I was just trying to say that a lot of his music is kind of painting, where he describes a scene he sees in his mind, like descriptive music. So it kind of becomes silly, so I kind of skip through 90 percent of his symphonies and just go to good bits.

Il y a 40 ans que j'écoute cette symphonie qui est ma préférée de Mahler mais cette version est au dessus de toutes..la façon dont le chef laisse respirer la musique et la précision des musiciens...je suis soufflé ! Et les poils qui se hérissent...ce qui devient plus rare à 60 ans...merci!

I've heard online at least 50 times. The Resurrection stands above all others! The first time I heard it (I'm a very late comer to classical music) I wept. It was a spiritual experience.

Without a doubt, this is one of the VERY BEST performances I have seen on KZbin, and I've seen a lot of them, this being my favourite Mahler symphony. Choristers and soloists sans scores - wonderful to see! And real bells instead of the tubular variety. Sublime!

Wow. There's lots of meh Mahler performances out there, but this *isn't* one of those. Gilbert and the team leap on this piece from the get-go with the urgency it deserves and ... well, just keep that energy going. Great!

wow, this isdefinitelyy one of the best Mahler 2interpretations i have ever heard. Maybe is the best to follow the score (cause Bernstein just ignores the accelerando) the overall piece is also conducted really well and i just like his intertperations and the orchestra did NOT fall short. Bravo!

Well NDR Klassik you've done it again. I have always loved the music of Bruckner,and the Wand/NDR performances of this composer have certainly contributed to that love, but I have never been drawn to Mahler's music...until I came across this video. I found the music and performance compelling and the finale in particular quite moving. I am stunned. Thanks NDR Klassik!!

Klare und wunderschöne Aufführung dieser spätromantischen und großartigien Sinfonie mit gut vereinigten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen aller Instrumente sowie herrlichen Stimmen beider genialen Solisitinnen und gut harmonisierten Stimmen beider perfekt trainierten Chöre. Der intelligente und geniale US-amerikanische Dirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete deutsche Orchester in verschiedenen Tempi und mit künstlerisch kontrollierter Dynamik. Alles ist wunderbar!

Described in some high-ranking music circles as "possibly the most musically satisfying symphony ever composed". Humbly, an opinion with which I can't disagree. There are tempi differences here, also subtle differences in balance between inner voices, other differences that I can't put my finger on, all differences from approaches more usually encountered. But not only will I need to adjust to these differences, I suspect I in the end, I will prefer them. Thank you for an excellent and refreshing performance.
