canonical will tell search engines which is the actual page and help avoid duplicate content. in some cases, you also want to 301 redirect but will really depend on your use case. can you share more about your site?

My client website is set to 302 instead of 301 redirect. Is this a bad thing? prntscr.com/l65mc7 If I will change this to 301, would it not break anything in the site?

301, 302 settings are not necessarily a bad thing. It is related to your SEO efforts and strategy. In short, you probably want 301 but if you are not sure, you should consult an SEO professional on this for your specific case. As far as breaking you want to test every function on a test site first but generally there is no reason that it would break.
