Please react to Song “Krishna” from Colonial Cousins. The song is in English and calls for religious harmony. I say it should be world anthem. Colonial Cousins is an Indian duo, formed by singer Hariharan and singer-composer Lesle Lewis. The style is essentially fusion, with a lot of songs opening with recognisable Hindustani or Carnatic ragas and then segueing into a more pop style. They have received numerous awards, notably the MTV Asia Viewers' Choice Award, 1996, and the US Billboard's Viewers' Award, 1996. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXvZfGOapN1jla8

I felt so proud watching this. You were listening from the heart. Music really does not have a language. Mahesh Kale is a legend. He is the student of late Pandit Jeetendra Abhisheki one of the most legendary singer and composer of our Marathi culture. He and some others namely Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande, Balagandharva, Pandit Rahul Deshpande, P.L. Deshpande, Pandit Shrinivas Khale made Marathi Cinema, Drama and music rich. This category of music is something we call Natyasangeet in our culture. Just thought you should know. I myself being a younger generation wish the people in my generation and the entire world would listen to these heavenly voices. Falsetto is prohibited in indian classical singing. The song has to come from the nabhi kamalam ( the centre of your stomache near the navel it is the third chakra manipuraka) so that the entire range can be used for bringing about subtleties in the notes. In the head voice or in falsetto very difficult to bring the subtleties.

What is the highest note which you have ever heard by an indian singer?
@sagnikpaul18114 жыл бұрын
@@kaamdev810 most of the Indian classical musicians can reach 3 octaves easily. I once heard Kausiki Chakraborty hitting komal ga in the 2nd higher octave. In the same performance she hits Sa of lower octave. And she was still smiling. I bet she can go higher and lower than that.
@kaamdev8104 жыл бұрын
@@sagnikpaul1811 can you tell me the equivalent in European notations as I don't really understand indian musical scales..
@sagnikpaul18114 жыл бұрын
@@kaamdev810 yes. All vocalists prefer to sing in a specific scale. For example Manna Dey liked to sing in the scale of D, while Kaushiki Chakraborty likes to sing in the scale of C. Which means for Kaushiki Chakraborty the root note will be C. Of course she will sing in different keys when the song requires that. Now the normal octave (middle octave) is called "mudara", the lower octave is "udara" and the upper octave is "Tara". Most of the Indian Classical Musicians can hit all the notes of these 3 octaves consistently. And there are many of them who can reach beyond these octaves.

I really wish Rick learns the technicalities of Indian classical music. It will not just give him a deeper understanding and appreciate better, but will also open up a whole new world of senses and emotions to him, I promise. You guys definitely travel to Varanasi when you come to India and learn some music there. You don't come to India and not visit Varanasi. It doesn't happen! It's also the oldest city in the world.

Now that they have started reacting to classical dances and music, I find their reactions very superficial, barely scratching the surface. To understand Indian classical dance, music anything, a different sense is required. And most importantly a feeling of bhakti.

@@gargidhote Though I agree they have barely scratched the surface, I beg to disagree that their reactions are superficial. They are doing the best from how much they are able to understand and are genuinely trying to know more. Rick especially, understands music which helps him listen to it critically and although he doesn't understand it in depth, he surely understands what he doesn't understand yet. Now the sense and bhakti (devotion) you are talking about is not a prerequisite for appreciating it, but it is something the classical music and dance is supposed to generate in you by default. I understand where you are coming from and appreciate your love and understanding of classical music and therefore you are not ready to settle for anything less, but, dear, music reaction and music criticism are different things altogether. Not just classical stuff, I find their reactions pretty honest, and particularly respectful when it comes to the classical ones. :) The idea that classical is not for the masses isn't entirely true, has kept people away from it and denied it the wider respect it deserves. Having said that, as it spreads its reach, it is important to retain the very character of the art we see getting diminished with the disragard for the guru-shishya parampara (teacher-disciple tradition) and instant nature of classical performances these days.. with due respect to all the classical musicians out there. 🙏☺️

kudos guys !!! you guys really "listen"(not just hearing) to music and truly appreciate all forms of art viz.music,dance etc. with full devotion (aka attention) and having knowledge and passion for music and dance (may be western , but still , art has no language/region barrier) is the reason you guys "really enjoy" , and your expressions encourage your subscribers to post more like these.

What he does is " tarana" what we call in Hindustani classical vocal and it's commonly done by the people who possess such mastery. You should check out Rashid Khan, Ajoy Chakraborty (father of kaushiki Chakraborty), Ashvini Bhide Deshpande, Manjusha Patil and many others

Commenting for the first time on this channel, but I have been following all your videos, big fan! My wife's a musician (Hindustani classical vocalist), so I can relate to the feeling of being connected/transported to another dimension during one of these live concerts. If you get a chance, please listen (and react, if possible) to the late Pt Bhimsen Joshi, one of the stalwarts of Indian music. The clip I'm referring to is "Pt Bhimsen Joshi Miyan Ki Malhar". Miyan ki Malhar is an afternoon melody that evokes the characteristics of the monsoon season.
