I picked up the i-Crafter i-Mend Self Healing Cutting mat that crafters were using with the gemini jr. I got it yesterday and had a hard time running it thru with some sandwiches. Saw your tip shared on using a Sizzix plate on bottom (which I have the Big Shot) and the Gemini Jr. plate on top with the magic shim in middle (which I now have on order) and it worked PERFECTLY. Thank you so much for the awesome share and tip :-) ** I also just tried the heating method on the green cutting mats I had been using that were beyond usable, and I am happy to say - they can be used again**

Just started using my Gemini jr with the Gemini cutting plates and the magic mat for die cutting. Only 1-1/2 days of cutting and top cutting plate as well as the magic mat was greatly warped! I took my hair blower set on high heat and it worked to flatten out the magic mat but it warped again immediately. I do have new Sizzix plates and will be trying out your sandwich suggestion. I hope I get better results.

Thanks for the tip! I have the magic mat and a heat tool makes it go flat! For thick 3D embossing folders like Tim Holtz I use a magic mat, embossing folder with cardstock, then the gemini plastic shim NO PLATES! I see a lot of folks on other channels frustrated by the TH 3D embossing folders and thought you might hear the same thing from your subscribers. ❤ your style I am a new subscriber!

I got mine 6mos ago, never found a sandwich to work, the manufacturer's sandwich didn't work , I had immediate excessive warping. I was threatening to throw it in the river🤣😂🤣. I found the golden ticket from Tina here on KZbin. Two magic mats and one Gemini acrylic plate, goes through smoothly, absolutely no warping, and cuts like butter.

Yes use debbie’s suggestion that you mentioned and it does work…can I use my Gemini for embossing and what would be the sandwich using the magic mat .😍

I haven't tried it with the Magic Mat yet, but always start with a thinner sandwich and then add the next thinest or even paper shims carefully.

I loved the Empress, but the plates did not last long, but my big disappointment was that i could not use the 3D embossing folders! So, i got the Gem II when it came out. Both of the long and shorter plates, shims, and magnetic mats were unusable too quickly. The smaller ones only lasted a week and ruined cardstock with impressions on the plate. They said to send pictures. The white plates even blistered! One came blistered. So, by some miracle, i found the Magic Plates! They are working so well, i ordered the long ones for my Anna G dies that are pretty good size! My sadness turned into Joy!

I’m glad the Magic Mat is working for you. I just picked up the mini Empress. It’s so compact on my craft table. It seems very convenient for most dies, bu I will still definitely need the Gemini jr for my larger cover plates. TFW😀

Don't bother with expensive branded products. Just buy a cheap self-healing mat (approx £3-4) from a craft outlet to replace one of your acrylic plates. A4 and A5 size are ideal for the Big Shot and Big Shot Plus, and just the right thickness. Been using one for a couple of years with no problems whatsoever.
