It's really not, this is a made-up story. Here's a tip, look up her name and filter out all results of 2023, you'll see that no such person ever existed! If such a story was real, her death would have led to a real international conflict, since she was a foreign subject. If a foreigner suddenly disappears or gets killed their embassy has a legal duty to find them or to transport them home for burial. A murdered person cannot be moved unless the killer is identified and processed in the justice system. Keep in mind that this story supposedly happened in 1907, before WW1 and the world was tense with political issues. WW1 began because an Austrian was killed in Bosnia, so the death of foreigners can cause serious conflicts.

I liked how Edouard, despite being such a simple character, was able to fully convey the emotion of envy so flawlessly. This man has no shame (you can see very clearly at the end too). @catherinelink2 жыл бұрын
Sadly true. My heart sank too when I saw her going alone to confront the guy. She didn't even open her mouth to berate him but, in the end, it wouldn't have mattered. The fact that she was better than him was "provocation" enough. We are in the 21st century, yet this cultural thing our mothers/grandmothers taught us about fearing men and bowing to their wishes lest we want violence to ensue is still painfully accurate even a century later. This shouldn't have happened, and the guy should have answered for this crime. Beautiful animation, indeed.

At first I thought that Edouard was "just" a reasonably gealous man, as he could have been afraid that Magnifica would have been approached by older men in the gala who could potentially embarass her or saying something wrong. Instead the story developes such in a unpredictable way that got me literally glued to the laptop and until the last seconds of the short I thought that Magnifica gave him the best lesson ever, by staying in silence and almost pitying him for his narrowness and horrible soul. I imagined her going back to the luxurious hall with people all amazed by her sheer talent, narrating her story in the future years to perhaps a younger herself (a daughter, a son? Maybe a niece?) like closing the narrative arch of this beatiful piece of art. Instead the end... it is just too real, too common for so many poor girls and women and I'm feeling a mix of emotions between sadness, anger, pain and disheartenment. This is more than an amazing work from everyone involved in the production of Magnifica: a political statement and an elogy for talented girls and women who were been stopped in the pattern of patriarchal "modi" and profound envy.

As a spanish speaker and harp player, I enjoyed this a lot! The hands were animated wonderfully, and the posture was actually correct! The sounds didn’t always align with the animation, but thats ok! The end credit revealed so much. Thank you for this video and for sharing Pacifica’s story. 💕

A few months ago my ex fiancé tried to kill me while I was attempting to nap in my home. Reading the context at the end of this animation absolutely broke my heart and I had to pause for a moment to process it. Thank you for honoring Pacifica and for calling attention towards victims of IPV whose lives were cut short.

I feel so helpless & brokenhearted just like this crime happened today in 2023. 🌷🌎🌷 We as women are treated like 3rd class citizens in this world,... & in some backwards-wack cultures, livestock has more worth than we do. 🌷🌎🌷 I’m happy to hear that hate crimes towards women “cold cases” like what I just finished watching is finally being resolved & dealt with right now,... Much thanks to the “ME TOO” association. 🌷🌎🌷 Everso grateful & thankful that the UN Political Axis are involved as well. MANY 🌷🌎🌷 BLESSINGS

Not including the sound of a gunshot only made this all the more impactful. It left it on an air of suspense. Yes, from the text at the end we know what happened, but we feel what happened in such a more somber way than if there had been the sound of the gunshot. Beautiful animation. Thank you.

But one that we must remember. Instead of hating on one another's talents and hard work, appreciate them for their accomplishments. Embrace their art for the purity that is embodies. And for crying out loud, lets just love each other. Without hate. Without bitterness and envy or jealousy. Just pure love. The kind that seeks to protect our partners and not hurt them.

Wow, you guys did a masterful job of making me uneasy the entire film; Edoard wasn't too overt, but when her friend left her alone with him my heart sank. I just knew that he wouldn't accept her success, and sure enough, he decided that his ego was more important than a woman's life. Heartbreaking; thank you for sharing a story I had never heard and celebrating a life cut tragically short

i think this is the first short film animation i’ve seen from gobelins that was directly based on a true story, and i’ve seen probably almost a hundred by them. this was a beautiful representation of the true story. the animation style, the characters and their emotions as well as the animal during the harp scene was beautifully conducted. it left me wanting for more until the end part, because of its reality i thought that i don’t think i wanted anymore because it made it felt unreal if you know what i mean. i’d rather the story be false than true because the truth hurt. a lot. edit: i remembered i watched that very short short inspired by walt disney and his “feud” with another female illustrator/animator (think her name was something along the lines of rose)

As soon as he exposed and pulled for his gun, I thought, "You wouldn't." But he did, and I'm wondering what made him so angry. Envious? They played together, but despite the beautiful music, they weren't in harmony; he was playing with her, yet he was not with her. They've long since passed, and while he tried to wipe her existence out of history, I can assure you where it counts; it hasn't been forgotten. May she rest in peace, and may he rest in pieces.
