq courses (especially science classes) are some of the most important courses to do well in...not just for grades but for comprehension. I cannot express enough how grateful I was to get a full grasp of my A&P right before nursing school started.... Do your best now! The hard work will all pay off when you get that acceptance letter! Trust me!

Yeah like I was looking at the pay difference and in the UK they pay nurses like $20,000 a year, while new grad nurses are paid $65,000 - 75,000 per year depending what state! Apparently they are upping the salary here in the United States to encourage more people to pursue nursing because of our nursing shortage!
@elio60374 жыл бұрын
@@laurenhills239 the UK starting salary for nurses is the equivalent to 32500 us dollars so yeah seems there's a big difference! There's definitely a lot of work to do in the UK on respect for the profession, which of course includes better pay!

ilona taylor-conway Yes, definitely advocate for better pay because that’s ridiculous. I feel like if the pay was that low in the United States you wouldn’t see a nurse in sight. I graduated in 2016 and planned on being a doctor of emergency medicine, so automatically enrolled in pre-med. Went to school for a while, then took leave for a bit (my brother passed away suddenly), and realized that I don’t want to be a doctor anymore. So now I am going to be going into nursing school here in the fall and am undecided as to whether I want to stop at RN BSN, or go on to be an NP. I always feel like I’m behind, because girls that I graduated with are graduating nursing school this year and I always feel like I should be too, but have to remind myself that I was on a different path and changed my mind, and that it’s okay and it’s never too late! I’m currently a CNA honestly love it. Can’t wait to keep moving up the ladder. ❤️

Wow, we graduated the same year! That’s so cool. I started college in the Fall of 2017 with a major of pre-nursing. I took Nursing while I was in high school at a tech school and graduated with a certificate in health science. Initially I was very excited about nursing but after I graduated, I was just so burnt out on school so when I started college, I didn’t take it seriously. Long story short, I failed all of my classes and had to drop out in May 2018. But after taking some time off and getting myself together. I realize how much I love nursing and how much I want to be a nurse. I’m planning on going back this Fall and retaking the classes I failed and hopefully getting accepted into the nursing program. I do often feel like a failure because I should be a junior in college, instead I’m still considered a freshman because I didn’t even make it one year but you have been such an inspiration to me and I love watching your videos. Although it may be nerve-wracking to starting a little later in my college career, I know that this is what I want to do! One good tip for anyone starting Pre-Nursing or entering any Nursing Program, make sure you have a good understanding of yourself, what you want out of this journey, and a support system you can lean on when things become unbearable. For those who are current high school OR college students wondering if they should take the plunge into Nursing School - DO IT! I view motivation as more of a feeling and feelings are unpredictable. Sometimes we are happy sometimes we are sad sometimes we have energy sometimes we don't. What you need is routine and to have stuff planned out. If you make doing work at a certain part of day a habit you will do it (like brushing your teeth). You shouldn't rely on motivation but on making things habits. That's how I stay 'motivated' and do work early and on time.

It’s funny to see how different school systems are all over the world. In the Netherlands there is no such thing as “pre-classes”. Here there are different levels in high school. We have vmbo(there are different levels within)-mavo-havo and vwo (low to high). There are 3 different levels in college/uni. Mbo (there are different levels within depending on your highschool level)-hbo-wo. If you graduate mavo you can go to mbo nursing school and become a level 4 nurse. And if you graduate havo you can go to hbo nursing school and become a level 5 nurse. Everyone who applies to the school will be admitted. I just graduated havo and will be starting level 5 nursing school at hbo in 2 weeks🤗🤗

i just recently went back to school to do my pre-reqs for nursing and i had a quick question! my counselor wants me to take intro to chem, and anatomy in one semester, then microbiology and physiology in another semester. since you’ve take these classes before, in your opinion, do you think this is doable? should i maybe revise my plan and take one science per semester with other g.e’s, or should i continue with just two sciences per semester, as he suggested? any and all info/opinions are appreciated :)
@roko310s4 жыл бұрын
I know this question was directed towards Madi, but I just wanted to give you my advice. I also went back to college to pursue nursing. I’m a mom of 3, so I also have home responsibilities. I decided to take about 3 courses per semester and only 1 science class each semester because science classes require more effort in my opinion. I didn’t want my gpa to suffer because of trying to balance too much. I ended up applying for my nursing program with a 4.0 in my prerequisites and have now completed my first year of nursing school with 1 more year to go. It took me longer to complete my prerequisites, but totally worth it and I don’t regret doing it this way. Hope this helps!
@charlietrue79014 жыл бұрын
At my university that’s the exact order we do them in. It’s extremely doable but it just depends on your lifestyle. It’s not that bad I just finished al of my pre reqs. You just gotta push through and it’ll be worth it in the end. :).
@marisolponce43984 жыл бұрын
Hi Lilly, I definitely agree with the previous answer! It all depends on how much time you can dedicate for those classes. Personally, I was working and going to school full time so taking only 1 science course per semester was enough. I would recommend taking 1 science course and 2 or 3 general eds ( this is what I did and was able to complete prereqs in 2 years). In my community college you have to complete chem and anatomy first in order to take physio, and then complete physio in order to take micro. You really want to focus 100% in these courses because they can make or break your GPA. Also keep in mind that many nursing programs are taking the first grade you get in science courses into consideration ( at least that's how it is in southern CA). Wish you the best and good luck!!
@Lillyboo2634 жыл бұрын
roko310s thank you for the input!! i love to hear everyone’s experience :) i was working but i’m in a position where i can focus on school full time so i want to schedule courses based on my ability and open time. originally my counselors suggested taking two sciences per semester since i was working part time, so maybe it will be different now! good luck in nursing school!! it’s so great to see people achieving their goals!
@Lillyboo2634 жыл бұрын

Do you have any tips on Statistics? I’m taking it this summer and I’m beyond nervous!

Hearing you say statistics was your hardest class worries me. I am taking behavioral statistics online this summer. Hopefully it’s not too bad! 😬 love your videos btw! 💜

I’m taking Statistics this fall and I’m sooo nervous!! 😅Everyone keeps saying it’s hard 😭😭!
@NancyGaspar4 жыл бұрын
It's so annoying😭 I'm taking stats this term, just took my midterm. Def make sure you take lots of notes and do the annoying practice problems at the end of the sections.
