I just purchased the Stihl FS 56 trimmer with the auto cut head that you show in the video. I have brought it back to where I’ve purchased it twice. Here’s my issue. When I am using the trimmer IM having to tap the head too often to extend the line. I get about 6 to 10 feet of trimming and the line is disappearing inside of the head. I do hold my trimmer upright most of the time in my yard to edge my mulch beds. The last trimmer I had for 15 years was an echo and I only had to bump it 2 or 3 times to extend the line in the 45 minutes that it takes me to do my yard . This trimmer seems like it is very well-made but I am confused as to why am I losing the string so fast. Thank you
@style5tie2 жыл бұрын
Soak the head in some water for 24 hours or so before using. See if that helps. It sounds like the line that's in the head is dried out and brittle. The head itself isn't causing the line to wear/break faster.

I just put this head on my Stihl 56RS. I hated the old head and had issues with it throwing the string out. After I put this head on I used it for about 3 feet and the string broke off inside the head. Had to take it apart to get it back out the feed channels. Same thing again in 3-4 feet. Thought maybe the string was old and it had been on the shelf or something for a while so put new Stihl string on it. The knob is extremely hard to turn while loading it. String would not feed again. Any suggestions? POS or something else?
@mainstreetmower5 ай бұрын
The knob is hard to turn, but we have not found any issues with breaking line. The new line should have fixed the problem. I would guess if you were having problems with the old head too, it’s likely what or how you are trimming. Edging with a line trimmer and chain link fences are big line eaters. Also you want to operate with the line at full length and cut with the tips of the line. If you are diving in too quickly on vegetation that is too thick it will wrap around the trunks like Indiana Jones whip and yank it off at the eyelet. If all else fails, take it to your dealer and let them test run it for you to see if they can duplicate your results
@CudaGuy-be5kz5 ай бұрын
@@mainstreetmower Thanks for the follow up. I do not have any chain link or trees. Only using it on fescue against a brick and stone fence. Use an edger for the sidewalks. I dont think it has anything to do with how I am using it but I do like the idea of letting the dealer run it some. Thanks again.

This thing stinks. But so do the Echo SpeedFeeds. Constant line welding, even after soaking the line in water, bumping often, and running very slowly around fences, etc. Tried almost a dozen different line brands and sizes. I’m running a Husqvarna T35, and so far it has been much less hassle. I like watching Main Street Mower videos, but they almost always slant everything positive towards the brands they sell or service (like Stihl). Just keep that in mind when watching.

I'm skeptical on several fronts. First off who cares about the packaging and accompanying instructions. No way this head is holding 26 FEET of line. As for functionality, I've spent more time replacing the line and throwing away unused line than I do actually trimming. The load process is also sub-optimal. Again, I spend more time removing jammed line that is supposed to auto feed with each bump. If this works so well, show a demo of the trimmer and head working in normal conditions.
@kensternberg37802 ай бұрын
My, my how “simple” it is to take this apart and reassemble. It’s anything but. If Stihl truly wished to help customers it would copy what Echo does with its trimmer heads.

Simply the worst head I have ever owned and I have owned Stihl products for over 40 years. I wore out three of the previous heads on my previous Stihl trimmer. This head is going in the garbage like the autocut head that Stihl introduced in the 90’s. It was the one with three plastic blades and a short piece of string. The insertion of the string and the winding is the easy part. When you bump the head some times it feeds and sometimes it doesn’t.

So sorry to hear about that experience. Personally, this head has served me very well. I am not sure what exactly might be the problem with the unit you received.

Hmmm, well mine has only just ran out of line after 4 years and do you think I can get the new line to load - nope. Tried all sorts, even took the head off like you have and no, not happening lol. I know it's just me but I hate the thing.

I have a lifetime worked with stihl tools but Husqvarna T35x is beating the shit out of stihl autocut and is what i use on a stihll tool. Totaly new design, bal bearing knob, aluminium core bolted to axle, durability axceeds 3 stihl autocuts.

Thanks for the video. The AutoCut C 26-2 is the cutting head that came installed on my Stihl FS 56. None of this information is in the owner's manual.

Thank you for watching. That was the purpose of the video. I felt not enough information Was given out about these heads, that's why i made this video. Glad this was useful.

Stihl line is weak. Breaks way too easy. You can buy cheaper line that works better and save money.

This thing sucks hard to fill and once you finally get it filled it binds and breaks shit product.

I believe you mentioned 8 m of .095 line but my Stihl dealer recommended only 3 m. Orla great.

We’ve tested it, in the video we measure it, the instruction in the package say 8 m

I have a Stihl grass cutter. When it stopped working I went on EBay and got a brand new carburettor for 15 dollars. Yes they come for China but... when I took off the original carburettor it didn’t say made in Germany but made in China. If you have any trouble with carburettors on Stihl Honda lawnmowers don’t waste any time trying to clean the carburettors. Waste of time.

Thank you for sharing. Can we convince you to watch this quick tutorial and maybe change your mind about cleaning cabs? Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anesoINrnrSjn7M

@@mainstreetmower Yes I have seen the tutorial. These small carburettor are a fiddly thing. The trouble, in Europe, is that we can only buy petrol (gas) with 10 percent ethanol. It wasn’t so bad before when it was 5 percent. The carburettors are all right but the ethanol destroy any rubber or plastic gasket. We can buy the kit to service the carburettor but it cost the same as a new carburettor. I am 81 one now. My time is running out. The last thing I want to do is waste some of this precious time is taking a carburettor apart and put it back together. Sorry. No can do

So am I understanding correctly that I do not have to remove the head from the trimmer to add new line?

Everything worked Just as you said it would. So easy-to-use. I didn’t even take the spool off the trimmer, just pushed the line through the hole after lining it up and then evened the line up and started to crank the head as showen on your video. All together it took about 3 to 5 minutes and I was back to trimming again. Thanks for the helpful video. 👍 👏
