Looks should definitely be a factor when picking a chassis. Now it will not be the number one factor or even 2 but it's definitely a factor. If 2 stocks offered the same thing at the same price or close to the same price, I'm going to pick the one that looks more appealing to the eye

I have the cadex in the rem 700 aac sd 6.5 and I absolutely love it!!! I wish I would have gotten It several years ago and just put a lot of thought in to it and I would have saved myself a lot of time and money trying to find something I really liked wo spending a small fortune but in the end I ended up spending more by doing it that way cause I never found that gun that was what I wanted.. they all had things I liked and disliked but the cadex is the one I ended up with and I am very very glad I did!! now I am saving for the 338lm duel strike chassis in green... looks amazing and I picked one up at my local gunsmiths shop and wow I cant wait!!!!

Short answer: Chassis tend to have more adjustability, DBM, accessory mounting points, fold for storage, and are hundreds of dollars cheaper than doing the same with a "stock". The downside is that they are harder to find cheap and used, and you will get hassled more by fudds and asked more questions by 15 year olds.

Already went out and bought a Savage 10 FPC .308 and its shoots amazingly. I wanted an accurate out of the box rifle that didn't need any work, hence the Savage. I already asked John this question, just thought others could also benifit from it. As for the training, I've just forked out a bit over $1000 for a 5 day training course in long range marksmanship with an e-SAS sniper (Australia). Savage is the way to go for out of the box performance, Rem 700 for customising in my opinion.

Great video. The Triad Tactical stock mpack shown is old model. I just got a new model Large Modular version. It has movable ammo strip and a moveable AICS mag holder. The pouch is larger and will fit a MilDot Master card. Check it out. I wish John would do a review on it. There is nothing else like the Modular model. Extremely versatile. All new models of Triad now use a tan/grey material for cheek rest material instead of black. I think the black was getting too hot in bright sunlight.

I asked this question in a pm but I think many may benefit from it being asked here. What's your opinion on a Remington 700 vs a savage model 10? Compare out of the box accuracy, availability of custom parts, price, etc.
@ScarsandInk12 жыл бұрын
Seems like a lot, but once you get your hands on it it doesn't sting that bad. They really are THAT nice in person. Just remember that everyones got a different budget/mission/hobby.
@fhsauce12 жыл бұрын
Mostly for two reasons, brand loyalty and availability of third party parts / support. I went with a T3 as my first precision rifle and there is no comparison between that and the stock R700.

How long did you shoot with a traditional stock before you moved into the fancy chassis systems?
@spraynpray12 жыл бұрын
There isn't a lot of info on it and I'm sure you'd do a great job reviewing it. My plan for my bolt 308 changed from 700 in a McRee to a Savage 10 in a McRee to an FN in a McMillan. The build got cheaper and cheaper. The only info I've seen on the McRee was briefing handling one in California. The gunsmith was in love with them, but I am unfairly biased against California and didn't really want to take his word without any specifics.

@ScarsandInk12 жыл бұрын
And it does have a few little niches that my McRee doesn't, but they are merely cosmetic for the most part if I had to absolutely honest.
@spraynpray12 жыл бұрын
I think you should have mentioned how cheap that Mcree chassis is. You can get a Mcree Precision chassis for a Rem 700 for $550. That's a lot less than the other models mentioned in this video and has a lot more adjustability than the $1000 one mentioned. It doesn't come with the top NV rail though, that is an (expensive) option.
@BryantKeller12 жыл бұрын
I'm not really a fan of chassis systems. I think a good compromise for people, like myself, who like the feel of a traditional stock is to use something like an A5 or a T5A stock. Both of which you can get for less than $900/USD and come with adjustable cheek pieces.

I am a long time hunter, getting into long range shooting for sport, just curious on why many recommend the 700 over the T3??

from what I hear it takes 6 months to get it after you but it tho so I am not much on that being it will take me a couple months to save for it so It would b nice to get it right away but it doesn't look like that will happen and the quality is good enough to warrant the wait...

You mentioned in one of your videos using less expensive rings unless you were going to use them for competition where you had to travel. Is that because the less expensive rings might not be as strong or is it that they might not be in spec and if so, could any of the less expensive rings harm your scope?

@8541tactical10 жыл бұрын
The Cadex has Strike models for Remington short and long action rifles. So you can get a Cadex chassis for any Remington 700. They will all bolt right in to the correct chassis. In the case of the rifle shown, there isn't really any "build". You just remove the old stock and install the Strike 30.

You can buy a really nice house for what you can spend on either one. If your building a rifle for Plinking, Camping, or general walking around, save the cash and build a Savage. My 12 FVSS runs 1/2 MOA at 200 yards with the factory barrel. Save your money and spend it on training and experience. The rifle will shoot better than you will 99% of the time.

I read somewhere that BDL stands for Better Deluxe. I have a Remington model 700 BDL (SS) it came with a removable magazine, not a hinged floor plate. The stock appears to be similar, black with Monte-Carlo stock, and very flimsy. No fore end reinforcements, small lugs at the extreme forend that press forcefully against the barrel. No pillars, all plastic. It boggles the mind that one of the best bolt action rifles on the market comes with what could possibly be the worst stock ever! The research I did into reinforcing the stock, adding pillars, and bedding the receiver convinced me that the only option is a better stock. Any comments?

Sorry, old comment but this is for anyone else that stumbles upon it. Cadex makes some GREAT chassis systems that a durable beyond belief. But, the market in 2016 and 2017 is flooding with demand and more companies are coming about, offering comparable chassis for a fraction of the price. A great company would be MDT.

The Cadex chassis system in the video is awesome but a poor choice to compare to a B&C stock as far as price. The Cadex chassis are top tier and astronomical in price. A better example would be the cost of a MDT LSS chassis system vs a fixed stock. John never did review this Cadex but has reviewed two of MDT chassis systems. They are one of the most affordable IMO. I have to say I am still torn between the MDT LSS and a B&C. I LIKE having a Triad Stock pack. I love my stock pack. I would have to give that up ( I think) if I used a light Magpul CTR stock on a chassis system. The LSS basic chassis is only $400.
