TMNT Mutant Mayhem: Is it any good?

Recently Seth Rogen released his new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie….extremely odd! But is it any good? Well, we went to the movies to find out for ourselves. This video summarizes our thoughts. Let us know what you think! And thanks for watching!

I didn't even know this movie came out. I think I need to check it out. Your last Ninja Turtles video had me searching KZbin for some of the original cartoons (still really fun) and then I watched the Michael Bay Turtles movie for the first time after finding out the Reacher actor plays Rafael. I won't say it replaced the original turtle movie as my new favorite but it was better than I expected. I thought their twist on the Turtles story was solid, that the turtles each had unique personalities and Will Arnett as Vern the whiny cameraman was just wonderful.

I have to agree that Will Arnett made a great Vern. I love that guy in most everything he’s in! Yeah this movie seems to have been missed by most. Im really surprised it wasn’t a big deal 😎

That outro music always takes me back!!! Personal opinion: I hate when major celebrities do voice-work. This is why I'll never watch this movie. I can't get lost in the movie and enjoy it. All I hear is Seth Rogan and his overpaid pals goofing off and ruining animated characters. Every once in a while, a well established on-camera actor can do good voice work (Keith David-Goliath). Otherwise, most of the time I'd rather hear professional voice actors morph their vocal talents into a turtle or a giant fly or a Shredder or an April (Billy West or Tom Kenny or Peter Cullen or Frank Welker or Jim Cummings or Tress MacNeille or Nancy Cartwright as examples). If you watch an animated movie or show, and can easily call out the celebrity voicing a character... then they are doing their job all wrong. Great video! Thank you.

I’ve always struggled with that as well. In this movie, with the exception of Jackie Chan, the major celebrity voices are all extremely hidden by silly performances. Post Malone, for instance, sings all of his dialogue. It’s not like a Blue Sky movie or Illuminations where they go out of their way to make sure you recognize the celebrities…..its more like the time George Clooney played a barking dog on South Park 😆 Professional voice actors, however, are definitely better! I enjoyed the movie. I haven't analyzed it deeply, but at the very least the turtles being teenagers was refreshing. A lot of the scenes had me laughing. I did find April kind of annoying in this version, but I guess it worked for the story.

Yeah i think april could have been a stronger character. I realize now that she was actually deliberately created to be annoying and she had that kind of backstory. She could have been fleshed out more, but what they did with her was cool and funny.

Thanks for the heads up I guess I'll skip this one. I wish we could find a way to leave politics out of particularly family films. That TMNT animated movie from 2006 or so is pretty damn good. Hey dude! Did you make it through this blistering Summer? North Texas was just about the hottest in the nation at many times... even beating out Death Valley. As an example, just last Friday (not even a week ago) we were setting more North Texas records at 110 degrees. Flash forward to this week, we've finally had rain move in. Temps in the mid to high 80s. Bring on Halloween.

He was a great talent. As you may have guessed, that’s one of my favorite shows of all time. He did a great job with that character.

@@creativecatproductions Very sad. Wonder what the cause was? .... He appeared a little ragged in his last video. Hope it wasn't mental struggles or personal demons. But it could have been just typical physical ailments. Visually, it looked like he was a heavy smoker and drinker, so it could have been vice related. I suppose it's none of my business... but I'll miss him. Thanks for your reply.

Its kind if like hoe Paul Reubens recently died. He was sick for a long time but chose to keep it private. He also seemed pretty bad off in recent times but indicated nothing. I don’t really know the details though

Creative Cat Productions, What is your favorite Shmup games and 2d platform games of all time? 🙂🤔

This is a hard question to answer! I think in terms of individual consoles. I think when it comes to platformers, the NES was my favorite: ducktales, mega man, and of course mario bros, especially super mario bros 3. Im mainly a Sega guy, so I really love the Castle of Illusion series, and the Revenge of Shinobi on the Genesis is one of my all time favorites, but when I feel like a platformer, I mostly go with older Nintendo stuff. Shooters on the other hand are where I mostly turn to the TG-16. Blazing Lazers being my favorite for nostalgic reasons, but I also really love Aero Blaster (Air buster) and the soldier blade series. On the Genesis, another shooter powerhouse, my favorite for sure was Thunder Force III by technosoft and, once again, Truxton for the Sega Genesis is a big hit of nostalgia for me. Generally, I like a lot of shooters and there are many many great shooters on both the Gensis and TG16. But on the NES, I really enjoyed Gradius and Lifeforce and on the SNES I consider Axelay an underrated hidden gem. Its so good. Of cours the Snes had great platforrmers as well. Everyone loves super mario world, but for me Donkey Kong Country was my favorite for its simplicity and beautiful soundtrack. Ive never been much of a sonic fan, oddly enough, though I respect the series. My favorite platform games on the Genesis were more action oriented stuff like the shinobi sereies (shinobi III is wicked) or the Disney games….especially the Castle of Illusion games by Sega and quackshot! Thanks dude! Yeah that ninja turtles video is my favorite thing we ever did! I think a Mario video would be awesome. There’s so much good material and the Mario stuff was always really enjoyable. I really loved the animated series as a kid, and I actually liked that movie everyone hates from the early 90s. Have you seen the new movie? A lot of people like it, but we loved it. Especially my wife of all people who gave it like a perfect 10/10. I don’t know why but she freaking loves that movie 😝 She not even a gamer, though she is pretty good at Mario 3. It was like the only videogame she owned as a kid.

@@creativecatproductions I have seen the new movie and loved it. I can understand people's reservations about the casting of Chris Pratt as Mario, but I enjoyed his preformance. I heard Universal is tapping DreamWorks to make a Zelda movie. Your thoughts?

@randallscott4581 I’d definitely love to see a Zelda movie. I haven’t seen a dreamworld movie in ages. I guess illuminations wasn’t ideal? Or else they’d want to go that route again. I’m genuinely intrigued! There’s speculation that they would be setting up a Nintendo cinematic universe and I think that’s a safe bet…..smash brothers the movie? I think so!

I’m not nor have I ever been what I would consider a “Turtles fan” and despite the fact I HATE race swapped characters and Seth Rogen annoys me…. I loved this movie, and I think it’s the best Turtles ANYTHING that’s been made!

Ive long been a fan of ninja turtles, particularly the original tv series and games….I think this really is the best Ninja Turtles movie ever made for sure. I have my prejudices but I have to concede its the best. I actually really like Seth Rogen even though we have nothing in common. They should have changed the spelling of her name to O’Neal. As an hommage to Patrice O’Neal. Or they could have made her a completely new character. She really should have been the focal point of the narrative. Her troubles, her alienation, her investigation into the mutant phenomenon….but no! They wanted more bacon, egg, and cheese dance and an unnecessarily long scene about stealing groceries!
