Story 5: I work as the night shift manager for a gas station as well. Any time I see a large group of people, I don’t care how diverse they are, if they all enter at once I go into full alert. I see teenagers, young adults, old people, they could be mixed races with males and females, the whole nine yards of different. If they all pile out and come into the store at once my eyes are on them.

As a Russian former night shift clerk, I can confirm I was in a pretty laid back and nice job. However, we sometimes got the odd customer who definitely got kicked in the balls and is fairly pissed off. Unfortunately one such person came up to me, punched me, and took off with 2 stolen bottles of vodka. I had a black eye which is nothing too serious but another customer came towards me and yelled at me. He said: WHERE IS STARBUCKS?? I told him they abandoned us and I swear to fucking god steam was coming out of that dudes ears. I was terrified but thankfully he left. Honestly I have no idea why anyone would miss starbucks but whatever. TLDR, I got punched, vodka got stolen and a furious dude almost attacked me over starbucks 💀

I once had an old man walk in and get a coffee. He sat there for about 30 minutes and we talked. It seemed entirely normal until he had mentioned something about the farms behind the gas station and that he lived on one. He was telling me abt how this new gas station was such a help to them. I was confused because there weren’t any farms and it was a neighborhood behind the gas station now and there wasn’t any fields anywhere nearby. I kept my mouth shut and gave him a chuckle because I just thought he was a senile old man at 3am drinking a coffee. He walked out of the store and I noticed the coffee was still sitting on the counter a few seconds later. I went to go let him know and I was only maybe a few seconds behind him after he left. When I walked out, I didn’t see him or any cars. I went back inside confused and saw the coffee on the counter. So I thought I wasn’t going crazy. I went to check the cameras and no one was in there. I was talking to no one and the coffee was already on the counter. I couldn’t find when or how it got there. But I still haven’t figured out if I was just seeing things or not. I later on ended up looking up the area and what it used to look like in the last. The creepiest part is that there were actually farms surrounding the gas station when it was first put up. I was pretty confused the rest of the shift. For anyone curious, yea I worked there for a little over a year and regularly did 8-16hr shifts all overnight or afternoon to overnight. Have too many stories to tell but I was indeed robbed at gun point. On another occasion I had 5 police officers walk in unannounced with ARs in hand. They looked around and quickly left. Still never got an explanation for that one.

I worked nights for about a year and a half at a convenience store in Portland Oregon in 2009-10. I was 18 and would be alone and bored out of my mind most night, so I was always happy to have some excitement. One evening a couple older guys with long gray hair come in and buy smokes, some snacks, and chocolate milk. The shorter man looked real tired, maybe a little drunk, took his snacks and headed back outside. The taller man adjusted his wide brim hat and let me know he and his friend would be resting in their car as they were on a long trip and wanted to make sure that was okay with me. I sized the guy up, he had some kind of robes on and hair was in brades -- this is Portland, seems legit. I told him the street was public property and I didn't have a problem with it so he headed back out, tipping his hat and saying he may need to come back for some more chocolate milk. A while later on, I headed outside for a smoke and he came ambling out of his car and we chatted for a while as he sipped on his carton of milk. He told me about how he'd recently returned from India after 10 years of living nomadically and seeking spiritual enlightenment, living in various temples and working there to earn his say and becoming a monk of sorts. I headed back inside and noticed him outside later, pacing around the front of the store playing a guitar. Again, as I was often alone all night, having a whacky dude hanging out making his presence known outside the store was cool with me. When I came out next time I realized he had brought a rug, couch cushion, some candles and incense and set himself up a whole little bohemian squat pad out front. I got a kick out of it and we chatted whenever I came out to smoke the rest of the night. He proceeded to smoke joints, play guitar, and told me more stories. The one that sticks out was about psychically connecting with a mural of an indigenous woman South of Portland while high on LSD, how they were soulmates separated by time, and how much he regretted not being able to save her from living in a mental asylum in her later years. He also nearly had me convinced to give up my earthly possessions to go to India by the end of the night. He napped on the mats he set up outside (probably a lot cozier than the car) and had everything all cleaned up before my boss arrived in the morning, even helping clean up some stuff around the parking, took off and I never saw him again. Think about the guy all the time and wonder what he got up to since. Also, years later I did see that mural. It's the Opal Whiteley Mural in Cottage Grove, Oregon. It is beautiful and her story is both beautiful and tragic, I could see it being very moving while having an LSD trip.

