Magician reacts to Raffaele Scircoli 2019 perform his mentalism voodoo doll pk touch magic act where he becomes a puppet master over his volunteer for Penn and Teller on their show Penn & Teller Fool Us 2019. Raffaele Scircoli is an Italian magician who won and received the Fooler trophy from Penn and Teller. This is Fool Us Season 6 2019 s06e04. What did you think about this mentalism routine? What do you think about the huge white puppet? Scary??

Note: I made a second reaction (let's call it Reaction 2.0) to a different version of Raffeale's same act. AFTER you finish THIS video, then go ahead and see part 2.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJrUfHyhYqqEp6s Hey everyone, thanks for watching this reaction video! This was the only act that fooled Penn & Teller on this episode, and I think it was an interesting performance. I guess we've seen a lot of this type of mentalism recently, but I thought Raffaele had an interesting spin. And although I had some guesses towards the end, I can't say I'm 100% sure how he did it. So nice job Raffaele! I have great admiration for these magicians who go to perform on competition shows... it must take a lot of work to make sure everything goes according to plan!! Hope you are all having an excellent week!

The way I see it that the assistant picked from the audience was done by the performer himself... He had total control of that. Even though the rules say no shill is involved he managed to pull it off with his own pick of who to use.

as said by penn, bone condensor to transmit sound to the subject. that is why he needs the earplugs, since a bone condensor is mostly used for (almost) deaf people to hear by vibrations, but for a normal person in sounds strange if you hear other stuff. but that's 1/3 of how he did it. so i'm guessing there is something in the chair, and maybe also a light before the eyes in the mask. all things that are easy to pull out when you give the mask to the person at the end.

I like that thought. With the right type of speakers and recording in the "earplugs", it could sound exactly like the magician was right behind him talking to him, and the volunteer wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Not an instant stooge but an unwitting one, thinking all the while "okay, are you going to ever ask me to do anything more interesting than lift my arms and fingers?" 😂

Transponders inside magicians shoes (probanly near big toe) 4. When both sensors pressed, he raised both arms. 5. Removes sensors when sitting down the subject into chair. 6. Ear plugs are to prevent subject from hearing where the magician is located. HOwever, the subject thinks the magician is still right behind him "sit down please" 7. Directional speakers are behind the subject which only he can hear, recordings of the magicians voice such as "slowing raise your right arm.... Raise your first finger....." 8. Commands were timed to the beat of the music.

I think the two things on the table behind him are directional speakers or vibrate somehow, sending a message through the mask. No one else can hear them (only if you are in the right spot). The other option is that it communicates sound to the head like those telephones for deaf people..through the skull, so that's why the magician wanted to put the mask on by himself.

Earplugs to force target's hearing focus more onto bone conduction noises. Those types of plugs attenuate but do not eliminate airborne noise, so the magician could still instruct him by voice. UV or IR laser or Ultrasonic transmission onto target (mask) to give instructions. We already know that the US military has tested remote laser type devices to cause crowd dispersal by making people think their skin hurts, so a toned down version to simulate touch is not out of the question. We also know that lasers can excite materials in the sonic frequency band. In this application it would turn the mask into a speaker of sorts. With correct tuning and amplitude, only the target could hear it.

I think Jason was right with the first part of the act. I think the second part was a pre-recorded voice of the magician telling the volunteer to "Stand up and take a bow". I believe the ear plugs were important to make it sound more like the magician was right beside him telling him what to do as opposed to it being a voice coming through a speaker.

I say it’s narrowly directed spoken directions propagated from directional speakers offstage right into the ears and the earplugs help muffle any sharp high frequency components.

The mask he put on the man from the audience (assistant) had a radio receiver with a bone conduction transducer. The earplugs help to hear bone conduction audio in that audio from outside the ear is attenuated which allows one to hear the bone conduction audio better. Giving directions to the assistant is easily done by someone off stage. The manner which he placed the mask on the assistant shows that he was hiding something inside the mask. The camera did not show the removal of the assistant's mask well.

I think that there's an electronic device attached to the string of the audience member's mask, you can see at 03:30 how he doesn't allow the spectator to put the mask itself, and how the magician holds the whole things. The earplugs and the mask, avoid the audience member to know exactly where is the magician and change the sounds perceived by him. The little radio speaker could reproduce a very low sound that mimic the real voice that you can actually hear with the earplugs, since the sound goes also through skull's bones. "Now please rise three fingers, the show is over, please bow to the audience... Etc..." He's only following the instructions, so it's not a stooge!

