Oh yes, I watched the documentary and absolutely fell in love with the way Buck works with these horses and how he is as a man. The documentary was the best thing i've ever seen. You need to watch it! It's called, 'Buck' lol

Lucky people and more importantly, lucky horses to have such a wonderful trainer that has studied under some of America's Master Horsemen. Buck, you are very special.

To a certain, very superficial level, yes this is positive reinforcement. The reward is the release. But, you have got to have a real feel for a horse to give release at the right time, you have to be able to read a horse and understand how horses speak to one another. At that, nobody is better than Buck. As far as positive reinforcement goes, it is basic psychology and you will find it everywhere, so yes, on a superficial level it is also present here, but there is also much more going on.

The horse is not being punished, just desensitized to learn it doesn't need to be afraid of these things so it can be safe to ride and handle. My horse was trained by a trainer who attends Buck clinics and she took my horse to the local clinic. My horse was very reactive and fearful when she went into training and came back a very confident and calm horse. This is not learned helplessness at all - how do you figure learned helplessness?

How true, thank you buck.

You clearly know nothing about this man. Horses are not dogs. It is that simple. You can apply certain aspects of their training to them, but they still two very different creatures.

For those who know about the quadrants I mean positive punishment, and for that matter add in negative reinforcement.

Their other videos are great to MyLovleyWinnie. You should watch them. Best training in a long time! Even John Lyons gave them a thumbs up! Any one that knows horses knows how great he is. True pro's!

striking an animal makes him fearful, not respectful. I like Buck but some of his methods can be less severe than that. The horse wants to know who is in charge, body language tells both the human and horse or other animal who leads.

You shouldn't talk about yourself that way! You wouldn't know good training if it was right in front of you! Dogs, horses? What else are you a professional on?!

Bull. You don't need punishment to train an animal. Dog, cat, horse, or human, we all learn the same way. Bribery doesn't work well on any animal, but positive reinforcement does. All he's doing is putting this horse into a state of learned helplessness. I don't like it.

Dogert66 Then never ever buy a horse or be around one. You'll get hurt first and then blame the horse because you have no idea how a horse learns or acts.

Who cares about votes? I don't dance to others tunes, especially yours. Obviously you crave them because you feel insecure. I don't bother to even look at them. Grow up girly & get a life. It's not all about you!
