These ride manufacturers need commendations.. how they make these rides to fold up to be able to be pulled is just genius..and the larger rides being assembled in such a short time is just amazing.. pure skill and expertise by these fair men and women who rig them up ,just amazing.

As a boy in the 70s, I loved the fair pulling into our town for a week. I just loved watching the build-up. How these guys and gal's lived, I just wanted to travel with them, but Mother wouldn't allow that ,never mind school. I would say. Then the fair it's self especially at night great atmosphere, the lights, the noise, it will always stay with me great times

I travelled fun fair as a younger man. We did Ilkeston in 1974 with Collin's waltzer. I loved the job and went all over the country with different rides. Rainy gaf's could get us down, especially on a wet pull down.

I remember when a small fair visited our town every year. This was in the mid 70` so kids my age knew how to have proper fun. It was a highlight...Until the local council banned it from all towns in its jurisdiction, Only 8`-10 kids were maimed on every visit on average andy 4 kids got killed each year. I dont know what the fuss was all about

Glad you liked it. In answer to your question, it depends who is the organiser of the fair.. My understanding is that Under Showmans Guild rules, once someone has attended a fair for 2 consecutive years they have the right to that same size space in the same spot at future fairs, This is why you often see the same ride in the same place year after year. If a showman buys a new ride they need to be sure it'll fit in the same space they have the right to. I believe showmen can also sell their rights or pass on to a family member. Some organisers keep swapping particular spaces so no one gets the rights, call it a guest spot. It means they can invite someone with a different ride to attend the fair. If however it's a private event then anyone can hire their ride. I believe if the fair is on private land then there's also no rights given, but I may be incorrect on that.

Have a amazing history .one that needs to continue to be supported when they hit your village/town. We have walls(?) fair come to us and not coincidentally They are behind my house right at this moment..I live on the edge of a park and they are doing a cheap night tonight so it's very busy out there ..some great rides...I've just seen some featured here..most probably the exact ones. And these peep speaking poss out there with them..lol..fantastic life..one I'd have loved to have followed. But my life took different direction...

i personally think the pandemic has been the biggest form of government concocted BS this century, id love to be a ride owning showman, and id love to take rides out, the worst fears of the fairs disappearing is, the younger generations of showmens families arent interested anymore, they would rather sit with their eyes glued to their phones

I’ve been to many fairs in America, have filmed with a number of American showmen, have filmed a number of rides belonging to American showmen whilst under construction at factories in Europe. Out of interest, which of your fairs are a charter fair? Charter fairs are ones that date back hundreds of years and are protected in law having been granted by the monarchy. Several countries have charter fairs, but wasn’t aware you had them in America. It’s charter fairs that are specifically referenced in the opening sequence. There’s no mention of America not having any fairs.
