In this video, MagVent® Man shows you how to install MagVent’s MV-90 magnetically aligned dryer vent coupling in Dryerbox’s® DB 350. The DB 350 is a heavy gauge metal box for new construction situations involving a 2X4 wall. The Dryerbox comes in several models, all of which work with the MV-90. The DB 350 and DB 425 are for new construction situations involving a 2X4 and 2X6 walls, respectively. The RB 400 and RB 500 are for renovation situations where the drywall has already been hung, also 2X4 and 2X6 walls, respectively. If possible, it is a good idea to use a 2X6 wall behind the dryer. It’s a busy part of the house possibly having hot and cold water, drainage DWV system, electrical 120V and 240V, gas piping, and, of course, the dryer vent system, which should be 4” rigid metal pipe inside the wall cavity. Four inch rigid metal pipes have never fit well in the 3 1/2” stud bays of 2X4 walls. The bane of contractors, appliance installers, HVAC contractors, and drywallers alike. A 2X6 wall (or furred out 2X4 wall) will save you from having to oval the rigid metal pipe and give you more room for your other services as well.
Video Highlights:
0:55 Locating the Dryerbox
2:15 Packing out stud with 2X4 and 1/2” drywall scrap to shift the Dryerbox over 2”.
2:59 Use of adjustable elbow to shift position of MV-90 for preexisting Dryerbox installations.
3:55 Mounting the Dryerbox to the studs.
4:01 Marking position of the MV-90.
4:18 !Important Warning! For most installations where the Dryerbox back is against the wall of adjoining room: DO NOT USE INCLUDED 1” SCREWS. Use instead 1/2” self-tapping screws to avoid puncturing the drywall in the adjoining room.
4:23 Mounting the MV-90 bracket with 1/2” self-tapping screws.
4:27 Engage bracket tabs in mounting slots on the sides of the MV-90 to attach.
4:35 Ovalling pipe to go in the DB 350.
4:47 Rounding back the ovalled pipe and partially ovalling the MV-90 port to make the connection.
5:20 Fire caulking the rigid metal pipe/Dryerbox interface.
5:40 Tip for caulking the difficult to reach place behind the vent pipe. Use gloved hand.
6:03 Marking Dryerbox radii on cardboard template.
6:55 Marking and cutting drywall.
7:42 Trimming and caulking.
7:55 MagVent Mating!
8:05 Final install measuring 7/8” away from the wall.
8:18 Concluding remarks.

Great install video. I currently have a hose hanging from my ceiling that vents Thur the attic outside. I plan to strip the wall to stipends and install in between the studs like this product. Exceptional video and professional finish.

My dryer vents straight out. It is up against an outside wall of a very old house. 1915 aged house. Have alot of lint dust in the house and have had a repair man her multiple times still have lint dust. The washer and dryer and not even 3 years old. Bought the set new. The dryer sits out 3 inches more then the washer. Wish this box could lay on its side. Want to move th dryer to a different wall and move the washer also. But the box would still have to be on its side due to a bedroom above the laundry room. Love this old house. The pervious owners were very old and moved the laundry upstairs from the unfinished basement. Who ever did the work slapped it together. The washer has 2 different hook ups. 1 coming up through the floor that looks to be 60 yrs old. Also has a wall hook up. How ever that one I guess is for looks because it's not even plummed in to be used. Was nice shower when installing them to the newer wall hook up only to fnd out the floor hook up was the only working one when we turned the water on. Good times!!

I just installed my mv90 outside of a dryer box, because of a concrete ledge on the bottom corner of the floor behind the dryer (so it couldn't fit in the stud bay). It was simple to use even one tapcon screw on the mv90 positioning bracket to make it position right where it was needed! After that, the magvent linned up perfectly with my dryer duct! I should say to TEST MOVING THE DRYER IN **AND** OUT. Why? To test and retest both the brackets connection to the wall And To test the hold of ring clamp, holding the end of the magvent part ON THE DRYER. I emphasize this the way I do since I had to tighten to ring clamp on the dryer much tighter than I expected to achieve a solid hold. Anyways, when all is said and done, it really does work perfectly, and looks pretty damn good too. It's around $95 Canadian to get one of these, but so so worth it. Thanks for the fire caulk advice btw! I was just going to use foil duct tape alone before seeing this. Great video!

