There are small fans you can add to helmets to help with heat. I've taken to trying to use hard hat inserts on helmets to make them a little more comfortable and it allows better air flow, especially when you add the tiny fans. Doesn't eliminate heat, but does reduce it.

I haven't been to a con in over a decade now, but as a former 501st member, I don't think you stressed the sweating part quite strongly enough. :-D This was a great watch, I still love seeing other folks' costumes and creative processes even though I don't get out to do this stuff myself anymore. Thanks! Looking forward to the next installment!

great video, look forward to the rest. similarly I started a Jim Lee era Magneto costume years ago, out of foam and a slush cast helmet that remains unfinished. the paint for the helmet just refused to co=operate so it's lingered on a shelf. maybe time to pull it back out.

Those SKS Prop guys are everywhere!! Big fan of those fellows! I have not tried a helmet yet on my CR-10, but I plan to try a cyberpunk 2077 helmet very soon, THANK YOU for the inspiration. Excellent costume, great helmet build.

I have a couple questions, how long did the helmet take to 3d print? And also, If you don't have access to Metalcast, would any metallic Car paint do?

hey uncle jessy, was hoping to get some pointers, i know this is a late comment considering this video has been out for a long while now, im printing a magneto mask and am having trouble trying to get the measurements down, i measured my head near the brow area and the circumference is about 24 in, and need to figure out how to scale it to match considering my software only does mm. any help?

Hi, quick question: what would be the best (and most newbie friendly) software for scaling helmets like this to make sure they fit? I've seen your video about cosplay calipers and also the one from the original caliper 'inventor' but I found the software he recommended (netfabb) very clunky to use. Is there any program where you can just open your model and easily get a distance measurement between two points on the inside of the helmet?
@UncleJessy
@UncleJessy 4 жыл бұрын
I wish it was that simple. I also made a video called helmet scaling that shows how you can slice a thin part of the helmet. Print that as a test piece. You can use meshmixer to make the slice which might be easier that netfab

Awesome video -- looking forward to the rest of the series! I've always wanted to make a full-body armor cosplay of some kind, but was always hesitant about going the fiberglass+bondo route back in the day. Now that large format 3D printing is here, there is no excuse for me not to try it! I think I'm going to start planning my next build now... :D

I know the feeling of not finishing a pepakura helmet...had a Master Chief helmet for years waiting to sand, until the day I gave up and threw it away...lol now with 3d print, pepakura its dead.

Is bondo absolutely necessary for sanding the top of a helmet?
@UncleJessy
@UncleJessy 5 жыл бұрын
Nope not at all. I used Bondo Spot putty which was totally different than regular bondo. Spot putty is useful for those little spots. I primarily use Woodfiller to smooth/fillout major gaps

Jessy, love your videos. The helmet is great. I was looking at your other videos; do you have anything that discusses resin and supports and how to deal with the little nubs left behind? With all of the printing that you do, I was hoping that you had some sort of tutorial on post processing and how to deal with all of that. Maybe something on the correct Chitubox settings to deal with the supports to make them easier to handle post printing but still provide good support during the printing process. Thanks for everything and keep up the great work.
