I agree with all your points about this figure. I grew up on this version of Cyclops and am happy to have this figure, but the lack of a capped head and the paint applications do hold it back from being an all time favorite. I agree that an ML update on the Vulcan buck would be amazing, as I really like the VHS Cyke over the Mafex Jim Lee version. An X-Factor 5 pack would have my preorder day 1.

This figure looks like a cross between the first X-Factor cyclops (with the mask and cuffed boots and gloves) and the more recognizable Whilce Portacio era X-Factor Cyclops (which is this, but in yellow instead of the white accents). I think Cyclops had this exact same look in between the first costume and the yellow "X" look of end of this X-Factor team's run.

I feel u on the paint and I kinda knew going in based on the suit design and line work that it would be some fuzzy spots. But I'm with you I loving this figure and having a great time posing him around. My new favorite Cyclops.

We’re in an inflation period so you damn sure can’t expect to pay 50-60 bucks for a figure with all this articulation. Not to mention that for about 2 years Mafex has been around $95-105 for their more basic comic figures. I definitely agree with you on the cowled head, would’ve taken the figure over the top. And yea the legs are a bit smooth & loose on mine as well. Also wished he could kick higher but I guess since he isn’t a Spider-Man or even Gambit level acrobat they skimped out on the leg movement. All in all I’m really happy with this guy (X-Force Deadpool may be figure of the year so far though). Can’t wait for Nightwing this weekend. Great review man! Keep ‘em coming

This was the best X-Factor costume. Need those swashbuckler boots and gloves though. The full mask is required. I agree with your review.

You'd think they would've gone with his (X-Men #39) iconic no hair showing, blue & yellow costumed look...or the big yellow x X-Factor costume. Or at the least they could've thrown in a no-hair masked head to half-ass create his second X-Factor look.

They are already skimping on the paint i believe. I paid 48 for him and I see a lot of blue coming through the white, everywhere! I still think he's fine for that price but OMG, there is blue everywhere, even through the palms of the open hands. One thing I can't do is pop the lens off any of the heads to put the smoking look in. I've seen images that it should pop off but it's too tight and i feel like his face will scratched if i have to work that hard. any tips!? great review!!!

The latter half of the X-factor series Cyke gets the cowl-less mask. This costume looks bang on to Uncanny 273 when the X-Men, X-Factor and X-Force are all back in the Mansion. Of course, for the most part, in X-Factor proper his costume was Blue/Gold not Blue/White. Still, I like the variance. Nobody has made this latter-style figure before. Also, by the point in the comics this costume shows up it is either Jim Lee or Whilce Portacio doing the artwork, both of which go on to draw the Blue and Gold team books shortly thereafter. This is technically Lee-era Cyke. You're the only reviewer who hasn't confused that blue wash for paint bleed.

I think this version is an improvement over the original Mafex release. The articulation is better and the head sculpts are far superior.

I am surprised Mafex didn't do their homework with this design. Missing the full head cover, missing the glove and boot cuffs are a miss for this design. Cyclops is my ALL TIME favorite character so I super want this figure but it doesn't make sense as I already have the Hasbro one and this Mafex one is not comic accurate.

Well executed figure. It's just not a very popular version of Cyclops. The one thing that bothers me while owning this Cyclops is the choices made with the head sculpts. I don't like that the fully masked version is the most neutral. While the back of the mask down, and mask completely off with his casual glasses have a progressively angrier face. Just makes it awkward for me when I want the angry face and optic blast going at the same time, understanding that it can't be done with this figure.

The suit might be a weird suit choice to some but I think it shows they’re planning long term. X-Factor has the first appearance of Apocalypse. And yeah, I think they’re gonna do him eventually.

Just from seeing the comparison.. i feel like the ML counterpart is better in terms of the look even though it's bucky cap mold 😂 i like the metalic blue on ML one a little better too. But for sure, mafex looks way better when posed up!!!

It definetly is overprized, for that money it should not have any the flaws it has, is way too expensive for an action figure of that quality. But!! It is the perfect figure for my next custom Samus from Metroid 😉

Kind of a half effort. Definitely should’ve given him the cowl (or stocking cap as you call it lol) Is this a 100 percent repaint of the jim lee scott? Or does it have a new torso/ if they did ANY new molding they should’ve given him a cowled head.(and boots)

They didn't give him the cowl, because this is based on his 3rd X-Factor costume in which he does not wear one. Very odd choice to go with since this look was barely in the comics. You can find this costume in this book, Uncanny X-Men #272 (1990).

Unless you're like a major, and I mean _major_ Cyclops fan (like you are), I don't see why anyone would get this. It's just so damn plain and not well known/iconic in the slightest. It doesn't deserve a precious slot in a line that's close to a hundred dollars, with only a handful of releases a year. Like you said, like we all said, if it just came with a damn head without the hair showing, you could half-ass make it into his 2nd X-Factor costume. Yeah, this shit makes _zero_ sense, even less sense than AoA Magneto.

Yeah, this costume kind of a random choice. Unlike X-Force, I don't think it can be assumed that Mafex are gonna do more figures, and it's not like this Cyclops fits into other displays or anything. But if they announced some more X-Factor figures, people would definitely be more eagre to pick this guy up. Sloppy paint is disappointing to hear, but it doesn't seem *as* bad as some other Mafex figures. My X-Force Wolverine had *terrible* paint and bent claws, which he shouldn't for his price. Hopefully the sloppiness isn't a sign that Mafex QC is going back to how awful it used to sometimes be.

Might be luck of the draw. My X-Force Wolverine does not have those issues. My X-Factor Cyclops does have the smudgy paint where the blue meets the white like in this review. Like you said for the price the QC should be better. I got Nightwing and X-Force Deadpool as well, and both of those look perfect.
