Awesome video meteo mark it looks like my chances of finally getting my 7 inches of snow with a winter storm here in newark ohio is significantly increasing I'll be glad when the streak of 8 years & 3,244 days comes to a end

YES at moment nothing coming down 24.0f cloudy yesterday there were a few bursts of a good snow i was out side clearing sidewalk while some came down still await a good hard LAke EFFECT 2 come

It is going to be really close, I think the warning criteria snow will remain just to the south of Akron for Monday storm, but could pick up close to 2 to 3 inches on the northern edge with potential advisory criteria snow. May not be enough to complete close school but it will be close, at least delay potential.

It is crazy how close they will come, but just not drop anything in your area. It will get very cold which will help to likely keep these storms just south of you. I think it is only a matter of time as we progress toward mid to late January that your area will likely get a winter storm with warning criteria snow. I will keep an eye on it and keep you posted. This has to be one of the most wintry patterns I have seen in quite some time, especially comparing to the last couple of winters where it was almost non existent.

Spot on, I agree, more than a 90% chance of 5-8" for Franklin County PA. Best chance for warning criteria snowfall is in full swing.

@Meteomark Agreed, BUT nothing a guarantee until storm makes landfall in Oregon Friday or Saturday. Hoping model soundings make it favorable for heavy snows here in Chambersburg Pennsylvania and Hagerstown MD. It’s going to be really close. I think the worst of the snow hits just north of Houston Jan 9-10, however the system if it moves just a little further south it could get Houston in accumulating snow ❄️. Watching this closely as I think Houston will still see some wet snow action. I will keep you posted.

Thunderstorms ⛈️ to ring in New Years Eve with an intense couple hour period in between 7 and 10 pm New Year's night on the coast of NJ in Island Heights, NJ near Toms River. Who would have thought? I hope the Euro and GFS are right for snow in my area on Monday. I am about 55 miles east of Philly. ❄️

Crazy weather for sure on New Years Eve with the thunderstorm action and wind across your area in the Northeast. That was quite an intense storm system that made us feel a bit like Spring for a time. Your area is looking really good as far as the path and snow growth ratios of being a nice fluffy piling up kind of snow. Definitely watch as this may end up being a warning criteria event with widespread 5-8" amounts with some areas approaching 10". Keeping an eye on it, I will keep you posted. Best chance I have seen in a long time. Let's dent that snow deficit.

Do you think central to north New Jersey will shift and get more than 1-3” ??

Current thinking is that high pressure over eastern Canada will likely keep the storm far enough south to keep the northern edge over central and north NJ. I do think there is a chance that some areas across central NJ could reach 4-5”. More than likely most areas especially northern NJ 1-3”. I do think there is still chance this does wobble slightly north and one thing that could help the storm overperform is the snow will be a light fluffying which will help it pile up. I will keep you posted.

I am thinking there could be some snow squall warnings with the tomorrow morning snow squall moving through picking up a quick 1 to 3 inches with some gusty wind and near white out conditions in NE OH.

Hello, I definitely agree Chambersburg PA and Hagerstown MD good sold bet for 5-8"+ Widespread with locally higher amounts potentially approaching 10". Going to be very interesting as there is a lot of lift and moisture on the northern side of this storm. Nice Cold pool of air should keep the cold air locked in your area for the entire event. Good snow growth potential could help this storm over perform as it will be a nice fluffy snow. Friday clipper looks like a quick inch or two and may prompt some quick snow squall warnings. Could the places with the ice accumulations actually have a worse time of it? Forgive my ignorance, but being a south Florida kid, I have no experience with ice & snow.

Great question, the places that get ice accumulations just south of the main band of snow, will definitely have a worst time of it. Ice will likely lead to more widespread power outages and travel becoming nearly impossible or extremely treacherous in many areas. As the event gets closer, I am going to utilize the mesoscale models to show the devastating ice totals that could accumulate on the ground and surfaces in my next update. I suspect that those areas on the liquid equivalent precipitation maps that were getting nearly a half inch to inch of liquid, in the form of ice will likely come out to 1/3" to 1/2" ice in many areas with some areas getting close to 3/4" of ice.

Do you think the gfs or the ecmwf will be correct, or the gem. Sour central pa is where I’m at and I’m hoping for the gfs but not getting my hopes up just yet.

I am thinking the GFS will be a bit more closer given the amount of moisture associated with this system and the lingering snowfall on the backside of the system as it exits the coast. I do think the GFS is just a tad further north than it should given the placement of cold air and high pressure, as I am believing more of a blend between the GFS/Euro but more favor on the GFS. I think South Central PA is definitely going to be right in the bullseye of best snow growth and snow banding on the north side of low pressure system. Storm will likely put a widespread swath of 5-8" with locally higher amounts near 10" in some locations right across the southern Counties of Southern PA, especially South Central PA.

I am noticing as the east is getting colder, your region of the North West is getting more rain and less snow. That may start to change toward mid February as I expect the pattern to start reversing a bit, and may end up getting more snow once again in the North West. The North West will likely see more rain that snow going forward these next few weeks.
