I didn't realize you still had the original connector plate on the back of the speaker. Those things are loaded with Steel parts. You are bottlenecking that upgrade significantly. At this point you are hearing about 40 to 50% of what it brings to the table. If you get all of that out of the signal path the difference will be very significant.

plan on doing the kit soon. found the values online and will get them from parts expres and save some money. it seems like your method is more complicated than what i anticipated doing. how is the new sound?

No more highs going in and out as you move your head towards and away from the speakers. The cancellation of the frequencies from the drivers overlapping is gone. The highs sound like highs and now the bass panel mid-bass punch has gone way up. You'll actually hear more richness in the bass frequencies. These speakers will still benefit having a subwoofer though.
