The backstory on Streisand was that she was also overlooked for an Oscar nomination for the movie “The Mirror has 2 Faces” which she directed and starred in - but she declined to sing the movie’s song “I finally found someone” and instead asked Natalie Cole to sing it. Natalie got sick last minute so Celine Dion stepped in last minute to sing it but Barbara was notoriously in the bathroom during the performance. When Billy Crystal introduced Celine, he thanked her for stepping in last minute. So the introduction to Madonna as a “class act” , followed by the camera panning to Streisand was not about Madonna but Billy throwing some shade at Barbara - who clearly got the point.

I went to the LA premier of EVITA and I met Madonna. I was 17 at the time. Also the song You Must Love Me won best song at the Oscar’s Don’t Cry For me was not nominated because it’s from the original stage production of the play. The Alan Parker film had a You Must Love Me which was made for the film. Madonna won best actress at the Golden Globes and her winning should have been in this pack of videos.

The balcony scene lasted for three consecutive nights, and during the bus scene, I was there too she sings "Hello Buenos Aires" the old city was recreated in a large park in Buenos Aires Madonna was really nice She wasn’t a bitch at all maybe because she was pregnant lol

Totally agree….“Lament” from the Re-Invention Tour and “You Must Love Me / Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from the Sticky & Sweet Tour are not only essential live performances of songs from Evita, they rank among the best live performances of Madonna’s entire career….

You Must Love was actually the only song composed specifically for the movie version of the musical, so it could get an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. It got the nomination and that's why Madonna performed it at the Oscars. Don't Cry was the big hit though.

The story will the Guilty by Association cover is that a stalker called Robert Hoskins broke into her L.A. garden. He was arrested and the case went to court. M was served a summons to appear as a witness. She said that she would not attend court because that would just give him what he wanted. To be in the same room as her. The judge said that if she didn't attend court then she would be arrested. She appeared as a witness and because she was so upset afterwards her sister Melanie said that she was to come to her house. Joe Henry told her the song he was covering just reflected what she had been through. While she was still reeling from her court appearance he put her in the studio and recorded her. ❤❤

Her accepting that Billboard award, just wow. It is in my opinion one of the most moving award acceptance speeches she has made. The audience was in tears and so am I, so am I I’m telling you. That recap at the beginning I’m sure brought so much memories, her music has been such a big part of so many people’s lives that no wonder they had tears in their eyes. I consider her and her music as part of my history, part of me growing up. And I guess that is the case with a lot of people who were in that audience that night. So emotional and on point. And, when you had tears in your eyes, that was it. Cried like a baby here.

I was born a few months after the musical w Madonna debuted in theaters so my parents named me after it, but I still somehow have never seen it. A bit ago I listened to a few songs from the soundtrack and it was unexpectedly SO emotionally moving, I went from a totally normal mood to bawling my eyes. NO GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS??? RYYYYAAAAN!! Every time! 🤣 The film won three Golden Globes, including Best Picture (Musical/Comedy), Best Actress, and Best Song. As others have already mentioned, Billy was saying that Madonna herself was snubbed for Best Actress at the Oscars. The film itself was nominated for Best Song, Editing, Cinematography, Sound, and Art Direction. Not too shabby, but M definitely deserved a nomination. She probably would have gotten one today, but they were much more conservative back then. The film was a moderate success at the box office, so I think she and the studio were pretty happy. It was a tough sell in 1996, but it revived her acting career... of course, she squandered that with terrible film choices and then quit acting altogether. Chicago was going to happen with M as Roxie but it fell through. Womp, womp.

Joe Henry is still her brother in law. He’s married to her sister Melanie. They worked together again in the song “Don’t Tell Me” from the Music album and the song “Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You” from the Hard Candy. Joe & Melanie have a some together named Levon. Levon is also a folk musician. You did a reaction video to an interview during the Something to Remember era where she talks about escaping to her sisters house and watching dinosaur movies with her sisters son. Levon Henry is who she was talking about.

You must love me won Oscar for best song. The evita soundtrack sold 7 million albums worldwide. Don’t cry for me Argentina peaked at no.8 in the USA and no.9 in Australia mostly due to the Miami mix which was played on the radio. You must love me peaked at no.18 in the USA and no.11 in Australia

the Miami mix version of don't cry for me Argentina is the version that is mostly responsible for the songs chart success. it blew up at radio and at the time it was such a fresh and weird sound, show tunes, mixed with latin and then club music it was a three way hit. lol (Patti Lupone god love her was prob steaming at how good Madonna was as Evita, singing and all. Yes i Said it. I've seen Evita 8 times in a Theatre and countless times since. I still to this day love that movie.