I have no idea how it was done but two things really struck me.. The first is that the guy in the mask defied all human nature by not turning his head when the magician was behind him and told him to sit.. If you stand behind someone and say something 99 time out of a hundred they will turn their head even a little toward the sound, it's pure reflex.. The second thing I noted that even with the earplugs in and the magician not speaking with a raised voice he still heard and obeyed the command to sit..

Okay, so the first bit - where the volunteer raises his hand every time he feels a touch - is the standard "PK Touch" routine (the magicians here will know how this works; I'm not going to give it away). The second part - where he raises a specific number of fingers, stands up and bows - was clearly an "Instant Stooge" routine, where he was given instructions via an earpiece. Notice that he doesn't bow the same as the dummy. That's because he's simply being told to bow (he can't see the dummy), and everyone interprets a bow in a slightly different way. So the routine combines at least two methods, which is why P&T were a bit confused. They were familiar with "PK Touch", but the method involved in that illusion didn't explain the second part. Penn begins to discuss the possible method(s) *in code*, but we don't know what was said, because the video was edited immediately after he said: "But say you had an orchestra..." We then jump to magician replying: "No, no, it's one of three ingredients." By which he presumably means that he used three different methods to create the illusion - ie, the two I mentioned above, that P&T would have guessed, and some other method that they couldn't figure out. I don't see why he would have needed three different methods, because the entire effect can be explained by the two I mentioned, so that's a bit of a puzzle. The earpiece was obviously concealed in either the mask or the earplugs. Both of these items were handled suspiciously. The volunteer was told to insert the earplugs "very deep" in his ears (and yet, as others have noted, he was still able to hear instructions given to him by the magician). As for the mask, the magician made sure to attach it himself ("I help you"), and also made sure not to allow the audience (or the camera) to see the other side of it. The earplugs could have easily been switched at the end, before Penn asked to examine them. The mask could also have been "disappeared" and replaced with a different one (the guy is a magician, after all!); or, if there was a gimmick of some kind attached, it could easily have been removed. Unfortunately the video is edited, making it impossible for us to keep our eyes on the evidence. Two things I did find odd. The volunteer was selected by the magician, not chosen by some random method (such as throwing a ball into the audience). Were it not for the fact that performers are explicitly forbidden from using stooges, I would have immediately assumed that the volunteer was the magician's best friend, or his brother or whatever. But we have to take it on trust that stooges aren't allowed (personally I take this reassurance with a large pinch of salt. Derren Brown, the British mentalist, uses stooges all the time, despite a statement at the start of all his shows that no stooges are used). The other thing I found a bit odd was that this magician chose such a risky trick to perform on such an important show. I'm talking about the "instant stooge" part of the routine. Not everyone goes along with it. But then again, magicians take calculated risks all the time. But still, it takes large cajones to perform a trick that relies on the goodwill cooperation of a member of the audience, on a TV show watched by millions of people.
@josephblanchard6248
@josephblanchard6248 5 жыл бұрын
Well yea, and also what would happened when whatever voice he heard start talking to him and so then he started to say something back. That's too much of a risk tbh. Because you have to rely on so many variables, especially like I said, him saying something back, even as a reflex. Because I know that I probably for sure would lol. And that would have ruined his act asap, PLUS the CREDIBILITY of the show AND Penn & Teller as well. So idk man. I'm obviously still iffy on this lol. Because I do wonder what the odds are, of the "instant stooge" having a reflex/talking back. So I'd just guess that ATLEAST HALF would say something back, accidentally as a reflex. Sheesh, 1/10 odds isn't worth the risk, especially live on stage, and not only that, but live on stage AND on national tv. And so that just isn't worth the risk for both parties tbh.

