Interesting! I am using MagSafe, and I like it just fine! The alignment really helps with placement and ease of use.

For sure! It's basically all I use any more! I've plugged in my iPhone 15 maybe once?

Appreciate the video! You should also bring up the difference with both concerning heat. I've seen that while the Magsafe might be a slower charge in the beginning, it picks up and charges about the same rate as the Qi2 after that 50% is reached and with less heat. I personally will always worry about heat when charging wirelessly. Hate to have a new phone and the battery health depletes even before the year.

As a life-long Apple user and admitted fan boy, I’ve never known the difference. You did an absolute masterful job of explaining this. Truly a great job. Thank you for making this video.

The other issue with nonmagnetic charging is that misalignment of the device and the charger can greatly increase the amount of heat generated during the charging process. This heat in turn can significantly degrade the device’s battery over time. Since MagSafe and Qi2 ensure perfect alignment of the charger and device, the heat generated during wireless charging can be kept to a minimum which helps ensure battery longevity.

I would prefer Qi2 if I hadn’t recently just bought a MagSafe stand. I found out about Qi2 after that sadly. I would prefer to support open standards as much as possible. I’m glad they added the improvements from MagSafe into Qi2 since I believe that MagSafe is an awesome technology. I wish USB would add MagSafe features for phone and PC charging. Maybe that’s patented by Apple which is why we don’t see it being copied anywhere else.

thanks for the info, I have the Anker cube which is MagSafe vs the new one that just came out which is slimmer but qi 2. Does that mean it doesn't manage heat as well even though it has those vents? Also the phone won't remember which charger it was on with these so not as good. Also the new one has a charging brick that doesn't have folding prongs so maybe I'll pass.
@AppleInsider10 ай бұрын
It shouldn't change speed or heat but I'd lean towards the MagSafe one between the two.

How do you setup different automations when connected to different Magsafe chargers? Is the NFC only exposed via Standby Mode feature or can I run Shortcuts for each Magsafe charger? I have a seperate NFC tag placed on my night stand next to the Magsafe puck at just the right alignment but I place the iPhone any other direction, the iPhone won't scan the NFC tag..

Nice video. Would you recommend using a QI2 charger in a car? I am considering the updated ESR Halolock wireless car charger with QI2. I'm on the fence though about heat concerns.
@AppleInsider11 ай бұрын
If you're worried about heat, don't pick this one up. I'd recommend the ESR HaloLock with MagSafe. That one has active cooling where the Qi2 one does not (yet). My guess is that they will add a fan on the next version.

Hey there! Is the iPhone 13 mini now capable to fast wirelessly charge after the update to 17.2 to the MagSafe or Qii 2 chargers at 15w available in the market?

something that people don't realize is that now all magsafe accessories like wallets, stands, etc would be compatible with android phones... and that would end with more brands releasing compatible accessories, so it's a win-win.

Ok, I need someone’s help here! What about APPLE MagSafe Battery Pack in relation to Qi2? I know Apple stopped selling it, but you can still find it across different third party sellers. Would the Apple Magsafe Battery Pack work well on iPhone 15Pro? My phone is only 4mo and my battery dies around 10pm. I don’t even use it so much during the day but it still drains the battery so fast for a new phone.

I bought the Anker Qi2 10k battery pack and going Qi2 now on since it’s compatible with Android and iPhone and can lend to a family or friend no matter what phone they have as long as it supports Qi2. Also bought the ESR MagSafe case since the magnets are incredibly strong to hold that heavy 10K battery pack and holds onto like a champ since the regular magnets in MagSafe cases are very weak and battery pack falls off just putting it into my pocket

Coming in the software update to iOS 17.2 or later, all the iPhone 12 models don't have the Qi2 wireless charging compatibility due to their earlier built-in magnetic wireless charging before the iPhone 13 models, iPhone 14 models and iPhone 15 models.

Haha, you only remember something I said last time. It’s not just an NFC chip. It means it can communicate with the iPhone. It also has a reader. Which the iPhone can send out information to the MagSafe. One example of this, MagSafe can transfer battery status to iPhone and controller the battery bank to output or stop outputting current. I guess another video? And MagSafe is developed by Apple. That means Apple can easily upgrade MagSafe to 20W when next year iPhone. Qi2 will only be a step down option.

Possibly here at launch, but we're only seeing big brands too. The ESR car charger is only $35 (plus additional $5 off with coupon) which I think is fair. The Qi version with 7.5W of power is $29.99 (plus $5 coupon off) and the MagSafe version is $85! Though the MagSafe version comes with the power adapter.

It doesn’t beg the question. It RAISES the question. Begging the question is a logical fallacy wherein the premise of an argument assumes the result. Please STOP misusing this phrase. You clearly don’t know what it means.