From hearing random footsteps, moans and even sudden loud bangs inside the store when it was just me alone. Going outside was worse. I'd always see fast moving objects dart off in the distance, atop the snow covered hills. My other coworkers that worked nightshifts absolutely refused to leave the store even to lay down ice melt. I cannot remember what the MC’s name is but it’s titled something along the lines of “ tales from the gas station“. Just make sure you start with the first one or it can get kind of confusing there’s Eldritch gods, death cults, killer bugs that come out every 20 years sort of like cicadas and it just happens to coincide with the time the MC is working at the station. It’s kind of like a darker Douglas Adams story. Oh yeah I think there might be might’ve been odd zombies tooBut I don’t remember that one exactly it could’ve involved the death cult.

All are dressed in black denim, couple cowboy hats between 'em, heavy boots, tattoos, etc. Four guys and a redheaded woman. They fan out, walking up and down the aisles before meeting back up in front of checkout. The woman says "Well, he's not here." And they start to leave. The oldest dude sees me looking and (in a heavy Russian accent at that) says "Enjoy your evening now, okay?" Before lighting up a cigarette on the way out. My best story so far is from the gas station I worked at (I work at a truck stop now) had a guy come in about an hour before closing. Few things: I worked closing alone. I made my trainer smile day one because she said to the boss "oh good you hired someone that won't be intimidated by me." I was in my mid 30's 5' 7" and MAYBE 100 lbs soaking wet. I'm a disabled veteran. And lastly, at the time I was in therapy and seeing a psychiatrist for PTSD at the VA. So, dude comes in quietly while I'm in the back cleaning the tea urns. I shut the tap off and hear a food step in the store. Whatever, sometimes I just can't hear the door chime. I step out and no joke there is a black clown standing infront of the counter. This neither shocked nor scared me as I had expected far worse but it never happened while I was there. I put on a big smile, apologize for not hearing him come in and ask what I can get for him like it was 3pm and he was dressed like a "normal" person. He replied "I just need to get some smokes and gas" he said like he was shocked that I wasn't bothered by his getup. I got him his smokes turned the pump on and chated with him so he felt more at ease. I know others in this area would have freaked and possibly have called the cops on him, but I was a female veteran AND I nearly failed kindergarten because I refused to believe all of October including Halloween was apart of my birthday. He was welcome to stop in after his wrestling gigs any time. Then his hype man came in and I couldn't keep my composure 😂 I ended up getting a picture of the two and wished them a safe and pleasant evening. Sent the pic to a friend who works as a medic for the league, and my sister. Friend tells me the guys stage name and we have a shared moment of enjoying wonderful customers like him. My sister on the other hand calls and yells at me for sending her a picture of a clown. 🤣 The strange and yet satisfing thing from this when I saw my psychiatrist a few days later. Jerk has called me hysterical for having a normal reaction to being asked what my traumatic event was and scoffs that I couldn't keep it together better (I JUST started therapy two weeks prior and I had no meds yet) so this appointment he starts with "so how was work this weekend?" I open my phone, pull up the picture and say "sooo, this walked in" I hand him the phone and watch him panic. I look fine but I want him to show his true colors before I explain that nothing happened and he really needed to deal with his terrible judge of character. Still very much panicking he rushes through my appointment and gives me a mood balancer for reasons (?). A day later I see my therapist. She too asks how my weekend went and I show show her the picture. We both laugh and enjoy the absurdity of the situation. To end her session I tell her a joke "Jesus is afraid of clowns..." she spat out her coffee and asked me to repeat myself "Jesus... Is afraid of CLOWNS!" she then lowered her face and tried to hide a huge grin. She was on the verge of busting out laughing in front of a patient because she realized I wasn't talking about the Holy son... No I was talking about her colleague and that would be a very unprofessional thing to do. I had a few more tit for tat moments with my psychiatrist before Covid lockdowns but he never won after that week. I like to think I'll never be in his office again since I work at a truck stop now but who knows. I'm only 6 miles away from his office, maybe after a terrible customer I'll stop by with another story and picture 😂 Don't mess with cashiers.

I once worked a graveyard shift and had a regular couple come in. They would always sit in the parking lot for hours and then come in. This was a big store but not like a truck stop big. They would spend about an hour walking the small aisles like it was a grocery store or a Walmart. Then would buy their things, walk back to their vehicle and sit there for hours. It happened like 4-5 times a week. It wouldn’t have bothered me but they would come in during my serious time where it’s dead and I wanted to get things done without worrying of customers.

