Thank you for this video! I've been teaching with VIPKId for about 3 years and I have over 5000 classes under my belt. I've been looking into other companies to supplement days where I have holes in my schedule and magic ears pay seems great. My only concern is that my BA degree is in Economics. I do have a TEFL certificate that I received while in school. I decided to be a ESL teacher during my last year of college so couldn't change my degree at that time. Do you think I can still get the platinum pay base rate?

Just got hired with Magic Ears! It was honestly the weirdest demo interview I’ve ever had - I really prepared for it having heard that they often fail people and expected to teach for at least 10 min but nope! It lasted about 5 min, only about 2 min of which was teaching. The interviewer was dressed very casually and appeared to be ill. So that gave me the impression that it was a very relaxed company but then I got the onboarding/orientation package and it says I can be penalized for accidentally yawning! ME is not going to be my main company but I’m still going to give it a try...just not quite sure what to expect at this point!

Yes, some of the policies are a bit odd...yawning is one of them...Don't stress about those thins to much. Just try em out and see if you like working there.

It's a range. They offer up to $26/hour which is attainable at the top of the pay and bonuses. Its more likely to get around $20-22 though.

So, I have several questions here: 1: The attendance bonus is not linked to the peak hours, it is for any class that you teach and if you do it with the above conditions you get the 1USD? 2. IF you do standby how does it work - they call you and ask you" can you teach this please"? And in that situation can you say "no" or are you required to teach it? 3. HOw is the seniority (Sophomore, JR, SR...) determined on - # of hours taught? 4.And once you reach Sr is it for that contract only - meaing in the new one you start from the bottom again?

Hello! #1) Correct, the attendance bonus is just for showing up to all your classes. #2) Standby is your choice. You will see it on the schedule as a standby slot and you can book it and then there are procedures you have to follow by checking in before the class (there is a standby protocol booklet). #3) rankings are based on classes taught, and you will discuss this with your contact at Magic Ears. Once you are a Senior, you don't go back down, no, you stay there.

Yes it is true. Magic Ears and VIPKid are still going but no new classes can be sold to Chinese parents with foreign teachers so the industry with companies in China is on its last days. Go independent and get your own students!

I tried applying for an online position and they said they could not take me because I live in Cambodia despite the fact I am an American citizen and have a US bank account and mailing address. I am more or less looking for a position to hold me over until I can return to China to teach inclass. Afterwards I would likely use this type of job so i can pay off credit cards so i do not need to transfer money from China to the USA which is a pain in the butt.

Its not because you live in Cambodia. I taught for Magic Ears in Malaysia and now I live in Thailand - Magic ears teachers live all over the world. You have to have a US passport, and have a neutral north american accent - do you have that? Also, what part did you fail? The application itself or the demo?

@@onlineteacherdude1284 pai do have difficulty wanting to commit a certain amount of time to them because i do not know know when i will be able to work in china again. Let say I am able to go there the month after i signed the contract with them. I am obviously not going to say no to the school in China which will result in me being able to improve my Chinese which is one of my reasons for wanting to teach in China. I am aware that if i learned to speak Chinese fluently i can demand higher wages from US companies.

Hi Renae! So, yes, it's definitely possible - but it takes times to build up and rank up which then gets you more bookings. You might also want to try applying to VIPKid and Gogokid to fill in any gaps. The links are in the video to apply. Let me know if you have any more questions. Tim

I dont have a company in mind that pays well outside of China. Chinese ESL companies are all closing their doors to the new regulations. Outschool or private tutoring would be the way to go right now.

ESL Platforms are crashing in China due to the new regulations in China forbidding foreign teachers teaching Chinese students. Look for companies not based in China...I suggest Cambly for you (link in video description)

No, you must have a bachelors degree for the companies out of China like this one and the others. Its law in China and a requirement by the companies. You could try Cambly if you don't have a degree.

Well, I don't have a degree. Currently pursuing one, but I'm in my first year. I got in ME, but my pay is really low. 7.50 is my base pay. I'm sticking it out since I'm in a country where my visa is expired and it's not a bad gig to do while I wait for it get approved. Anyway, my point is you can still get hired even when you're not in your last year.

Yes, Magic Ears offers base pay raises in exchange for "carrots" that you earn for teaching.
