The best remix memory I have is a club in Columbus that every year has a Madonna night for her b day. It’s only Madonna played all evening and it’s original and remixes. Can you imagine ? Peoples asses are on the floor all night

Some T: There was a falling out between M and Junior shortly after the Bedtime Stories era. He sampled a private VM she left him in a club track called If Madonna Calls and released it commercially without her knowledge. This didn't sit well with Madonna and hasn't spoken to him since. It's availablele on all streaming services and worth a listen.

I love this! I only heard it a couple of years ago for the first time, i was too young then but i love both original and remix just the same. They turned R&B into a hot house song but still funky. I love the Remix Video too as it features some unseen footage from the original video shoot. Madonna looks swag walking down the street singing the song. Love the NYC vibe of the video.

This was always one of my top five favorite Madonna remixes, along with his remix of Deeper and Deeper. Also later loved her remixes of “Nothing Really Matters” and some of the stuff from the Ray of Light album like “Sky His Heaven”. My all time favorite remix though has to be the Shep Pettibone remix of “Beautiful Stranger” from 1999 😍

i mean i love madonna, i would buy her cd maxi singles day one. i'd be there with my saved up allowance shaking at the record store gates. i still have them too. i have four different "secret" singles even. one with a bonus track "let down your guard", which _i_ think is a fire bop. but i've got to say it... mariah carey... a mariah carey cd maxi single is next level. they didn't have to speed up her vocals because she re-sang the whole song in the style of the remix. a mariah carey cd maxi was like a mini album of it's own.

I think DJ Junior died just recently, while on a date in Texas during his Celebration Tour she said that she recorded the record in a forest with Dallas Austin and fell in love with him, but he didn't pick up on the signs

I feel that of all the artists back in the day, Madonna broke the mold on basic 12" vinyl extended versions. Aside from a dub version or dub beats, accapella & instrumental, Madonna singles started becoming more like mini lp's by providing numerous mixes to fit various music styles/genres. Almost each genre mix contained sprinkles of yet another genre so that it could be utilized in the clubs for blending/mixing using the vinyl. No offense, but none of this digital-ware being used at the club. Only hands/fingers for scratching, reversing, looping, clicking/switching knobs etc. were used. That is also why Dj promos & promos in general were and are so sought after in collecting. It's those non-commercially available musical gems that are the diamonds in the rough. Sure nowadays with social media & streaming services, some of these may be available to listen to, even download, but not all. To own it, to have that hard copy, those are the diamonds & gold of the treasure hunt, even if it's an old track. Don't get me started on the marketing/packaging of these promos. They can vary from plain sleeve to commercial quality packaging. Here's another thing, not all commercially released or promo hard copies in every country had the same mixes on them either, furthermore, not all mixes were on the vinyl, some were available only on CD or CD single or a 45 RPM B-side and this goes for all countries. So the let the treasure hunting continue.Thanks for the deep dive Empress & remember, no social media back then. Every mix made for and approved by the record company is important, not a throw away, whether commercially available or on a Dj promo only. Thanks for everything E.

Junior’s Luscious Remix with the piano intro is gorge. I remember hearing it for the first time, thinking it was a whole new ballad remix, then it dropped into the dance beat. Also it has the clearer added vocals at the end that you mentioned. Brilliant remix. 💙

While Junior is not my favorite remixer/producer, he certainly gave a whole new life to this track. The techy stuff is interesting because it shows how much thought and work goes into the process. And absolute kudos to Madonna for having the smarts to authorize remixes to her originals (no bootlegs), essentially creating different moods (and genres) to the source material as a way to widen her appeal and marketing influence. Girl is smart!
