Although the TurboGrafx-16’s game library is full of classic shooters, most of them are not nearly as valuable as Magical Chase. With cute graphics and an insane price point, Magical Chase has made a name for itself in the retro gaming world. However, even though there are a lot of positive aspects about the game, Magical Chase isn’t quite a perfect shooter.
So come with us as we explore and attempt to discover who exactly developed Magical Chase, and learn about the game’s VERY interesting plot. Without further ado, IT’S TURBO TIME!

Our whole family loves him, especially my wife, so he really has become our mascot. We plan on putting him in every TG-16 video we make this year because he’s been there since the beginning with out TG-16 videos. But I want to use him even more than that. Thanks for watching dude! 😎

Lately, I've noticed at the Exchange (local chain of music, movies, and video games both new and used) that certain games are being sold for $150. A used cartridge of Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for the N64 has that price tag (if not, higher).

Its crazy. Some day the price will come down but long gone are the days of $5.00 bargains at garage sales and swap meets. Thanks for watching dude! 😎

Upselling, Reviewers in youtube glorifying these games also affects casual collector market. At this point you ar ejust good to go with an SD cart.
@creativecatproductions
@creativecatproductions Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I think the casual collectors market evaporated roughly a decade ago. I think a small percent of aggressive collectors, attempting to corner a market, drastically drove up prices deliberately as a kind of investment scheme. I’m not sure they were influenced exclusively by KZbin? Or by the positive response to the retro mini console market, or the many retro gaming conventions and sellers/resellers that have continued to pop into existence? But I think the trend has hit its upper limits. The prices will come down for most games (never to the bargain bin levels they were in 2009 though), the mini consoles seem to be over, there will be fewer conventions and shows. Even retro gaming KZbin is kind of on a downward turn lately. People all have their eyes on news about world war 3 or race baiting and crime in the streets. The times are too turbulent!

Haha this definitely sounds like a formula for a game that would be insanely priced. It does look super cute! Just not a full mortgage worth of cute lol

I ask myself, who are the guys that are both nostalgic for the TG16 and yet rich enough to buy these games at tens of thousands of dollars?! My memory of TG16 gamers was that they were a little rough around the edges? Do they really pay that much to smoke cigarettes and skateboard? How much lunch money did these guys accumulate? Thanks for watching dude! 😎

It's worth noting that what people are ASKING for Magical Chase isn't what it's value is or what it has actually sold for is. Also tied to the rarity, the issue wasn't just that it was produced in small quantities. It was a game not based on an existing franchise that was released late in the Turbo's life, so when Turbo Zone Direct and the Canadian Distributor for Turbo Grafx games bought up the remaining and returned TTI stock, they bought far fewer copies of the unsold stock than they did for Bonk 3 (which I believe was actually the last US HuCard). This led to more copies being destroyed when TTI liquidated their unsold assets combined with the fact that the game was on the market for a shorter period of time than say World Sports Competition or Legend of Hero Tonma which led to the number of copies that survived being lower.

@creativecatproductions Жыл бұрын
This is very true! Truth be told, this video was written by my 14 year old daughter, so I’ll cut her some slack 😆 Im surprised to hear that TTI would have destroyed their inventory. Id like to think that somewhere buried in the new mexico desert are thousands of copies of magical chase and bonk 3. Thanks for watching dude! 😎
@DragonmasterDan
@DragonmasterDan Жыл бұрын
@@creativecatproductions the widely circulated story is that the owner of TZD stated that what wasn't bought by TZD or the Canadian distributor met its end with a steam roller. The HuCard games had a higher manufacturing value than CD games generally did, so Magical Chase, Tonma and World Sports competition were only bought by TZD in quantities of 100 each beyond what was sold at retail or through the mail order service prior to TZD buying it. A quick addendum to this is that all of the Bonk 3s, Darkwing Duck (eww), Order of the Griffon (based on D&D) and Bomberman 93s survived as they were all purchased by TZD and the Canadians despite being produced in low quantities late in the systems lifespan.

Also, I'm sick that I can't get good used video games between $5-25 dollars anymore. Anything good is around $35 bucks or MUCH MUCH higher. I used to love going to my used video game store, and leave with a bag of six games for around like $28 dollars.

It’s weird how the price of old used games has gone up to levels they were when they were brand new! I really hope more of these classic games get re-releases or some manner of official preservation and recognition.

Awesome, it's crazy rare but still crazy good too. No one has gone after my Twin Galaxies world record score yet but at this rate I think most collectors wanna leave the game alone and don't wanna shot down snowman with hockey masks? Still better then those lame Harry Potter games!

Very fun video, if a bit on the short side. I was hoping for some commentary on the bosses and later levels, heck even the ending. It's a shame Magical Chase's notorious value overshadows a fun game.
