Hurrem caught Suleiman's attention because she wasn't like every other woman in that palace. She thought for herself, fought for what she wanted and for what she believed in. Hurrem was smart, funny, fun to be around, loyal and she took the time to talk to Suleiman. The other women in the show only cared about themselves and no one else. Hurrem was fiercely loyal to Suleiman and her family. The others only cared about themselves. It's not hard to understand why he loved her so much.

All Mahidevran does is cry and whine. She also brought Mustafa into her problems and made him responsible for her feelings. She always tells Hurrem to abide by the rules of the harem and to know her place. But when the tables are turned, she starts crying and complaining to Valide Sultana. Suleiman was bored with Mahidevran and looking for someone new. He didn't belong to Mahidevran although she acted like he did. He chose Hurrem. He always went back to Hurrem. I hate watching everyone feel sorry for Mahidevran and make excuses for her. She went out of her way to make life unbearable for Hurrem for years. When Hurrem does it in return, everyone is all upset. SMH.

You're so right ... mahidrevan only cared about herself ... actually not even mustafa. She used him and caused his death. She bullied, lied and schemed as well as twisted her every wrongdoing to suit herself or to get her own way. Unfortunately for her was that Hureem's more intelligent and wittier than her and was always one step ahead of her. Hureem's lucky and had suleiman's love because of Hureem's character ... kinder, more compassionate and smarter. Mahidrevan's rather stupid. She got away so far because gulfem and the other women in the harem only thought about themselves to live a good life. None of them really loved suleiman as a man which Hureem did. That included his sisters who'er selfish and greedy .... Valide sultan did love suleiman because he's her son. But she wanted to be able to control him and take charge of his life and so she's jealous of Hureem just like any mother-in-law. 😅

Every clip I see of Mahidevran reminds me of the poems Suleiman wrote for Hurrem AND one quote he said to his sister. They explain exactly why he fell in love with her: Her passion, loyalty, fighting spirit, charm, allure, scent, beauty.... she was gentle when she needed to be but a fighter when she had to be. More than anything it was her loyalty to him that kept him reeled in. People act like Mahidevran was a victim, and in a way she was...... but this woman wrote 90% of her destruction and folks need to come to terms with that.

Although Hurrem received discrimination and cruel treatment from the royal family, Hurrem still taught her children respect, loyalty, and never instilled in her children's minds hatred towards their siblings or other members of the royal family. Funny thing, with the exception of Sulieman’s hildren, sisters, and cousins- mahidevran, valide, and Gulsem are still considered slaves under ottoman law. @@raklajju Wrong. She was a Christian slave who later converted to Islam upon entering the harem/mothering the sultan's kids. A Muslim woman cannot be enslaved, yes, but Ottomans weren't following the religion, they created their own rules and did as they pleased. They would bring kidnapped, Christian girls to the harem and forcibly convert them as they were potential mothers to the sultan's kids. Enslaving and owning concubines in general is forbidden in Islam, especially if the slaves are/become Muslims, but the Ottomans didn't care.

The way people back up Hurrem after all the cunningness and wickedness she had is so disappointing. She already made Mahidevran's life so miserable for 10 years and still had no mercy or even a bit of humanity in her to stop. She was a wicked witch.