The instant stooge seems quite obvious, and, as you said, the "fooler" part was in how to give him informations. My guess, and I have absolutely no idea if it is even possible, so feel free to mock me, is that a device is attached at the string of the mask, probably working by bone conduction (like when you bite a tuning fork) , and then removed when the mask is removed, leaving the mask clean to be examined. The earplugs are not problem with bone conduction, and the audience would not be able to hear anything.

it was something with the earplugs for sure,its easy to have a pair in the pocket and switch,they are small, but notice when he bends over the puppet, he presses on it's belly so much that the pupped is lifted from the ground a little, as he was pressing something there.so i think the earplugs are recievers and the puppet had recorded messages in the limbs. you take the hand and lift it, pressure on the spot were u know its the play button, the "assistant" hears and does it. he bends it over, press on the play button on the belly, the assistant her the message to bend.and so on.the earplug device is used in exams at schools for over 5 years i think. the device itself is like a wire. about 1 centimeters long and milimeter or less thick.like a piece of hair.it's so small and thin that after exams,students were rushed to doctor to pull it out cause it got in too deep.so yea, i think its all about audio commands.

I paused at the end of the act before anyone said anything to put in my guess: those were not ear plugs to suppress loud sound. They were simply small speakers, possibly Bluetooth. And the mask had 2 receivers that vibrated his skin. Simple. Edit: So you agreed with me. The place to hide the innocent mask and ear plugs is on the back of the chair.

The ear plugs are a diversion, to hide the already placed smaller ear piece radio in the "in on it" man's ear. One flaw, in the "bow" the right arm of the dummy is brought in, the radio guy said "take a bow" not "bring in your right arm to your stomach and bow".

At 7:41 you can see that there is a black box attached to the puppet. I’m guessing that it`s a radio transmitter of some sort. You can see a another version of this trick on Raffaeles channel. In that version there is no ear plugs so I guess they actually are legimate plugs. You need them on the big stage so you can hear better the voices in the mask. All the electronics are hidden under the black cloth in the mask. Yet I still don`t know what was the third ingredient. This was very cool.

( firstly that volunteer put up both hands to pretend he is the most excited to participate thus standing out of the crowd) On stage its in the music ...that volunteer is a shill and follows the beat previously practiced. Notice First section music just right left moves (to make you think its speaker in mask /then Raff removes his mask and your brain is now scattered but second section music is different and shill counts beat 4/8/16. We do this in our music class to fool friends ...LOL!

Ear plugs were real ear plus. So what was it? Bone conduction is the conduction of sound to the inner ear primarily through the bones of the skull, allowing the hearer to perceive audio content without blocking the ear canal. (he removed it when he took the mask off)...the ear plugs he has helped him hear this way.

Love your videos. this is my first time commenting and to possibly give away the trick is a little unsettling but since this is only a guess, i'll go ahead. Look at the table behind the participant with the antenna/speaker type objects on it. Two of the three things he could be using are 1) puffs of air while the participant is standing. Remember the very soft touch on the hair as part of conditioning; this can be mimicked by air puffs Then 2) while the participant is sitting his head is placed at just the right spot for directional sound/acoustical coherence for him to receive instructions to become the instant stooge. The ear plugs help block out the performance music for the participant and helps to enhance the frequency of the directional sound. The performance music covers up the sound of the air puffs and the stooge instructions for the audience. I've debated the third thing and my only guess is the music is the timing mechanism for the control actions.

Well, Bone Conduction (in the full episode, he's admitted to it) is only 1 of 3 techniques used. Initially, he must have been touching the guy with something, perhaps throwing some small items at him so the guy felt actual touch and didn't realize it was done from a distance. Perhaps using very thin wires that wouldn't be visible from afar... Or has planted some kind of a device at the back of the guy (certainly did something at the back) that 'touches' him at the back... Second one would be some kind of a bone-conducting speaker in the mask - hence the instructions (don't take off your mask), and third are the ear plugs, which are needed to block most of the regular sounds so the guy can focus on the faint sounds from the bone-conducting speaker.
@pituspete
@pituspete 5 жыл бұрын
@TheHound - what's 'nuts' about these ideas? How did he 'touch' the guy in your opinion? The guy admitted that he was touched... Of course, he could have been touched earlier and the context of the question was different for him and for us ... There could have been a device planted at the back to stimulate a touch... but what's wrong with just a simple throwing of tiny objects at the person ? It's just an option that's quite possible and would have worked too :P

I think I get how the trick is working, the regular pk touch stuff was going on but there were a few mind tricks being played on the audience and the subject. He was training the subject to take commands outside of raising your hand the entire time. The audio from the buds must have sounded like his commands enough to get him to do the fingers and so on. Though I think they did check out the buds later... hmm...

