This "documentary" was extremely disappointing. The producers spent far too much time yacking it up about the disease that ended Magics career... They didn't even think to cover the 1988 season where the L.A. Lakers became the first NBA team in 19 seasons to win back to back championships. That final series against the Detroit Pistons was some of the best basketball I have ever seen in my life... But the producers decided it was far more important to keep talking up the HIV thing over actually celebrating the fact that Magic did a lot more on the court then they showed in this biography. For example... Magic's Lakers teams made 8 Championship Finals appearances in the 1980's and they WON 5 TIMES out of 8. The politics of ESPN sucks. Hitting people over the head at the outset of this production with the AIDS thing was classless then returning to the same subject in the end was doubly classless. HIV never defined Magic Johnson's basketball career... But judging by the way that ESPN manipulated his story in this presentation it sure looks like that's how ESPN is trying to make their viewers think about Magic in the end. ESPN is full of crap. The ESPN producers are full of crap. This Bio was crap. :-I
@alcondragon5 жыл бұрын
You could not be more wrong. ESPN as much a piece of garbage as they are, Magic Johnson (who between him and Bird) Brought the NBA Out of almost complete and total failure and destruction, was seen as a Basic infallible superstar, living legend and basketball God!. Everyone knew of Magic and what he stood for, or so it seemed. It wasn't done to vilify him, is was shown that as Great a Basketball Player that Magic is and was, his persona as a Nice guy came to be overshadowed not just by his lies and disguising behavior off the court but the very fear that he placed within the NBA and all of its players that now had to focus on if their lives could be in danger just by any physical contact in a game with Johnson. If you were alive and watching at this time, it was solid news for over 2 years, and it caused severe problems at the Olympics as well.... Johnson after the public found out about his real lifestyle and his NBA players were scared to death. And Johnson tried to just act like it was nothing at the time. It caused total chaos and turned off lots of people. He almost completely ruined any hopes of ending his career gracefully and happily. Thats why ESPN did what they did, they told the truth, nothing more
@deano.75335 жыл бұрын
@@alcondragon --- The NBA players that complained about Magic playing against them were the players that were on teams that went head to head with The Lakers on the regular in the playoffs. He scared the crap out of them (basketball wise) and they took the opportunity to complain because they knew they couldn't beat him on the court. They couldn't beat him on the floor so they used HIV to get him out. They used the illness as an excuse even though it was clear (even back then) that for anyone to catch the disease they and Magic would have to be cut at the same time and then literally Magic would have to bleed into their cut. The disease is sexually transmitted... Catching it on the basketball court is next to impossible. The nature of the disease does not work the way NBA players were claiming and THEY knew it. Doctors knew it. Guys like Kevin McHale and Karl Malone complained a lot because they just wanted Magic off the court for good because Magic always beat them. The whole thing was scare tactics using a disease that the people were told was going to be a worldwide pandemic that would kill millions of people but that pandemic just never really panned out. (pun intended). My point was that Magic's career was not centered around HIV (which strangely he doesn't have anymore so in reality he probably never had it in the first place) Magic has even fathered children since the diagnosis and his wife and children are all fine and don't have the disease. Which would be impossible if he actually had HIV because it is a sexually transmitted disease. You cannot have HIV, and have sex with your wife and not give the disease to your wife... You cannot have HIV and have your healthy (HIV negative) wife give birth to children that are also HIV negative It was a set-up. If Magic was really sick he would have died already from an HIV related illness. If anybody thinks AZT cured him (or some horse pill cocktail) they can think again because all that crap ever does is break down the human immune system even further and that makes people die faster. What the vast majority of people are told is the truth and the actual truth are always two different things... Most especially in Hollywood, sport entertainment, and the TELL-LIE-VISION overall as a rule. They had to get rid of Magic if they were going to ride the Michael Jordan train deeper into the 1990's... Jordan never would have been Air Jordan with Magic Johnson in the league. So they told Magic he was sick with HIV because the league new he was Bi-sexual and had a habit of sleeping with male to female transgenders. So people in the league took steps to eliminate Magic altogether from the competition because his sexuality was his weakness... He had no weaknesses on the Basketball court. Because Magic probably would have played 20 seasons and kept dominating throughout... And the league didn't want the Lakers to dominate the 90's like they did in the 80's. League commissioner David Stern wanted Chicago (Murder incorporated) to finally cash in on Jordan after just less than a decade of nothing. Like I said... If Magic was really sick with HIV he'd of died somewhere around 2000, his wife would have got the disease when she was impregnated by him, and his children that were born after the diagnosis would have been born with HIV... None of that happened. It was a political hit job that was really meant to manipulate and scare the crap out of the masses and open the door for the Air Jordan show in the 1990's. Magic was the best basketball mind to ever play the game. Nobody understood the game better or ran a team on the floor like Magic did for 14 seasons. Magic is truly the greatest point guard/floor general/passer to ever play the game and freaking BS ESPN played politics and fear mongering to drill into peoples minds that Magic was sick... But oops.... Somebody forgot to tell Magic he was supposed to die from the disease they told him he had... But most likely he never had that disease or he would have died a very long time ago. :-I

You know, I had such a negative experience meeting Earvin "Magic" Johnson in 1987. The Los Angeles Lakers had just defeated The Boston Celtics for the NBA Championship. My wife worked at NBC Studios in Burbank CA and she called me at home saying that "Magic" Johnson was appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. She asked me if I could drive down immediately to meet him and I said "of course"!!! I raced down the freeway from Northridge to meet this man I most admired in the NBA! When "Magic" emerged walking to his car, I went up to him and put out my hand to shake his hand. I looked up at him, my God he was so tall! I'm 5' 7" tall, and he shook my hand as I said "Congratulations on the title! Magic!" and he said "Thank You" and stared blankly ahead not even smiling that famous wonderful smile and I felt so humiliated and hurt because "Magic" didn't even bother to look down at me. I never forgot that bad experience. It tarnished my image of "Magic" being that wonderful, kind and humble man with the wonderful infectious smile. I now refuse to meet famous people!!!

Magic had the better court vision, passing ability. He could drive more effectively and could lay in shots with better control. Overall they are almost equal in their differences. Its not a sense of anything lol being famous and a athlete many women will come at you and will sleep with you and throw themselves at you because you are famous.Nothing wrong with bedding many women he was just careless and didnt use protection when he should been ,especially when you have a wife and children