I worked graveyard shift at a gas station for about three years and while I've had my fair share of stoners, old drunk guys proclaiming they love me, and even a girl with no pants who irritably back-sassed anyone who dared to ask her about it, there was only one time I had to call the cops. So its probably about 2:30am and a taxi pulls up and drops this guy off in the parking lot and driving off without him. Kinda strange but I figure maybe the guy has some friends in the area who are picking him up from this spot (we were at a major intersection so it was a somewhat common meeting place). I sorta keep an eye on him through the cameras while tending to other customers and duties and after a while I notice he's checking out other people's cars while they're unattended. Kinda sketchy but I just tell myself maybe he doesn't know what his buddy's car looks like, desperately trying to ignore the red flags that are piling up. Eventually he enters the store and wanders around a bit before coming up to the counter to purchase a pack of smokes. When it come time for to collect payment he drops a stack of random assorted business cards on the counter as if they were money and insists I take them as payment. After a lot of back and forth I finally get him to produce a credit card to pay with and take his pile of business cards back. He hangs out near the counter while I take care of a few other customers and I'm getting more uncomfortable with each passing moment. Eventually it's just the two of us left in that store and he turns to me and asks if I'm the only one there. Now, people always tell you to say "no" if someone asks you this but in that moment I had a realization. If I say "yes" then he'll know I'm alone, but if I say "no" and he demands to see the other person and I can't get another person for him (because they don't exist) then he'll know I'm alone AND I lied to him, so reluctantly I inform him that I'm the only one working. He immediately responds with "I know there's someone else here, where are they?" I had not accounted for this nightmare scenario. Another round of back and forth and I eventually manage to convince him that I am, in fact, alone, at which point he starts muttering and cussing as I desperately try and think of a way to get him out of the store. After a minute or two of this he turns back to me and says "Look, we're about to be under siege and I don't want you to get hurt." Every internal alarm is going off at this point. I try to get more information but get nothing but vague non-answers. Eventually I ask if we should call someone, looking for an excuse to call the cops without possibly upsetting him, to which he went into "It doesn't matter. It won't help. Nothing matters anymore." mode. He then tries to light up a smoke in the store and I see my opportunity. I inform him that he can't smoke in the store and he fires back with "It's fine. Nothing matters anymore. It's already too late. Blah blah blah..." Several more minutes of back and forth and I finally get him to go outside. The moment the door closes I grab the store phone and dial 911, shakily explaining the situation to the operator while watching him on the cameras. He eventually goes around a corner of the building to where there are no cameras and I begin to panic more, watching the cameras like a hawk for any sign of him. The operator thankfully stayed on the phone with me until the officer arrived who took a look around and could not find the guy. Apparently crazy dude had wandered off into the night in the time it took the officer to get there. He took my statement and told me to call again if the guy came back. I then called my friend who lived nearby and asked him to come keep me company for the rest of my shift. No way was I getting stuck alone with that guy again. I ended up never seeing crazy guy again and frankly I'm fine with that.

Working at a gas station just down from the local tweaker and alcohol addict den of a hotel that also had a reputation for by the hour (though they didn’t literally do that) and saw my share of high and drunk people on overnights. You could see who had a hard life. But some of the tweakers were so sweet and protective. One lady was in the store when my (then) soon to be ex husband came in begging for me to take him back. She saw how my demeanor changed and offered to stay with me just in case, which I accepted. He left pretty quickly after that. My parents were 18 years apart in age and they married just after she turned 18. I was born 2 years after that and was either 19 or 20 when this happened. My dad was in his early 50’s. There was a guy who would go to the store all the time especially when he saw I was working. Kept hitting on me and I politely declined every time. He was literally old enough to be my dad. Not just a little older, he was in his mid 50’s, married, and hitting on me. The cherry on top? His brother in law worked at the same store and apparently knew about his habit of being unfaithful to his wife. 🤦🏻♀️ And what would a gas station job be if you didn’t have the people trying to use counterfeit money and bad checks? And this is why I don’t want to ever work in one again