So, here's my guess. The magician used some sort of precision sound projector (I don't know the precise name of this tech, but it isn't prohibitively expensive). The magician spoke to him a few times in the beginning to establish he would be giving the participant instructions now and then. In the second half, the sound projector was used to ask the participant questions like "Raise your right hand and indicate how many times we've worked together, including today". To the participant, it seems like he is just proving they've never worked together, but to the audience it seems like mind-control. . I mean, I don't know. I'm not a magician. I don't know if these things are being used by magicians. I don't know how well they really isolate sound. But if they could be used, people should be doing this!

We know that this act is based on 3 techs. Raffaele says it before he got the trophy. We also know that one is PK touch. If Penn & Teller don't want to lose their reputation, we also know that no stooges are allowed, and all acts are revealed to the judges beforehand. If the ear plugs were important for the trick to work, why would the magician himself point to it by speaking to the guy extremely quiet, so that even the dumbest among us realize that they are not really successful at reducing his hearing capacity and therefore lead us to think they have a second purpose? But there's something about the reaction of the audience guy that is strange. You can clearly see that there are several very delayed reactions (at one point Raffaele even needed to improvise) and that indeed could point to instructions given. But even then, we still don't know the other two methods.

The first part was "touch", including raising both arms when the touch was made at the time of editing on Penn and Teller (this camera cutting is bad). Everyone probably knows why dancing around a man is very important and what the perspective is. The second part (coded) - nice mask stands made with a sound laser shaking the bones to the beat of an MP3 player synchronized with the stage music. Bravo.

If there was a speaker "talking" to the volunteer that was at a higher frequency, the ear plugs needing to be in properly could filter the excess noise so that the volunteer could hear it easier but noone else could.

Part Solution: The chair, the music, bone conduction and principles of PK Touch dual reality. The material inside the mask could be sound conducting and transmit through earbones on the side of the face. The music could perhaps contain sound that is on a frequency the material reacts to. The light and sound depravation of the subject means their other senses will heighten to perceive touch. Then he hears instructions on how many different noises did he hear, hold up your answer with your fingers of the right hand, how many times? Hold up your answer in fingers - three...thank you now take a bow for being a good sport! - or something like that!

From what I’m noticing there are no electronics used. I’m going with the hypothesis that, at least the mask was switched out and the spectator could see through the one he used via mirrors. Hence the delayed responses and the angle of his chair compared with the dolls chair position. Idk for sure tho 🤷🏻‍♂️

When he is being "touched," the spectator's hand rises quickly. When the dummy hand is slowly lifted, the spectator raises his hand slowly. Why the difference? It seems he's being told to "raise your hand slowly." My first thought was earphones, because plugging the ears wasn't necessary for other PK-touch routines that have been performed on the show.

My thoughts don’t add up to the entire piece, but may give ideas. I’m no magician just like to ponder... Instant stooge for certain. I’m very familiar with foam earplugs (have 32 dB in now to test) and they do not eliminate low volume speech at all. Mostly they eliminate very loud ones such as motors or gunshots. I’m testing and in fact they make soft human speech EASIER to hear. Much easier, filtering out all of the extraneous sounds. I’m doing experiments with speech and I can hear voices on the lowest settings of my phone when behind me, upper shoulders with all sorts of sound further away. The earplugs seem to greatly assist. I believe a black colored device that transitions the volunteer’s spine longitudinally is placed on the upper shoulders. This is easily accomplished with all the moving around behind the volunteer. You will notice that both the magician and the volunteer are wearing black. It’s why he chose that volunteer. I’ll have to watch again to see if I see anything but this show is definitely edited and it may not be obvious. It didn’t matter one bit where the magician pointed, the “touch” was to either side of the spine always in the same spot. The device itself had a pressure device, antenna and speaker. An off camera accomplice assisted. It’s possible the device came a bit loose and was difficult to feel in the delayed response. The offstage accomplice then had to send the signal again a few times to register.

OK, some brainstorming here. Focused air gun from offstage. Invisible ultra-violet light projected onto the "eyes" of the mask, which turn it into visible light, but only for the participant (like posters that glow green when exposed to "black light"). But replacing the earplugs seems easiest.

So yea 100% hes talking to him through an ear plug or something , or its a plant , Just my thoughts.
