The product datasheet actually says you should us flat, strong magnets for the best results, so I'd think rare earth magnets will probably work the best.

So...the more coats the stronger the magnetic power...??? Or is there other paint/primer that can do it with less coats & cost more??
@stacymcintyre17966 жыл бұрын
It seems that the ones that didn't stick so well had issues because they weren't flat. Did you put those on other surfaces, like a refrigerator, to see if there was any difference? I don't think it was the paint was the issue.

Did you try using neodymium magnets?
@Rafamantra3 жыл бұрын
How did it work with weight?
@dm48596 жыл бұрын
Maybe the really good 'latex/primer in one' creates more of a barrier than some other paints would, and thus the magnets are not sticking as well as they would otherwise.

Could it be that your blue paint is wrong for this????
@tomrevere90918 жыл бұрын
Why not just paint a piece of sheet metal. Same price; better result. Could be cheaper if you go to a steel yard and buy scrap. its a dollar a pound where I live.
@alfredarogers51978 жыл бұрын
+Tom Revere - That's really a great idea Tom. Never thought of that. Thanks
@dm48596 жыл бұрын
And if you paint dry-erase paint, you can have both without all the primer. (Maybe)

I noticed four years ago you asked a very good question about the sheet metal it seems like your question makes all the sense in the world and I noticed maybe I missed it there was never any reply from the person that made the video. that troubles me sometimes I wonder that strikes of arrogance thank you for the good question because it made me go in a better Direction I think thanks again

great video. I was wondering if the magnetic ABC letters would hold up well.
@bonitajuanita9 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The ABC magnets to stay up but they can't hold anything up. My son was very upset that he couldn't hang up his latest drawing the his letter M. But they do stay up on their own.

its not so much that those magnets are too heavy but that they are too weak. Use Neodymium Magnets.

Great Video, very helpful. Here is my project/question. I have a cat who doesn't know how to behave herself. She is very curious and tries to go into our basement when she's not allowed. I was planning on painting the sides of walls that lead down to the basement with this paint. Then I wanted to take a 3foot by 3foot board, putting that craft magnetic strips on either side, to make the board stay in place. Hannah (the cat) is strong, but I can't see her moving a magnetized 3 foot wooden board. Do you think it will be easy to remove the paint from the wall when my parents are ready to sell the house?
@BroadwayBaby10138 жыл бұрын
+Broadway Baby Also, 7 coats? Do you think I would need that many coats for such a small space? It's only a 2inch strip on either side of the doorway

Is the frame of your chart attached magnetically?
@bonitajuanita8 жыл бұрын
+Gregory Nasrallah No its secured on the back with similar attachments you find on picture frames.

Thank you.

You are welcome!
@gregorynasrallah17558 жыл бұрын
The reason why I asked is as follows. If you had painted the wall with magnetic paint, you might have been able to mount the frame using magnets attached to it. It would make it easier to keep it level.
@bonitajuanita8 жыл бұрын
+Gregory Nasrallah Oh absolutely! That would work! If you can paint the walls with the magnetic paint (we couldn't) that would be so much easier! and it would look identical too.

Magnetic tape is junk. It was a huge waste of money for me. Also, magnet has to be perfectly flat to work. Thank you for the demo! I'm going to use the magnetic paint for wooden puzzles I made!

+Mike H - cost the same in Canada , $48 plus 15 % taxes on top of that .
@EfOneAddict8 жыл бұрын
+Mike H It's $19.99/quart-ish here in the U.S.(Home Depot). They call it a quart but, technically, a quart is 32 ounces and this can is just 30 ounces. I should generalize the same way and just pay them $17.

you should test neodymium magnets!

+Os GV "Rare Earth" Magnets, like you're mentioning, can be thrown straight up, away from the surface of Earth and they'll orbit between the 2 magnetic poles of the planet... If she has anything electronic on the other side of a foot thick wall, it'l fry it.

There is a brand call "Chalknetic", their magnetic chalkboard paper come with a few neodymium magnets.

Did you know this paint contains lead? I purchased a can of this paint but didn’t use it immediately. When I was ready to make a magnetic chalk board for my daughter’s bedroom I read the full instructions and realized I needed a second can. I went to Lowes to purchase an additional can and was told it was no longer sold because of the lead content. I checked the manufacture website which did not list lead anywhere. However, when I downloaded the technical data sheet it contained a warning to wear a respirator if you sand this paint to prevent lead exposure. I decided to return the can I purchased. I’m not comfortable putting lead paint in my home. You should add a warning to your video for other parents interested in using this paint since the manufacture buries the lead danger in a technical data sheet that most people never see.
@clifftarrance10 ай бұрын
This product does not contain lead. The lead warning on the label pertains to if you are sanding or removing *old* potentially leaded paint to prepare the surface on which you will apply the magnetic paint.

A better solution to create a magnetic chalkboard is to paint the chalkboard paint on a metal sheet, but it still take a lot of time and hassle to wait for a few coat to dry. Now there is a even better solution is to buy a roll of "magnetic chalkboard contact paper" on Amazon. Just search the brand: "Chalknetic".
@stanhon11447 жыл бұрын
this is oil based primer, smells sucks. and the worst is it is dark black color. how you can cover up with white !! need 11 coats .... finally I purchase Candy Magnetic paint, which is light grey color, and it is very heavy. 3 coats is good enough
@CHARICEFAVORITES9 жыл бұрын
FYI: Magnets REPEL other magnets (has to do with positive and negative ions). So, if you are going to use this paint on a surface, you will want to use metal items, not magnetic items for this to work as it should.
@bonitajuanita9 жыл бұрын
Pat Faurote You are so right magnets do repel other magnets but this paint contains iron fragments distributed throughout the paint that the magnets stick to. So only magnets will work on this paint.

Have the information before you do these things. Your uncertainty (paint cost, etc.) really damages your credibility.
