I think he’s referring to the huge amount of plastic surgery she’s had recently. You can’t deny she looks very strange now, and it’s surprising she went down that path because she was always so grounded in the old days. But like you say, if it makes her happy - then fine.

RIP Nick Kamen. Never heard how they met and worked together before. This is a interesting interview. I miss this Madonna. This is the Madonna I grew up with. I remember seeing Shanghai Surprise at the movies as a teen. I remember when Who's That Girl was called Slammer. She's very open here. Who's That Girl World Tour was the first concert I ever saw at 14. Also interesting she is talking about Evita 10 years before she made it.

I miss this Madonna . How could I not say that . This is how I grew up . I would buy record every video , get all the cassettes . It’s a good memory , she kept me alive when things weren’t good . These days I find her more creative and relax . Also the interviews are so short and she only talks about her music or what she is selling . These interviews have such a variation of questions and she talks about the personal and professional life .

She’s really offering up her whole biography here, I think more than any interviewer that I’ve heard before. I used to tape her UK radio and tv interviews in the mid 90s, but I don’t remember her voice sounding this bright and fun. She got so much criticism for Body of Evidence movie, SEX book, Justify My Love video, simulating masturbation on stage during Blond Ambition… for a long time after she always had to defend herself as an artist and her right to freedom of artistic expression, owning her sexuality as a woman … That she wasn’t trying to be controversial for the sake of it or use cheap shock tactics for attention. She had to put her metaphorical boxing gloves on, because the media had been so critical of her csreer

Amazing to hear this again after so many years. Her comments towards the end about not wanting to do Evita as a sung-through musical were never aired as part of the original Radio One broadcast but are really interesting given that is what she eventually did 10 years later ... PS: The interviewer is actually Simon Bates (not Simon Mayo).

@@luanhylario5882 MADONNA IS THE LEGEND! Going to NY with nothing and now a Billionaire makes her pretty much the american dream and she's on par with Michael Jackson, Prince & Whitney Houston nothing beats that! Gaga is ultra talented but I remember how Madonna has done it and Lady GaGa doesn't come close to it. Not even KZbin can portray how Madonna rocked the world. In my opinion Madonna & GaGa should''ve done a duett like Telephone or something in 2010.... That time has come and gone.

Evita was a hit on Broadway around the time Madonna was becoming famous which is when adaptation of Evita to a movie started. She was always part of the many incarnations of this project whether she was trying to get casted or casted once before but it never happened. Until, Alan Parker got involved with the production and the script was rewritten once again to a complete musical with no dialog is when the movie was finally made with Parker casting Madonna after receiving her 6 page handwritten letter explaining why she was meant to play this part.

THANK you for this interview. Even after all these years, people underestimate her intelligence (and of course there is inherent sexism in the industry, still - I mean Madonna gets a hell of a lot more flak than say, Mick Jagger). The other thing I love that the interviewer (and it is Simon Bates) is respectful, genuinely interested in her, has no other "agenda", and lets her talk. Too many interviewers aren't interested in the person they are interviewing.
