Observing people trying to maintain their lifestyle and traditions in a world that is dominated by materialism and superficiality, I can understand would leave you feeling a little melancholic. Your video modestly shining a light on their cohabitation with nature, is their only hope of letting the world know about their existence. Extending the hand of peace to people living in harmony with their environment is a beautiful thing. You, in association with Ekaterina, help us appreciate their uncomplicated life.

Important to give a voice to those who protest for the ruinous encroachment of "unknowns" on the forests and springs that provide their livelihood. The multiple expressions of their culture, traditions, desires of these simple, honest village people provides a refreshing look at natural life, a lost feature of urban, toxic living.

Love it. Great community. All share a spiritual connection. Spirituality is a "social glue" that bonds people together. What I see in the faces of these folks is "one for all and all for one". Good stuff. So, Elena, you are melancholic because you envy these folks? Keep searching Elena, self-discovery is slow. I'm a medicine man. Every summer, I vision quest for 30 days at a time in the Rocky Mountains in a cow pasture at 5700 ft elevation. Each time when I leave the 30-day quest, I can feel a big change has occurred after I come back to my home. Finding oneself is a life-long journey. I'm 78 years old. And still finding new things about myself. When I read your eyes, I can see someone who has strong passions for people and love for animals. However, I also see animals don't share the same feeling for you. They are somewhat afraid of you. You can change that by letting them come to you. Animals and children are slow to develop trust because they feel threatened by strong emotions. So, ignore them and let them come to you. I wish you well, be well and be happy. Keep up the good work.
@elenastravels
@elenastravels Жыл бұрын
I agree with you! I also felt that spiritual connection. I was melancholic probably because it was very quiet and empty there - there was more space to be with your thoughts, unlike when you are in the city. Wow this quest sounds like such a great and transforming experience! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Maybe one day I'll try going on a similar journey. Interesting advice about animals! I've never thought of it this way. I can say that my pets have always loved me and treated me like a friend. But I guess wild animals can sense my nervousness. Even though I love animals, I don't know what to expect from them when I meet them for the first time. I'll try your approach next time :)

@@elenastravels Elena - did you get the pictures of my Bilibin themed balalaika? I sold it to a Russian gentleman in New South Wales, Australia a number of years ago. There is something magical about Bilibin's art. The style was copied here in the US. If you look at Grimm's Fairy Tales and the old Wizard of Oz books, you can see the comparison.

Some of the houses and many of the wooden figures look like very artistic and it leaves us surprised from where the inspiration to do this came from. Most look also new, and I would like to know how this was during Soviet times? Interesting, how the people want to protect the natural springs and the forrests. The signboard with the "angry spirits" warning is unique 😉I'm afraid this is the last generation, that is able and willing to maintain such traditions. The young people have left and are not much interested, it seems to me. That makes your research and publication very valuable on the long term. As you know "once something is on the internet, it will never again go away".
@elenastravels
@elenastravels Жыл бұрын
I think the inspiration for those sculptures came from Udmurt & Russian folk tales and legends. The old houses were probably built during Soviet times. Sadly, you might be right about the last generation... But I really hope it won't be the case!

@LouisHansell
@LouisHansell Жыл бұрын
@@elenastravels I hope you understand my reply as constructive. I really enjoy your videos. Yet, I would direct their creation to have more interaction in the video with the local people you talk about. t wouldn't take any time at all to gather the names, if you recorded as you spoke to the locals, and had a recorded dialogue with them. You could say, "Tell me about yourself, and the food you are making..." and let them free-respond. Now the viewer of your video is there with them, rather than the arms-length atmosphere of a voice-over This would enhance viewer involvement. Yes, you had a man talking about the local forest, but there could have been interaction with the other local people. Instead, the viewer experiences them removed from their environment. Imagine a movie in which only a voice-over tells you about the background and actions of the characters. That would create a distance between the story and the viewer. Having a dialogue between the characters creates involvement, it involves the viewers sensorium. That makes compelling video.