Didn’t work at a gas station, but worked nights at hotels for over a decade. I dealt with some weird and crazy things: 1. One of the first times working nights. Had just gotten out of the Army and wasn’t expecting anyone, so I was going to run audit around 3 am. All of a sudden, I hear a noise like gunfire. I was just short of yelling in the direction of the lobby “Get Down!” A few minutes later I stick my head up over the front desk and it’s two guys coming to check in. Embarrassed big time! 2. A deaf couple was starting to get into a physical argument. I called the cops and told them both the guy and lady were deaf, but apparently they either didn’t care or understand me, so the cops had to wait in the lobby for about 25 minutes before an interpreter arrived. 3. A guy tried to pay for a hotel room in crack rocks. Needless to say, I told him he couldn’t stay. 4. Manager and one of her friends tried to make me out as someone who would backstab one of the front desk people and try to become the #2 in charge (TBH, I wanted no part of that with the owner being a cheapskate and a jerk). However, both the front desk person and maintenance person thought that was the truth and thought I said that, so they’re both yelling at me for something I had no clue what was happening. I told all of them I just wanted to do the job to the best of my ability and then go home. 4. Around 3:30 in the morning, get a call from someone inquiring about what amenities and activities there were on the property (different hotel from 1-3). One of the things I told her was that she could feed the farm animals. She then asked if there were any monkeys there. I told her in the U.S, no monkeys works on farms. It was cows, goats, chickens and a few horses. She proceeded to get upset and say “How dare you speak to me like that! I want to speak to your manager.” I told her “Ma’am, it’s 3:30 in the morning. I’m the only worker here! No one gets in for another half hour, and that’s the bakery staff.” She then immediately hung up. 5. The hotel was part of a power source that was linked to at least 15 other businesses and houses in the area (was a smaller city, so that’s the best they had at the time). Around 1:30 in the morning, a pair of guests are asking why the hotel has no power. I had no clue and outside of the emergency exit signs, there truly was no power, and the guests were in the middle of watching TV when the power went out. I come to find out from my boss that the fire department had a 4- alarm fire at a local bowling facility and to control the fire they had to turn off power to the entire area, which apparently the hotel was linked to. It was about another 2 hours before power was back on. 6. About 6-8 members of a wedding party were sitting in the lobby. One of the guys in the wedding party asked if I wanted his wife. I politely declined cause I didn’t want the guy to then be upset that I was trying to make advances on his woman, but he kept insisting. She was a pretty blonde, but I didn’t want to deal with weekend drama. 7. A set of 2 couples first tried to book me up with the one woman (I wasn’t interested in the slightest) and then those 2 proceed to get into a fight where the cops were involved. 8. One of the former owners (transferred ownership to his older brother when older brother came back from his honeymoon) came back to the hotel between midnight and 12:30 after getting kicked out of the reception venue 1. For getting overly loud to the point that the police company across the river got called for noise complaints and 2. The winery was closing for the night. So they showed up loud, tipsy, hungry and drunk. 4 members grabbed 12 pizzas from Domino’s and ate until 3:30 am. My former boss broke a beer bottle when he was too inebriated (his wife apologized profusely). 9. Had an R. Kelly song moment. About 10:30 pm, I was trying to take care of trash near the end of my 3-11 shift and was trying to work from the 3rd floor down so I could be closer to the lobby and still take care of guests. In the middle of me checking the 3rd floor housekeeping closet for trash, I got locked in. 10 minutes later, the fire alarm panel at the desk goes off (false alarm: batteries were dying). However, I couldn’t confirm whether it was a real alarm or not, so any guest who called, I advised to head outside (better safe than sorry). In the meantime, I’m trying to call my boss/owner to have him at least take care of the fire alarm before myself. He gets that resolved and then tries to help me out with a coworker. About 1.5 hours pass and they’re having no luck. I manage to find a spare piece of metal and use it to pry the door jam open. 10. One of the messages passed along to me as I got on shift one night was that the owner brought in a new worker through a friend of a friend to fix one room and a few things in the conference room. The worker got things done in the room, called the owner to let him know the room was done, and then proceeded to start with the conference room. During a break he took, he took enough drugs to be rendered unconscious. After a few hours pass and no response, the owner has the GM check on the guy, finding the guy OD-ing. The ambulance workers give him enough Narcan to save the guy’s life, but the guy is expected to be in the hospital overnight and has left his motorcycle, helmet and keys at the hotel. About 5.5 hours after the drug incident happened, that worker shows up to pick up everything (2 am at this time) and drive himself back home.

Not a gas station but I used to work the night shift in a 24hr tobbaco/ off licence in Brighton, UK. A guy came up to the counter at about 2am and asked me if there was any chance he could use the back door of the shop to leave. The shop didn't have a back door, the only way in or out was through the front. I explained this and asked him what was up. He told me he'd been at a gay bar and had left with a guy who had seemed nice, but during the walk home the guy had started getting really weird and the guy at the counter was trying to book it now. I told him the best I could do was go out the front for a cigarette and try to distract the weirdo while the other guy ran away. I went out and struck up a conversation with the weirdo and managed to get him to turn his back to the door. As soon as his back was turned the guy inside booked it hard out the door and down the street. The weirdo noticed a few seconds later and turned to follow but the first dude was already long gone. I took the opportunity to slip inside and lock myself in the security cage around the checkout. It honestly felt like something out of scooby do but I was glad to be able to help out. Edit: there's at least a half dozen other crazy stories from that job but this is the one that stuck out most

