If you put regular cutting Matt’s used for cutting fabric in the sun it will ruin them so I would be carful about putting that in the sun

This is the advide I got from someone to get rid of smell but I haven't tried that with mine as it doesn't smell. I keep my cutting mat (the self healing one) on my desk all the time as a background and it's still OK even with the direct sun reaching it for few hours a day. Maybe it depends on the mat itself?

Your experience with using this with the Big Shot worries me. I just purchased this as they showed it in their videos with the Big Shot.

I used the magic mat with my big shot, and it was completely mangled within hours. I originally blamed the magic mat, but think it may be my machine. I just purchased a Spellbinder 6 machine, so perhaps the second magic mat I purchased will work better on the new machine. I’m very disappointed in the Bug Shot I purchased last year. The cutting pads are awful quality.
