Your shocks for your door need to be moved in word more to where the black part is about a half inch inside the cabin.They’re closing all the way but they are not pivoting downward to allow the wall to close all the way.

Adam is right on point here. It’s not the shocks it’s the placement. They are compacting straight inward and can’t rotate as they should. Do some research on where they need to be placed and they will work. Great video! ❤️

Yep came to say the same. Think about how long the shocks are when compressed. That's how far apart the mounts need to be when the wall is closed. Same as on a truck cap etc. The way you had it the shock would have to compress to be 1 inch long which is impossible and why it kept breaking off. 👍

Those gas assisted struts need to be fully closed and in a 'locked' position to be installed correctly. From the factory, these types of supports are sent sealed and in a compressed ( not extended ) position. Door to be shut and tightly closed, then the struts are attached to your framing and to your door. After attaching same , slowly open door and release the ' keeper' that has been holding the strut closed, while you are pushing open the door for the first time. This should do it for an initial installation. If the door does not fully open as you would like , then longer struts may have to be used. The ones you have now might not give you the desired amount of ' opening ' in the door as you once had, using only the wood pole for your prop. Bill S.

Adam Nitro got it perfect when he mentioned the pivoting action. The way you mounted the struts they push directly against the door at a 90 degree angle. You need the struts to move away from the door as it closes. Watch a hatch back vehicle door close that has struts, you will probably say "of course" The principle is simple once you see it. Hey Brooke, for that hinged wall, consider a garage door spring system rated for that weight. They're not as cheap as gas struts but not terrible in price. Wind it reverse of a garage door. Instead of pulling a door up causing the cable to spool in. your wall would move out causing the cable to spool out as well. You can counter wind that wall with a spring to the point where you can open the wall with two fingers. Along the same manner, mount a handle on both sides and have a frame to frame latch to keep it from opening unintentionally. I think the gas struts are too short for that wall. Typically to achieve mechanical advantage they'd need to be about half the length of the wall, the base mounted all the way up on the frame and the piston mounted at the location of the wall with it shut. I think they're as strong as they should be and you're running into binding because the uncompressed angle is too drastic. Source: Former Transam owner who hates gas struts 🙂

Hi Brooke, try installing the spring shocks from the inside with the wall closed, then you can figure out the adjustment needed for the height. Should be installed first in the close position? Love your channel!
@typewriter68852 жыл бұрын
Looking closer, perhaps the absorbers are installed the wrong way, should they be flipped ... black on top/silver on the bottom?
@judithwilber25402 жыл бұрын
@@typewriter6885 i think they need to be in closed position and the door/wall closed at install so they are all the way in...thats why it wasnt closing cuz they were halfway sticking out
@garywood7022 жыл бұрын
Exactly my thought. Close the door and then install for that position. Might not give you the opening Brooke is looking for though...

Another thing to take into consideration, the orientation of the gas strut. There is a seal that holds the gas inside the shock, and around 50mls of oil inside the cylinder which keeps this seal lubricated,...... only if the orientation is correct. When the cylinder is closed it should have the chrome spear lower than the black cylinder, so the oil inside the cylinder is lubricating the seal. All gas struts have this same principle. More often than not, when gas struts fail, they are mounted upside-down , or , at least, in a manner that the oil inside the cylinder, isn't lubricating the seal. Eventually the gas leaks past the seal, if it's dry.

Absolutely love Moose! He’s such a great dog! Steps look really good Brooke! Such a relaxing vid, love it so much! Premature, commented before your worries with the wall. I have confidence in you, you’ll figure it out. God bless!

Fit the shocks with the wall closed and the shocks at nearly their shortest length. Then just open it up. David in the U.K.

I have watched you build everything...on this video I was impressed by the shock idea. I was wondering when u would notice the rope, and felt your frustration as you tried again and again. Apparently, Moose is a squirrel...him up that tree was hilarious! Love that spice pouch...great idea! Typewriting on birchbark...brilliant!! Good to see you guys having fun!

That steak with mushrooms and onions had me practically salivating! I so enjoy your adventures. I retired last August 2021, that with my wife of 21+ years of marriage passing to heaven with respiratory issues and finally diagnosed with Covid in 2020, there now is much more time available to sit back and relax, watching your KZbin entries. The outdoors that God provides bring special comfort to life these days and at 64 your excursions still allow me to travel along in the slower pace of retirement. You motivate me to once again to break out the tent again. But as I have learned now alone, the joys of simple pleasures have lost much of their luster without my spouse by my side to love. Lately the heat in the south has been way too much in Alabama but we know cooler days in later months are ahead which I'm looking forward to. Maybe I can seek out the peaceful tranquility of a forest soon. I too have been known to fragrance the woods cooking a mean steak with bell peppers and onions and a side order of baked potato. Thank you so much for your videos, inviting love of the outdoors, simple prayers for tasty morsels and a thankful heart for God's amazing creation of nature. Your videos are something of great value which are very rare these days. God's speed and safety to you and yours throughout your future journeys ahead. P.S. I also enjoyed the series ALONE with you as well as your husband. Your adventures allow people to travel along and that is truly a gift to give. What a great purpose you have to serve! Happy Trails my friend!