I work at a game store (you know the one), and we close at 11PM during the holiday season. I’m the only person who knows how to close, and two nights ago I had to stay until 2AM to finish all my closing duties because a guy who looked like Rob Zombie (who was either on some illegal cocktail or just not all there) would. Not. Leave. He just kept going on and on about Funko Pops, telling me the ins and outs of how to get the best ones and mentioning other stores in the area that weren’t to be trusted because they mark up the prices and nobody knows the TRUE value and all sorts of stuff. I finally got him to leave when I called the store phone from my cell phone and pretended like my boss was chewing me out for being open so late. He left at 1AM. Other regulars to this store include Cowboy Ron- a guy who looks like a Red Dead Redemption NPC, with multiple vest/chaps/coat/cowboy hat options. Donna, the biggest Karen in the state. The guy who dresses like Dante from Devil May Cry. Derek McWhopperSauce (my coworker worked with him at Burger King, and apparently this dude ate a 5:1 ratio of sauce to burger), who’s the local nutcase and self-proclaimed professional ghost hunter and founder of the Lakeshore Paranormal Group. Fascinating people come into that store, very few of them socially acceptable.

Not a Night shift worker but I was at a gas station with some friends coming back from Universal Studios when a VERY angry guy came in, slammed a box of beer and profusely apologized to the cashier while calling his friend every name in the book. Apparently their friend stole the box and the guy turned the car around so fast to bring it back. Threw a couple bills asking the cashier not to call the cops too and left the place after, speeding away still yelling at the friend. That was a lot to take in after the Horror Night adrenaline wore off on us 😂

I worked nightfill at a grocery store for a while and met some interesting people through that job, mostly people studying who needed a job that didn't conflict with classes. One guy was this huge biker looking dude, a bit crass but one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. One night he's panicking and asking everyone if we've seen the cops outside, which most of us hadn't. As we're walking out at midnight he gets escorted to a cop car and taken away, he doesn't put up any resistance. Turns out one of his friends had murdered a guy and my co-worker help bury the body in the bushes, he was charged with accessory to murder and went to jail.

Good area but you have trouble with Karen's and you'll wish you worked in the hood. I work at a truck stop between both types of areas, I also don't tolerate non professional behavior, not from the customers or employees. The worst part of the job is honestly corporate.

Currently working as an overnight clerk in a nicer part of town thankfully. Unfortunate for me my injured knees amd being a small stature girl I got a lot of attention from people i do not want attention from, not that any is comfortable for me... In any case two nights for me stand out as the worst. One a woman not much more than I am would come in every night and try to get cash back three or four times more than I am allowed to bg company policy and would literally take all my money from the drawer. Over three interactions I put my foot down, hiding my anxiety and chest so tight I glared at her and told her no for the first day. She got mad and began insulting me. The second day I attempted to refuse her service. Well, she got pissed and snatched the book full of paperwork for the store i was filling out and my personal pen. Threw them at me after she made me ring her up and i force cancelled her cashback from my end telling her she can pay and leave my things. Thats when she threw them. The third night I see this woman pull up and I grab the store phone and lock myself in the back office on the phone begging the cops to show up while this woman pounds on the door insulting and threatening me. I began having a panic attack and I realize Id left my anti anxiety meds in my purse under the front counter. Thankfully she was trespassed and I havent seen her in months. The second night was due to two guys at two different times of the night. Guy 1 came in reeking of booze and was getting snacks. He spent the whole time trying to make small talk and pointed out a mess a previous customer left. He then insited to clean it when he saw my two knee braces. So I didnt fight him on it, figured I would actually clean up once he left. I heard him mutter "good girl" as I walked away. I stayed behind the counter and was very uncomfortable, shutting down into silence as he comtinued trying to talk to me but was now going down a line of questioning my personal life and choices which i chose to remain silent. He finally saw my ring and walked out looking pissed after paying like I was the one who wasted his time. Guy 2 came in a while after this guy, I was wrapping up cleaning. He noticed me in the back of the store cleaning up stock and a spill. He gave me a smile I felt was off. I greeted and said something along the lines of "I'll be up there in a minute" and he came closer and said something about how he was "coming to get you" and being confused i took the mop to the back as he got closer, saying again how he "wanted" me. So being paranoid I felt I had to lock myself in the office. Saw on the camera he had parked with his passenger door close to the door, across the handicap space and at least one other to be paralell to the door. I called the cops but he left before they showed up. But because it wasnt a robbery company doesnt see a reason to have two people on the overnights. I now hate Feb 15th because of these men. Apparently a similar interation as Guy 2 happened to my boss one night I was off sick and she threatened to hit him with the case of beer she was already holding. To my knowledge he hasnt returned, at the very least not on my shifts.

