Mahindra excels at borrowing a design from more established brands and then ruining it. Many renders were circulating on SM leading up to the unveiling of the Thar Roxx . Most were way better looking than what has now been revealed. The Thar Roxx is a mix and match of Armada & Wrangler. The grill does not excite me but one understands the compulsions for the change. The rear door handles look odd and the position is not the most convenient. The rear door and the roof-line look like an afterthought and the quarter glass does not work for me. The wipers appear flimsy for a Rs 15-20 L vehicle. The interiors look contemporary. However, overall the vehicle appears to be very Armada in quality from the outside. Hopefully seeing it in the flesh will be more reassuring.

People commenting should realise who Mahindra is targeting with the ROXX. It's been designed the way it is and has been given the features it has based on customer feedback and overall market observation. At least 80% of potential owners , if not more, would not take this thing off-road. They want the Thar for its presence and looks and would also like it to offer what the XUV700 does in terms of luxury and features. I'm one of those guys! I'd never go off-road but would love to buy the ROXX! What tipped the scales more in favour is the light coloured interior and the up-market features! For serious off-roaders, the 3-door is better anyway due to its shorter wheelbase offering more capability.

Those criticizing the Thar for resembling the Rubicon probably can’t afford either. Be thankful of Mahindra for still offering us a rugged SUV. Mahindra has every right to design the Thar as they see fit, so stop trying to stand out to get a few likes and comments. You're not fooling anyone. What do you expect the Thar to look like? It’s natural for it to draw inspiration from the classic Jeep or CJ models.

Force launched 2024 Gurkha saying it was better but Thar 5 door launched with it being better in every way except reliability because the Gurkha uses the OM618 mercedes engine which has a reputation for being extremely reliable but it has been updated for more power over time so idk about its reliability now since the design is also more than 40 years old

Great coverage! I don't like the styling of the rearmost windows a bit. The slant makes the rear look weird. I don't understand why Indian manufacturers never get the styling right. Anyways, a great vehicle otherwise.

they have made the thar less offroad capable and more practical, if they were going in that direction they should have also made it more fuel efficient, but this basically blows the jimny out of the ballpark so i guess it’s gonna be a win-win situation for mahindra

It's the usual marketing strategy by Mahindra-announcing only the RWD pricing, will concentrate on selling the top variant, 4X4 pricing could be a shocker (the top of the line could cost ~Rs.30,00,000) and who in their right mind would offer a light colored (that too White) upholstery for an off roader???? I could be wrong though. I would love to read what other auto enthusiasts have to say. Eagerly waiting for Team Autocar India's detailed review. Loads of love to the entire Autocar India Team. Thar Armada sounds better and it would have been nice to have it named Thar Armada as it is quite a similar proposition to the original Armada; a rugged five door hardtop suv but mahindra seems to have absolutely nailed it with this one; XUV700 features and quality with space performance and the off road capability off a Thar, heck yeah! Bench seats at the back should have been present. Also rear quarter is worst looking , just to avoid legal battle with Wrangler. the rear door looks disproptionate (be it the door handle, or the tall look by leaving some part of roof not covered in black.) The interiors should have been in a different option, as being launched as tough vehicle, it would catch dirt and marks very fast and easily. ADAS was not required, and should have stick to basics just as Thar 3 door. Overall, good execution with few missing things. and 100 times better execution than Force Gurkha.

The C pillar is messed up, and the rear door handle position is odd. Suzuki understood it and corrected it in the new Swift. Mahindra, you missed the target and can't beat the Italians in design.
