For those not familiar with hogs, that is a full sized adult hog. Not a small pig. Very hard to kill, hard to break that particular bone. Appreciate you RF. Haven't lost a Hog or Deer since following and changing my arrows. Single bevel 200 g Grizzly with 100 g insert. 600 total grain arrow weight.

Ive discovered that shooting arrows between 500gr and 600gr penetrate so much better with my 53 lb bow than anything the archery shops were selling me on for most of my life. THANK YOU TROY! What I dont understand is why most of the youtube so called experts are so set against people like me and a large percentage of the archery world having the information youre demonstrating . They all seem to try to sell us on 80lb bows shooting mouse arrows. I will never buy a 2k dollar bow or one above 60 lb. A lighter poundage bow benefits greatly from heavier arrows. With a 55lb bow and 550 gr arrows I dont need to be hospitalized with a torn rotator cup. Please ignore the self proclaimed elites of the archery world that the rest of us are supposed to bow too and not question their superior all knowing knowledge. Keep up the good work man!

Science! There is nothing else like this available for archers to study their tools on the net. I know a lot of guys seem to enjoy hunting concrete blocks and oil barrels and that's ok. We can make nice BBQ's out of them and the rest of us can bring the meat to the party. Valuable information, thank you!

This reminds me of that necropsy you did with the quatered away pig where the arrow went through all those ribs and buried in the skull. I hate that KZbin will make money off of your content that's demonirized and you're the one that puts all the effort in. I like your shit, so I promote your shit everywhere I see the opportunity and I'm thankful for Ed Ashby's work and for your taking up the mantle and continuing to further study using the tools that we have. Maybe one day I'll have the opportunity to teach you how to fish lol

Inertia is resistance to movement. The lighter system has less momentum. Cutting the trachea inside the chest wall has similar effect as a double lung perforation. No air is getting where it needs to go. Great shot placement in darkness.👍👍

I really can't wait to test these out in my Barnett XS380 crossbow with a about 500 grain bolt set-ups. Between bears and deer here in Jersey should be very interesting.

Troy, Thanks for doing these necropsies it does help me because I dont have much in the way for testing medium up here in PA(dont have close to that many wild pigs yet). I know what a pain being demonetized(from my own channel) is especially when you film and edit the videos just want to say thank you for that its much appreciated to us that use these videos to make us all more lethal. Now all that being said I do like these Magnus SBs now I have a question would you go with these or a 200 gr. evolution wide cut? I ask because I really want to get something ordered to start shooting with them before summer and busy season since it is my first year bowhunting this will all be on a 250 spine with stock inserts. Ideally I would like the RF SBs because of angle of attack but you need to get on Tuffhead about that lol. Also with the magnus have you tested the one with the Blade cutouts (breaks) I would be curious if its even nastier.

Man this stuff is so interesting it's like science class and physics all in one. There is just so many variables was the pig moving up down away towards you was the muscles contracted or relaxed etc. The list goes on and on. I do believe the good dr is correct with the 650 grains given good arrow flight etc. What do you think is a good weight for crossbow bolts?
@RanchFairy
@RanchFairy 4 ай бұрын
I just got a SWAT X1 from Killer Instinct. Shooting the Sirius Phoenix bolts with a 110 grain steel insert 150 grain points / broadhead seems to be the magic number for ACCURATE FLIGHT with broadheads. Roughly 500 grains. If it is inaccurate or flies sideways but it's 700 grains......no bueno!! Look up "Ranch Fairy Crossbow tuning" on you tube. One of my buddies Matt (Draggin' deer Outdoors) has a whole series with multiple different X Bow platforms, broadhead testing etc. I only have one X bow, right now. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXSre4SibLipas0si=vluoc1Ub3Ey6iKUQ

May have had some arrow deflection from the bone strike that caused it to miss far lung? The heart on a deer is much lower in the chest cavity than many hunters think. Shooting at the heart from ground level, seated in a ground blind for example, where the deer is perfectly perpendicular, it may be almost impossible to center the heart without encountering major shoulder bone "stuff". From an elevated position or quartering away, much better chance of a heart shot. Whacked a doe last week right before the season ended. Quartering away, arrow exited the "vital V" on the far side. Almost zero blood trail, even on a double lung hit, shot was just a little high, but she fell within sight at 75 yards on camera. Like you say, blood trails are over-rated and unpredictable for sure, but if you arrow enters the danger zone, most of the hunting happens before the shot. Keep the demonetized videos coming.