I worked nights at a doughnut shop and had a lot of insane things happen; the place was haunted and the sprinkles buckets would often float around, mostly behind our backs but sometimes in front of our eyes; I saw skeletons walk past the front door one night and leave skeletal handprints on the glass that were still there in the morning; had three people attempt to rob us, one pretended to be a cop and kept banging on the door for half an hour and only left when I threatened to splash 400degree fry oil on him if he broke in.

I worked overnight shift for a Midwestern chain general store/gas station. Little town, big meth problem. We did made to order sandwiches and pizza in the kitchen as well as fresh doughnuts. Had two fellas of a particular ilk come in and bought (if I recall correctly) 7 12" sandwiches "with all the fixins" at least 4 large pepperoni pizzas, as well as 5 pepsi 30 packs, 3 dr pepper 24 packs, and like 10 family sized bags of chips. They also tried to buy a bunch of mini propane tanks we sold, but we were locked out by the system from selling them past 10pm and selling more than 1 per purchase. They paid me for the food and left. The cook said "they must be hungry" and I told him "Nah, they're carbo-loading, gonna be smoking some meth tonight". A few months later, I saw one of the fellas in the paper after his house got busted in a drug sting.

I worked at a Gas station/Burger King in Central Texas. There was a lady who always came in and spent $400+ on $5 tickets. She told me she won a ton of money and also learned she had cancer. She had less than 6 months left and her daughter was being an "Entitled B****" trying to sell off her stuff before she died and even trying to take her to court for the money she won. So she was pissing it away on the lottery. She did win $10K the month before I met her. She was a nice lady, friendly , chatty, and would move out of the way when another customer came up. I made sure not to get to know her too well because I had just lost a friend to a heart attack. She died a few months later and the daughter was pissed her mother pissed the money away on lotto tickets and charity drives.

i worked the graveyard shift at a convenience store in nowhere wyoming many years back. this store had no reason to have this shift at all. i took the shift when it opened as a favor to my then (now ex) boyfriends mom. in the 3 months that shift existed i had 2 customers. 1 came in and bought every single case of light beer that was in stock. every single one was on sale and as this is wyoming i assumed the guy was taking advantage of a sale. (i dont like the taste of alcohol so i dont know how good the sales were) come morning i make sure to let the manager know they need to order more. manager gets angry and yells i should have denied the sale as the night prior was homecoming or prom or some big crap with the high school. i was 20, i didnt pay attention to that when i was IN highschool. anyway the one other customer a kid at most 15 years old came in and grabbed some condoms and a redbull. i had to bite my tongue so hard i wanted soo bad to ask - sooo what are you up to tonight? lol

I worked in one of three gas stations in my small town. It got bought by new owners who had also bough another gas stations in a city about a hour away from where I worked. Because of staffing issues they asked some of us in the small town gas station if we would be willing to work in the one in the city. I said sure since they told us they would pay for our gas and give us some extra on top of our normal pay. I normally worked the night shift at the small station so they decided I would be best for the night shit at the bigger locations. The difference being that the small town one closed at 10pm where as the city one was 24/7. I normally worked till midnight so got to meet lots of interesting people. The main one being this lady that walked in wearing full ren fair mixed with steam punk garb that was a bit deconstructed. She shot me this look though I barely noticed it and I said oh cool outfit. She looked a bit surprised, but then asked if I went to ren fairs. I said I did when I had time. She then talked to me a bit before giving me the facebook group name I could go to and check out and talk to people by giving them their name and that she said I was cool. Never did check out the group though I wanted to and eventually quit because my boss was not a very good boss and moved away. I to this day wish I could remember the name so I could check it out as I have moved back to the small town.

I used to work as a domino’s delivery driver. It was closing shift so it was 5pm-12 or 1am depending on the night. But I always closed. I’d get the odd customer here and there. Or angry people who didn’t understand that after 11pm I was the only driver and I’d have to take three deliveries at a time. But I remember one delivering was in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. The driveway was a mile of gravel into the woods, and signal was there, but extremely shotty. When I pulled up to the house it was dead silent. I could hear twigs snap in the woods around me. I was terrified. But the person who greeted me at the door was the sweetest most kindest elderly man. Gave me a $20 tip on a $35 order. I left there and nearly hit a deer on his driveway. Crazy night.

