Nice change, to fill the holes just grab some blue gasket maker and put in the hole, looks like the right shade of blue to match the panel. Otherwise get some acrylic art paint to match and mix up some white wall filler with it and patch the hole, and put a top coat on when dry.

Not a bad idea. I might be getting some leaf switch joysticks so I'll still need those holes if I do.

@@ToddFun I have both a 8 way Happs Controls optical joystick (smooth as can be!) and a NOS 4way leaf switch on player 1. It's a great combo of old + new tech. I also have 2 leaf switch buttons (in parallel) with modern cherry switches , they make playing moon patrol and Joust SO much more enjoyable.

why would they not use the ALMOST universal mounting holes pattern? I am not wanting to drill 4 more holes in my metal control panel and have 4 ugly blank holes there

Have you tried the IL Eurojoystick? 8-way, but the square actuator helps with travel time. Never tried that with levered switches though...

Hi, I was wondering if you might be able to point me in the right direction. I have an 8 way controller and diagonals in 2 corners are not working. My controller has 2 wires that go to each switch and I've wired them the same all around. Both of my controllers are doing the exact same thing.

Make sure the common wire is going to the same exact terminal on each switch. If the 4 way is working then all 4 switches are OK so try switching the wires from two working diagonal switches to two non working diagonal switches to make sure the handle throw is working in that direction. If it doesn't work then the handle throw is not fully engaging the two switches for that diagonal direction. If it does work then you have some kind of electronic problem with the controller or software.

Rather than pull the stick out of the actual assembly why not just unscrew the top and stick it through assembled It seems like you created a lot of extra work on something that was already properly assembled. To do this correctly all you had to do was take a bit of foam or cloth wrap it around the shaft of the joystick attach a vise grip and do the same with the back top and unscrew it. I promise you that assembly worked perfectly prior to you disassembling it and didn't need additional finishing or machining prior to your misassembly.

That's the recommended way to fit it. Crazy I know, but I don't think you CAN remove the joystick handle on these sticks? I'm thinking of getting one and was told you can't change the joystick ball, which suggests it isn't removable? (Hence the need for stick disassembly to get it through the hole)

No, not really. I still like the easy switch over from 4 way to 8 way but really I'm thinking of installing a permanent 4 way that I think might be better response. This one still missing left moves a lot and is not as smooth as it needs to be really. I have purchased an original Ms Pac-Man joystick assembly and will finish servicing it and build a switch out control panel for all my 4 way games that I play the most. (OR) I do have this nice micro switch 8 way / 4 way joystike. amzn.to/2MuzFI5 I like the movement and response but you have to lift the panel and fight to switch from 4 to 8 so I would just leave it at 4 or put in 2 wired in parallel leaving one 4 way and the second 8 way.

I have never opened my bartop arcade I want to install both sticks ultimate mag stick but concerned I ll mess it up and wont be able to get it working and ruin it

What is the size of the microswitch connectors? .110 or .187 or another ?

Yeah he is probably referencing the Suzzo Happ Mrs Pacman($20) or Pacman Super($90) both are 4 way and are literally the arcade stick, you can kind of cheap out and get the Happ Super for $11, What you had looks like they put the Happ Ultimate Stick(round actuator) or some off brand variant either way most find them terrible to use, they are made more for fighting games for arcade cabs or tournament play for precision movement, but no one likes them really that I know of they use the IL Eurostick(original 80's Happ Competition) or the actual Happ Competitions that are now pretty decent they went through this phase where they used some kind of rubber actuator and it was terrible about 3-4 years ago they redid the line and changed it back to a plastic based actuator. Either way they are more for Marvel versus Capcom or Mortal Kombat machines that had those sticks stock.

Stiffer than a commercial leaf style joystick but for a mic-switch it's normal.

Normally there is a black wire that is common so take each wire with the game on and touch each wire to the common and see what direction the character moves and then mark that wire. Repeat until each direction wire is marked. Then hook up the joystick noting your labels.

I suggest UltraStik 360 ultimarc to get more real 4 ways and 8 way feeling when playing. Mag-Stik Plus is too stiff and clicky in my opinion.

This is exactly why I'm here. My mag sticks are extremely clunky, and too "clicky". Very hard to get precise movement, so looking for alternatives.

Not sure. I guess I didn't think that wold be too interesting at the time. Also, I'm in a new location and don't have my old sweet lab, bench and photography gear so it is quite difficult right now to do table top shoots but I have done some, however, the lighting is so poor and it really hurts the quality of what I would like to show in such teardown videos.

Can I i install this on a qanba obsidian?

Unlikely, although there are adapter plates, I believe the Qanba is designed for Sanwa/Japanese style sticks. Even with an adapter plate, the joystick opening maybe too small for an American style stick.
