EXCELLENT session... LOVE the Major Scale Patterns.pdf. It is very helpful to know what BOTH hands "should" be doing. I really like your teaching style... works for me! 👍👏👍

Thanks Karen! This one's really mostly about the fretting hand, but you can add the challenge of alternate plucking if you'd like. I'm glad you enjoy the lessons! Cheers!

@@stephencoxbass 🤭🤭🤭funny... thanks for the friendly correction. I think the big take away for me was to use the Middle finger to start the Major scale and the Index finger to start the Minor scale. I look forward to where I won't have to use the grid sheet to figure out how to play the arpeggios! 😛

@@karebehrhoff You're doing great! You'll get there before too long. Just remembering that one thing about which fingers to start the scales on will help with the arpeggios as well. I'm glad you are sticking through the course. Cheers!

Great Video as usual. I use the scales a lot in creating Bass lines for songs where I can't find tabs or song sheets easily. Same with Arpeggios which I call mini scales LOL. Of course, unlike just playing straight scales, Arpeggios have a place in some songs. Scales to me are really good to learn for those Walking Bass Lines among other things. -------- Now for the unrelated to this video stuff. I did see Sungazer with Adam Neely and Shawn Crowder as advertised. If you have ever seen any of Adam's videos of Sungazer live, it was not only exactly like that, with a few exceptions, they even played the set they played in the same order. It was insane. Adam was good and did a Classical Gratuitous Bass Solo LOL. Using his 5-string Kissel he played the whole time. Adam, and all the Musicians, Shawn, and everybody else on stage were great. With that said, I did take some Videos and Pictures from the show, and I will put them up somewhere this weekend and email you the link to them so keep an eye out. Shawn on his Channel just happened to post the 4+ minute epic drum solo he did from the Atlanta show on his KZbin Channel. Audience participation and all. The way that video was shown, you may see or hear me participating. Who knows. Adam Neely's latest video on his channel is another one of those song music theory breakdown videos based on a viral video. Please watch it and give me your thoughts. In the video, he talks about using Sungazer live shows as an experiment to the video. Even though he did not show Atlanta in his video, he did play the song in the video in the Atlanta show the same way, and the audience acted as expected LOL. -------- Anyway, keep a lookout for the video and pictures from Sungazer. Whatever I can't send you directly to open, I'll put it somewhere online and send you a link. I hope all has been well until the next opportunity we have to hang out in person together musically or socially or both. Otherwise, I'll see you here and via email responses. Can't wait until lesson 8. As you say: Cheers 😀

Great points about scales being great for walking basslines! I was teaching someone the other day that one difference between blues and jazz walking lines are that blues lines are often more Arpeggio based with walk ups/downs from scales on occasion, while jazz walking lines are more often walk ups/downs with occasional arpeggios. I'm so glad you saw the show! Adam Neely is fantastic! I'll have to check some of those videos out soon! I hope all is well. Cheers!

Merci pour aide, c'est très bien expliqué. en plus j'adore le son de votre U-Bass, est=ce qu'il faut un ampli spécifique pour une U-Bass avec des cordes métalliques ?

Thanks for watching! I normally use any bass guitar amp. I like the Fender Rumble series, but any bass amp will work fine.

At the risk of a dumb question, am I to understand that when supporting a song that move s to a minor chord then the pattern should be taken from the Minor key scale rather than the Major key scale
@stephencoxbass

Over that particular chord, use the Arpeggio from the scale that matches the chord name. I hope that helps...it's kind of tricky to explain without demonstrating, but if I understand your wording correctly, yes. And it's not a dumb question at all. Thanks for watching!