Working at a gas station in Texas in the early 90's. Several police officers was in my store when the dispatcher calls to talk to them. My friend talked to her. I overheard where, when, what way, and any weapons. Then they all left in a hurry. A little while later my friend came in to use the bathroom and asked me to watch for a Camero. He left after getting some paper bags. A little bit longer I see a Canary yellow Camero without tail lights. Call dispatch and told them. I then went about stocking the cooler. A customer came in and I went to check him out. There in front of me was the person they were looking for. He bought his cigarettes and went to leave. Got to the door and my friend came rolling into the drive.the man looked at the police, looked back at me a couple of times then ran to his car and went to leave. He pulled up to the road and acted like he was going to get out but took off. My friend followed. They lost him on the dirt roads.

Worked a truck stop for 6 years and have hade unfortunate passings before and during my time there. We were haunted. Here's my personal experiences. Edit: these are just the paranormal stories. I have a bunch of gross stories similar to the video. None of these were overnight; I worked the 3pm-11pm shift. The door opened wide by itself on a night with no wind. Cabinet drawers full of cigarette cartons rolled fully open. Cleaning a woman's restroom; sign taped on the door and blocked by a mop bucket. I'm in one stall scrubbing a toilet and catch a figure walk buy toward another stall. I call out that the restroom is closed. Take a look and no one was in the room but me. Sign and mop bucking still blocking the door. Automatic paper towel dispenser in a men's restroom is going off on its own like crazy. Wipe it down because water near the censors can set it off. Still going off like crazy; small pile of paper towels starting to form. Politely ask a ghost to stop setting the machine off because I know we're haunted and nothing else worked. Dispenser stops right after I ask and goes back to working like normal. Cleaning a different men's restroom; same like the woman's, sign taped to the door, mop bucket blocking the door, room completely empty except for myself. Hear the distinct *chug-gug-gug* of a toilet paper roll spinning in the plastic holder. Door to the stall wide open and empty.

Worked as an assistant manager of a gas station. Had to do over nights at least two shifts a month as some sort of "you really should know what your people actually do" sort of thing, which is a really good practice to have (I absolutely SHOULD know what all shifts are like if I'm going to be out here assigning tasks) so I didn't mind. Some dude left his wallet and phone on the counter one night. And when I say wallet, I mean it was basically some dude's attempt to not have a purse kind of wallet. With his drugs in it. And his phone didn't stop ringing all night. And the police didn't stop around until five hours later. Also some asshole stole the riding lawn mower from the shed of the business next door and tried to say the manager (he meant me, the manager of the next door business) said he could have it in his legal defense, lol. I didn't have to go to court or anything, it was an unplanned strat his lawyer was not OK with.

Was working trees maintenance at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Oahu for a bit but had worked a gas station for 5+ years before then. I showed up to work a little early and needed a pack of ciggies so I bit the bullet and paid the 18 bucks from a shop on the property. While I was waiting for my boss there smoking, I started a convo with a tourist and while we're talking, a homeless man walks by across the street and sits down for a few minutes, then gets up and leaves, But leaves the McDonald's cup hed been "drinking" out of. Me, knowing what's going on, says to the tourist "watch, in the next few minutes, someone's gonna come by and take that cup". He didn't believe me but sure enough a few minutes later, an even rougher looking homeless dude walks by, looks around, grabs the cup and looks inside. Then he walked away looking all sketchy. The tourist was impressed to say the least.

Husband didn’t work at a gas station but was the assistant manager at a pizza place in the same strip mall as a gas station. He was closing up super late one night (like 1am or something) and he started to smell smoke. He looked outside and the roof of the convince store attached to the gas station was on fire. That very not good as, you know, gas is flammable. He called 911 and it got taken care of. The hvac system for the whole strip mall was connected so they had to close for a few days due to the smoke smell being to strong for the workers to safely work. The gas station was closed for almost a year after as well. It’s very lucky he was there because if he wasn’t then the whole are could have gone up in the resulting explosion.

For anyone wondering story 35 is a ref to the nosleep horror comedy Tales From the Gas Station about a guy with a sleep disorder who seems way to calm about the bizarre shit around him. Everything referenced is considered act 1.

Not a late night gas station shift worker, but I used to work at Taco Bell in the early mornings. I was a young woman, about 20, and I guy comes up to the front counter. I take his order in my usual cheerful "I work fast food" manner and he asks me why I'm not wearing an engagement ring. I said I'm waiting for the right guy and he proceeds to tell me I'm beautiful and starts showing off all the jewelry he got back from his ex girlfriend. It was mostly super awkward, but I handled it; he wasn't violent or anything, so nothing happened. Then he got his order and right before he left, he took my hand and promised he would come back for me and sweep me off my feet. I kinda laughed nervously and shrugged it off. Never saw him again, but I'm now happily married, and I have been for three years.