I'm proud that i was able to view this b4 it was demonotized. So what happened to that shaft could have happened if it was replaced with 30" of rebar. But the rebar would have been bent with a 60* angle. The carbon is put in a pivot point & can't defend itself. At least it broke well down the shaft & not just behind the insert like 1000's of arrows across the country all fall. 😮
@RanchFairy

Thanks for watching. To clarify. This video will remain up. But it is demonitized by the platform because of the bones and meat, blood, etc. However, I post a bunch of these because I believe its great information.

I put many long posts in the ground years ago. They r holding up well. No fancy equipment. Just a 5" ice fishing auger. The key is that if u have 2 blades on it then it will stop spinning. The smallest of roots will do that. However if u take one of the 2 blades off it will continue cutting until you are down 3 feet in about 20 seconds. It continues with little effort. Just an analogy for a single bevel. But I can't think of one for the Valkyrie Jagger system. It just continues & the only thing I can think of is that many similar heads hitting something hard just break the shaft @ the end ofvthe insert. They don't have that long Centerpin going back deep inside the shaft which is also one piece with the broadhead that just simplifies things with a one piece system. Not to mention that the tolerances are so tight which leads to perfect arrow flight. 😮

You often use 2 blades broadheads, do you use 3 blades broadhead? People say that 3 blades broadhead has better penetration than 2 blades broadhead. What's your opinion? Can you do an experiment on animals to compare their penetration between 3 blades broadhead and 2 blades broadhead?
@RanchFairy
@RanchFairy 9 ай бұрын
I actually have a three blade in the ranch fairy story at Sirius Archery. It is designed for penetration, long, 1" wide and built of one piece of steel. Hit bone or a shoulder blade.....then the results speak for themselves. In the 30 year Ashby report data (5,000 data points analyzed) three blades were the worst performer in "plan B" hits. I just don't plan for perfect. I've never been that good. In normal hits, normal angles, three blades are fine and very efficient.

Ok, so heavy arrows are great, i get it. But is there a point at which they slow down the arrow speed so much that good ethical hunting becomes impossible? Say, if my compound bow produces 240fps with a 400 grain arrow but only say 170fps with a 600+ grain arrow, am i not better off from ethical point of view shooting a 370 grain arrow and hoping for no plan B than shooting an arrow at 170 fps and always getting plan B and sometimes plan C because the animal moves or because i miscalculate the distance adjustment by 1 yard and the arrow hits 5 inches lower than i intended. And speaking of my personal situation, i am limited to hunting hogs only, so we're talking effectiveness on hogs.
@RanchFairy
@RanchFairy 11 ай бұрын
Mass never leaves the arrow system Speed erodes MUCH faster with lighter arrows. AND You can never predict, animal to animal, the amount of jump, nor the direction. I have a "time to target" video. Shows many different animals jumping or some don't. And a couple that get completely out of the way - FAST arrows. Food for thought. It is the one puzzle we won't solve. Every single shot is 100% unique

Troy I know I’m going to get assaulted for this post. However I really don’t give a crap. If you don’t get a pass through,what the hell are you going to do to figure out how long you wait before tracking?? I swear to god these young people have no clue of what actually happens when you hit an animal. All I can say from experience is if you see your arrow before impact and no pass through, you need to change “something”. All arrows will pass through if they are sharp and miss solid bones however hitting the Scapula isn’t even an issue. Thick skin is what I call it. It’s also where I aim Every Time. Yes Every Time

The only people who are arguing with you are the light arrow mechanical users. All they want is the flattest shooting arrows with a legal no bow or arrow tuning system. I was there at one time myself. Only took one shot to make me throw all that crap away! Imagine shooting a deer and hitting it high in the spine and then hitting it with a second arrow perfectly behind the shoulder,giving the deer all night to expire,only to realize that deer was still alive 12 hours later!! Them G D mechanicals put me in that position and I had to physically cut the deers throat 😢😢😢 Mechanicals should only be allowed in cross bows that have all the power to effectively make them work ! Also if you or your friend shoots an animal,the FIRST thing you need to do is get the arrow and see what the blood looks like for a proper decision on WHEN to track the animal. You unethical vertical bow mechanical “so called hunters” don’t get the pass throughs to make an ethical decision. I don’t blame you…I blame the Industry Marketing. Any one who hasn’t been brought into this sport when fixed blades were the norm. Haven’t a clue. Seriously,you’re all victims of misinformation and unethical marketing! That is sooo sad