I'm getting ready to remodel my laundry room. The original installation has the dryer vent in the floor causing the dryer to be several inches away from the way. Since my vent goes down, not up as in the video, will this system work? I really like the magnetic link.

The MagVent MV-90 is designed for when the vent path takes a 90 degree turn to the side, up through the ceiling, or down through the floor such as in your case. The MV-90 is designed to be installed directly behind your dryer's vent, and can tolerate an offset in vent alignment of up to 3 inches. I encourage you to view our MV-90 installation video on our website! With your installation, the tail of the MagVent will be pointed straight down, and if you have a standard height dryer, then you should not need any additional rigid metal pipe to complete the installation. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions or if we may be of further assistance!

Is this pretty easy to pull apart the magnets, when you can't get behind the dryer. I've looked at a few videos and none of them shows this being pulled apart.

You need to leave a little extra flex to pull the dryer off the wall in order to separate the magnets. You don't want them to easily separate.

That's usually done for a 2x4(db-350) wall or using larger dryer tubing...I think the 2x6 version(db-400) isn't as oval as the 2x4 version.

Why didnt you " pack out " the other side of the box?
@kevpkelley
@kevpkelley 5 жыл бұрын
Just mounting the box to one side and the bottom makes a really solid attachment. We could have chosen to pack out from the other side, but I think it was closer to landing in the proper location on the left. So, to go from the other side would have required more layers of material. Thanks for watching.

...would have been geat if you were able to show the complete install up through the ceiling. I'm curious to know how everyone is getting the 4" duct through the top plate. I have metal stud framing and it's a real doozy getting the pipe into the tight space of the attic to vent through the roof. It also seems that it's almost impossible to adhere to the letter of the code when installing dryer ventsin an older these days... especially if you're laundry room isn't on an exterior wall 🤦‍♂

So not an air tight connection? is it safe for gas dryers ? (don't want carbon monoxide leaking) Also what about the magnets attracting bobby pins, pens, money, wouldn't that clog or cause the debris to help form a stop with the lint.(kind of like when there's a bend in flex piping or top mounted lint trap on the dryer) (if you take dryers apart you know there's almost always debris at the bottom of the top mounted lint trap) just some things to think about for the engineers. Would have like to see this as a fresh install where there is already finished walls, because I know it's twice as hard to install these boxes.
@customerservice9263
@customerservice9263 2 жыл бұрын
The connection is air tight and yes it is safe for gas dryers. As far as the magnets attracting bobby pins etc. , yes it is possible but the main lint trap should catch most of these items and we have yet to have any issues or customer complaints about this happening. If this were to be an issue, as you mentioned it happens with regular flex hose, the MagVent makes removal of a restriction a lot easier as you do not have to deal with getting behind the dryer to disconnect and reconnect the hose. We would love to shoot a video of an installation with the drywall already in place, and we hope to have that content available in the future. Thank you for your feedback.

@@customerservice9263 was just curious about that, I haven't ran into any of those yet. And my apologies was not trying to discredit it just wondering about that because, when I think about the carbon monoxide getting out, some of the people don't seal the vents sometimes so that's what I worry about it. A good product though!!! Good job I'm coming up with something so revolutionary for dryer installation.

The magnets actually release with 5-8 lbs of pull force. Sometime the flex hose slips off of the dryer vent, so we recommend wrapping the dryer vent with some aluminum tape to add texture for the hose clamp to grip.

Let's see, number cause of residential fires, so let's change the route of the vent from horizontal to vertical. Since they are now vented on the roof no one will ever see or think about it until it's too late.
@bryandiel6773
@bryandiel6773 3 жыл бұрын
@@cmmartti But builders started putting dryer vent runs through the roof instead of out the exterior wall. These vertical runs have more lint buildup because the ducting goes through the attic. the heat of the attic causes condensation in/on the duct causing mold and wet lint. Wet lint will clog a dryer vent. I wish my dryer was on an external wall!!
