Maintaining your Braids at Home for Hair Growth

Many of us tend to forget about our hair once it is braided. We assume that we have a breather and that the hair will take care of itself. Many of us are wrong!
With our hair braided, there is a bigger need to keep your scalp moisturized because the braids will suck out and absorb all the oil they can get; and in the process leave your scalp high and dry. This is one of the reasons dandruff is a big problem with braided hair!.
So, in order to ensure a good environment for healthy hair and hair growth, it is important to:
1. Apply a leave in conditioner and treatment. This will not only keep away the itching, dead skin and dandruff, it will also provide good nutrients for the hair follicles. When our hair follicles feed well, they grow the hair shaft.
2. Apply a moisture sealing oil. It is preferable to add one with natural oils that are known to promote hair growth as well. The heavier the oil, the longer it keeps the scalp moisturized. The lighter the oil, the more opportunities for you to re-apply it and massage your scalp thereafter. Regularly massaging your scalp is one of the top boosters of hair growth.
3. Moisturize the hair in the braids. The hair locked up in the braids also needs to remain strong and healthy otherwise it will lose its lustrous shine, become brittle and break. Using a good hair spritz will help put a protective coat on the hair shafts, strengthen them so that you do not lose that length.
All the above can be done daily or every other day in under 10 minutes. Remember, the more love you show your hair, the more love it shall show you as well.
