The form for me is kinda hard to tell exactly cuz of the sweater, but I see what's happening. Of course the form is a bit wonky for the first time (it's normal) but what I'd recommend is go through some progressions and maybe if you need some conditioning with weights, since you're struggling a bit to hold the position. Remember this is an isometric hold not a bent arm one but you'll get there. Good start without training! As always, stay safe! (Both during training and covid 😅)

That's basically an iron cross just need to have arms locked out completely. That shows how incredibly strong you are just to be able to hop on the rings and perform that without directly training for it.
@joeybmas14j
@joeybmas14j 3 жыл бұрын
Lol no, it's not an iron cross if your arms are bent smartass. If you know anything about Calisthenics or gymnastics straight arm Strength is completely different from bent arm. Once you bend your elbows it's not considered an Iron cross

@@tarekprivat2956 lol stfu I'm not spreading negative energy. Magnus mitbo is awesome I love the guy, but gymnastics feats are not ones to take light on. The problem I have with his comment is him saying "it's basically an iron cross without locked out" it's giving the person too much credit for not accomplishing the move itself. Magnus, the iron cross is very prone to cause injury. i know you're a hell of a athlete, but please take your time to progress through it. Start with trying to hold the forearm supported cross (put your hand through the straps, then hold the lower part of the ring with your forearm over the upper part - this decreases a lot of the lever length, making the exercise easier). Once you're very comfortable with that (>8s holds) start trying some holds with the false grip technique (but stay using the forearm support version for your main training sets). And don't forget to warm up before trying it (mainly shoulders and biceps - The injury risk lies in the shoulder joint and the biceps tendon). You obviously have a very strong biceps, but straight-arm ring movemrnts stresses the tendon a lot more than anything in climbing. Also add some ring turned out work in the end of your sessions (RTO hold, RTO dip, Supinated back lever). This will help you gain stability on the rings and strengthen the biceps tendon. Even taking the time to be safe, I recon you're gonna get it pretty fast.
@TwskiTV
@TwskiTV 3 жыл бұрын
Other good RTO exercises: Supinated german hang, Supinated skin the cat, RTO push-ups. Use them as complementary exercises, not going for max reps/max difficulty, or you'll slow down your tendons recovery time too much and increase injury risk, which is exactly the opposite we want with them.

Hi Magnus, I trained for this and did an iron cross in gymnastic competition at university. Yes super important is the trick with the wrapping the 'heel' of your hand over the ring which is the false grip you describe. It is essential to reduce the lever arm(distance) and eliminate the otherwise impossible torque on your wrists. Training wise, best to avoid destroying yourself by repeated attempts in the vertical plane on the real rings. instead you have to go really specific. I was amazed after returning to university after a christmas break with around 3weeks of focused training using a simple apparatus i set up in my backyard, a ramp at around 45deg. and i lay on my back on a skateboard and with some ropes and handles i trained the specific motion and muscle strength required to pull myself up and lower down again, remember the eccentric training is very effective and is closer to what you do lowering into the cross. regular approach for strength training sets of around 8-12. fewer if you make the ramp steeper. I think it was really important to use a good form. When i returned to university on my first hop up into the rings i did my first iron cross. That was incredible, i simply had the correct muscles firing. At that time in our gym training we would finish every session with a set of 10 x 'muscle-ups' that entry move from hanging below the rings thru a dip and into the seated position above the rings. This exercise trains the specific strength and technique of the 'false' wrist grip essential. It is a technique, not a cheat. and also essential to avoid stupid injury. However, i did fail to reinforce that initial training on my ramp and although i succeeded in doing the cross in my next competition, i was suffering dreadful tedonitis in my elbows, it got so far that i could no more turn the key or the door handle to enter my apartment. It was awful at that time that injury. That was all in a former life for me 25years ago. I have since discovered rock climbing and the tendonitis thing has never completely gone away, and i am super careful to avoid specific exercise which can inflame my elbows tendons. So please take care to use the best form possible in your own attempts. Anyone who is not already in super lean condition and comfortable with multiple muscle-ups should really avoid messing with even attempting a cross because it will only result in injury. For me it was only my elbows, but i guess for anyone with a shoulder weakness this is gonna be a no go. Thanks and best wishes with keeping up your great channel and tackling always these tough challenges.

I did a bit of top-rope climbing back in 2007-2009, and as an engineer, have been working on my career fulltime since. Started watching your videos since my fiance and I are looking at trying something to get fit, and bouldering is definitely something that we've talked about. I'd be interested in more content around training, weight management if you do any, and how to gauge your level in the beginning, and how to push yourself to get better.

I really enjoy your videos and my favorites have been the ones in collaboration with Juji and Tom. I know there's some drama going on there, but hope to see them again in your channel or you in Juji's. Take care man, keep up with the great content.

Awesome work for first tries!! I would recommend shortening the lever with putting your forearm through the strap at the point where the ring lays on the strap and gripping the ring after that (pretty hard to describe) Attach the strap at a point where you are able to hold it quite good. That way you can work the exact position with straight arms and decent intensity so that you are able to accumulate enough time under tension I could send a video on how to do that if you are interested :) Edit: And definitely wear a pullover or longsleeve doing that. Otherwise you will cut your forearms

Those honeycomb holds at the 9:00 mark are awesome. A cool episode would be doing a holds manufacturer tour. Or actually tours of any climbing gear company!

I like when the music stops, no matter what it reveals or not. I agree with one of the fellow commentators, that it is a nice touch. Keep on rocking. ..lol

Great video Magnus! Would love to see more outdoor bouldering in Norway. Maybe that's something you could do now while things are still closed? Also would love to see more ninja warrior with Anton once you can travel again. Commented that during the last slab, now I see there is some outdoor climbing coming. Nice! :)
