Maggie Rogers gives a heartfelt speech prior to performing her hit song “Alaska” and thanks the crowd for her success. During the monologue at the Moody Theater in Austin TX, she gets disrespected by a few from the crowd to the point where it nearly becomes too uncomfortable to continue.

I think she acted alright. It’s not about “don’t take yourself so seriously”(like some people are saying in the comments), she was disrespected once, she tried to move on (even said she was uncomfortable) and was going to sing something emotional. Maggie was ready to move on with the music. But people keep on talking about her body and her looks and everybody was talking at the same time when all she wanted was to show her music. Maggie was probably overwhelmed and uncomfortable at that point, I would to. Having a crow of people looking at you, screaming at you and watching your every move, while you feel disrespected, that’s probably not easy. Just try to put yourself in other’s people shoes sometimes. We’re all human

We are in a state in this country of disrespect and a lack of civility. When we behave in this manner, it shows ignorance and a lack of responsibility to what we say and who we say it. If we want to show other countries how crass and disrespectful we can be to our people, then keep behaving this way, and you will succeed. I have been in this young woman's place as a professional singer in a band and a stand-up comedian performing in similar venues. She was overwhelmed by the outburst and was not prepared for a come back from this audience. Unless you have been there and done that your comments have no merit or credibility. Damn. I just had such a visceral response to that. Big ups to her for staying and continuing to talk to the crowd before performing. Sure, audiences have done worse - much worse, in some cases - but that wasn’t cool. She handled it gracefully, respectfully, and with a measure I know I’m too hot headed to maintain in that kind of situation. I hope her words reached as many of the audience members as they needed to - and perhaps the viewers watching it happen afterwards.

Who tf "solicits" compliments in the first place? Only a complete narcissist. Thats usually how compliments come (unsolicited). Us normal people dont get upset when someone compliments us or even makes sexual jokes around us. Thats life, you cant control what others say and do. Get over it.. If shes that thin skinned, she should go sing in nursing homes or in the mirror of her bathroom. Shes not ready for the major league if she cant handle unsolicited compliments or a couple drunk hecklers. Youre not even ready for adult life if words or someone elses opinion gets u all bent out of shape IMO.
