The original version of this is by Sir Lancelot. Called 'Shame and Sorrow" it was written for the film noir "I Walked With A Zombie and Sir Lancelot appears in two separate scenes singing the song.

I grew up listening to the 'authentic' calypso version. I enjoy both versions, just as I love the Kinks' original version of 'Lola', but still enjoy Madness' cover version. I suppose it's because they're not purporting to improve either, but just seem to be playing them for the joy of it.

I like the video. I just don't exactly see why people are upset. Actually its the only Madness song I do like. I realize its a cover, and I know its roots are in Calypso. I have no idea what dangerman sessions are. I like seeing beautiful dancers more then I like seeing aging Englishmen.

Nah, this was from their covers album 'The Dangermen Sessions Vol.1' in 2005. The latest release from them was Sorry. I think 'nw5' is out soon, new album out next year as well.

I agree with totally. Being the same age I can fully relate to what you think of the rubbish that the Noughties have produced. Madness is one of the greatest bands of all time, and not exactly their greatest song, I'm not too keen on the not-so-rando video, but like you said, better than anything released in the past decade.
