We have 2 Maine Coon boys and both are guilty of this smelly habit! So they've had a few extra baths for sure! But thank you for the video because it does help to hear that this is a normal thing. Can't wait to see more!

I have two Coonies and have NEVER encountered this issue since they were kittens over ten years ago. I keep two oversize plastic tubs (from Ikea), I use WBCL (corn based litter) with plenty of depth so they can dig until their heart's content and they always cover up. They are spoiled I admit because I have converted one closet dedicated just for them as their own bathroom complete with circulation fan. They have to feel comfortable and have privacy. This is so surprising to hear these issues. Yes, the sanitary "toosh" trim is a necessity, easy to do on your own.

You are lucky! I have several friends with purebred Maine Coons who dealt with the 💩 issues like us. Glad you didn’t have to! 😅

My Maine Coon mix Emme has a tendency to fly out of her litter box and then leave dingle berries on the floor. I ALWAYS wear slippers. Lol

I can totally relate, as Hey stepped in his poop too, although it was pretty occasional.

My new Maine coon kitten stepped in his liquid poop this morning. I didn’t realize until he jumped on my kitchen table in front of me while drinking my coffee. he isnt a fan of water so washing him is challenging. I hope he outgrows this. And his sister doesn’t do this too Bc I move into a place with all carpet in June lol😂

I have a half Ragdoll boy who doesn’t bury his pee and steps in it and often gets poop stuck in his back legs. The cleanup is a nightmare! He’s nearly 9 months old so maybe he’ll grow out of it

My beloved Mileena looked similar to Molly, except Mileena didn't have the hair on top of her ears. Thankfully, she didn't step in her poo, even when she was a kitten. Unfortunately, she died at 6 yrs of age due to a heart attack, & blood clots. I miss her so much it hurts. 😢❤❤

That’s terrible. We are so sorry for your loss ❤️

Thank you. That means a lot to me. 💖💖Mileena was a precious cat that I will always love and miss her presence in our lives. I also miss her for my sweet dopey black & white tuxedo cat Ace. She was Ace's best friend. 😥💔🐈🐈

Do your Maine Coons spend a lot of time covering up their poop? Maybe they're just so engrossed in the behavior as kittens that they actually end up uncovering it. That would make sense, as they seem to grow out of it. Our DSH started stepping in her poop when she got older because she became less effective at covering it due to her arthritis. It got to the point where we would check her paws after we heard her scratching in the litterbox, and clean them off with wet paper towels as needed. She tolerated this amazingly well, probably because wearing cement shoes must have been uncomfortable and her reduced mobility made it harder to clean herself. And we also asked our vet to give her a sanitary trim because she would sometimes get cling-ons and she did not enjoy our attempts - however gentle - to clean that area. We started placing old pillow cases on her favorite lounging spots so she wouldn't leave stinky butt kisses on our furniture and bedding.

Sometimes they do, but not always. Moose spends a lot of time covering his poop, but he’s always been pretty clean with not stepping in his 💩.

I had a Maine Coon mix named Mileena, & she never had that problem, thankfully. I had her since she was a kitten, and she was always a beautiful kitten & grew into a beautiful cat. Unfortunately, she died when she had just turned 6 yrs of age. I miss her so much it hurts. 😢❤❤

Knock on wood, so far, my 5 month old male Maine Coon hasn’t done this yet 🤞🏻. Around what age did you neuter your males? I’m being told conflicting things and I’m just curious. Thanks!
@davidsaunders906 Жыл бұрын
Around eight months if possible to allow development.
@lifewithmainecooncats Жыл бұрын
If yours hasn’t stepped in his 💩 already by 5 months then you may be in the clear. Consider yourself lucky! We had our boys all neutered around 9 months and haven’t had any issues since.

It is a bad habit they have We clean the litter box daily and throughout the day Ours is 7 and she still does it Female thing?
@lifewithmainecooncats Жыл бұрын
Well, since our female Maine Coons (not Annie) were messier with their 💩 as kittens, I believe it’s worse with females. But that’s just been our experience.