I was a night shift charge nurse at a nursing home. We had a problem of a man calling asking to buy our used nursing shoes.

I’ve been a gas station cashier/manager for a decade on/off. I’ve been forced to work while our building was hit by a tornado, overnight during a blizzard with no power, and changed tires for old ladies in the rain. I’ve been harassed by customers, messed around with both coworkers and customers in the coolers, passed out home made wine to our entire working staff, taken the entire night shift out to smoke a blunt…… lots and lots of weird, unexpected things happen to gas station employees. All of that just to dissuade most people from reading the actual story I wish to contribute. One night, at around 2am in the middle of the week, I had some older guy come in with what looked like it could’ve been his granddaughter. She looked like she was maybe 12, at the oldest, and she just came in to use the bathroom. When she walked to the counter, I remember her lips. Not much else about her, but her very thick, very swollen lips on a face without so much as a hint of a bruise. I honestly didnt realize it at first. After they left, I couldn’t stop thinking that something felt…. Wrong about the pair. I brought the pair up to a co-worker who asked if I thought she was being trafficked. That’s what it was. The whole damn time, and I could tell something was wrong, and I was too damn dumb to have been able to help anyone. That was 8 yrs ago.

I work at a gas station (not 3rd shift) and I once had someone come in and tell me he just got out of jail. He apparently planned to somehow walk to texas (this is in Wisconsin) and somehow a few minutes later, 5-6 cops showed up and put the dude in handcuffs. He didn’t even try to resist, and no one called the cops, they just showed up after he did

A pint of ice cream, a box if tampons, and whiskey. Relatable. Would also make a good oversize sleep shirt.

24 hr gas station in a college town. New co-worker went on break from 1am to 3am. On Halloween. in a college town.. I was swamped. As I was changing the coffee I saw a couple sitting at a table in the back. The girl looked out of it. I asked if everything was alright. He said she just had to much to drink. Customers kept coming in so I had to get back to the register. Guy comes up a bit later and buys a water bottle and asked if he could check on her in the bathroom. I'm a guy, but coworker is a woman. She still hasn't come back and there is no one else here. I reluctantly tell him ok.(I've has several friends almost die from alcohol poisoning so I was also worried about her.) He comes out later, buys a can of chew and leaves. Coworker comes back finally and I chew her out saying she needs to write down that she wasn't clocked in for this hours(this is not the first time she's done that). She says she will but needs to use the bathroom first. 40min later cops show up. They head straight to the women bathroom. Drunk chick was "R"Ed and "washed out" with the same water bottle I sold the guy. Cops got the security footage and his credit card info as her friends show up and comfort her. I would have sent coworker to check on her but she was out for hours so I sold and "R"est the bottle he flushed his victim out with. Coworker tried to say something to me about it but as soon as the regional manager showed up I told her not to talk to me and clocked out. I hated everything about that night.

former 7/11 clerk here I was 16 at the time, working in the late afternoon, half a dozen kids from the same school as me came in and I think they didn't see me behind the counter, because they went strait to the alcohol section took six beers and came to the counter, when they looked up the one in the front almost jumped as he recognized me from class, I did my best "are you sure of what you are doing?" face, he silently picked the beers back dashed to where he picked them from and dragged his friends from the store. as far as I know none of them ever came back to that store again🤣

A customer tried to pay for gas with a fake 100$ bill. At the gas station that was closest to the city's police station. While there was a police officer right behind them. Not the best plan of action for him.

I've not experienced them. What I have is anecdotal at best. 1: Someone shat on by the outside bins by the shop entrance of where I used to work, told to me by a cleaner. 2: A suspected inside job, a group of guys broke in when the coast was clear and robbed the cigarette kiosk of all the cigarettes we had. I only saw the aftermath of the door being broken open with a crowbar, the kiosk shutters bent upward with said crowbars, and police talking with night shift management. It was because of that night that our breaks were ammended so there were still staff on the shop floor to dissuade would-be break-ins, plus we weren't allowed to leave the key in the door. As if they fucking needed that to get in before. 3: An attempted robbery of the store's petrol station. Another group of guys tried to break into the petrol station one night but were alerted to the sounds of a passerby shouting at them. He may have been trying to shoo them off, but instead, they beat the shit out of him before fleeing. Thinking they went back to try again, the beaten man grabs a weapon and returns to the petrol station himself, only to be tased by police who were called to the scene. Initially, they thought he was one of the suspects as he was brandishing a weapon, but I think they let him go after the misunderstanding was cleared up. I don't know if medical services were called out, but there you go. All at the same store
