Even if you ignore the racial component, the large salaries for small result from the education executives, how can you Not have enough money with marijuana sales, sports betting and lottery for something so basic as schools? Shameful

The legacy of slavery and the intergenerational poverty continues. The poverty and the trauma go hand in hand. Breaks my heart. We need to do more, always.

This story is incomplete. Let's consider who the school taxpayers are in these districts. How many of them are property owners paying taxes and how many live in subsidized housing or low income apartment complexes. Schools make money off of taxpayers and the majority comes from the local property owners or state residents. If you live in an area where home ownership is almost non-existent or live in a poorer state then you are not going to have money to fund these schools in neighborhoods where poverty prevails. Sad but true.

@@ThatsJustMyBabyDaddy No they didn't. They played the race card. Wealthier districts are going to be able to fund school districts because the taxpayers are actually working and owning property. Poorer districts tend to have renters and residents with either lowly wage jobs or live on welfare benefits. People on welfare are NOT paying taxes therefore their school districts will suffer more.

@@ThatsJustMyBabyDaddy In some states over 70% of the school budgets goes for teacher's salaries and benefits. That leaves 30% for educational materials and building maintenance and upgrades. The ratio is lop-sided. In a public school system, States need to do better so that the funding is equal to the number of students who attend school. Unfortunately, a lot of school funding comes from local taxpayers and the budgets that the Districts put forth. Most school year days are 180 days and yet teachers are paid salaries equal to those individuals who work 52 weeks a year including holidays and weekends. And most Districts do not want to strain budgets to make repairs or upgrade their buildings. Teacher unions hold them to their contracts and that overshadows building maintenance. It needs to change so that children are not attending schools that are toxic to their health.

I remember being told that funding comes from taxes, taxes come from property owners, and people in apartments don't pay property taxes and black people are encouraged to by apartments over home ownership .

I first noticed this inside Colorado itself. We lived in a rich fancy area and then our landlord had the house we were living in foreclosed, so we got evicted. We had 30 days to find a house for 7 people so we took whatever we could find and we moved to southern Colorado Springs which was poorer than where we came from. The teachers were, and I won’t say bad, but unmotivated, nonchalant, and uncaring at times. They weren’t being paid enough and the teachers who are under paid but still do a great job are heroes to society. This needs to stop, every child deserves a fair shot. Do you know how many people who changed the world in their lifetimes came from poverty? Poverty is the biggest motivator to obtaining power and or wealth.

Let’s not embellish or get dramatic, schools get plenty of cash it’s just the kids are not very smart and able to absorb information unless there’s a joystick controller in their hands.

13 schools in Baltimore have zero kids who can do math at their grade level. The top 3 schools in Balt only have 11% of kid able to do math. You better put away the swimming pools and Basketball and football stadiums and start teaching.

Okay, let's punish the kids for the failures of everyone around them not doing their job. There is no reason that these kids can't have all of that and have better math scores. Let's take away the pay and job from those that fail the kids and not THE KIDS who are dependent on others for the failure.

Amen to that! No amount of money or teaching is going to help kids in which most are born with a low propensity or ability to learn.

Sometimes you have to do for yourself. We know what we want for our children but instead of helping self we wait. Yet, you have all of these multiple millionaires and billionaires people of color who do not spend more on their own communities. Thaddeus Bullard Sr. Aka Titus O’Neil saw the needs at Sligh Middle Magnet School and addressed it . Look at the school now. I know it is going to be said that it is the governments job to provide, but what role do we play? Do we just stand by and wait for the situation to change? Do we watch the continued degradation of our children? Or do we jump in and help our own? Those with the means to help, should help. Not superficial help but real sustainable help - help that adds value. These are our children! If we don’t step in, who will! Action not words Act not complain Lots of black people with the power and funds to change the narrative, if they care as much as they like to TALK about it.

Lots of successful black lawyers who can bring educational boards to book and force change. Lots of successful filmmakers who can tell the true story - keep the people in the know. So much talent within the community! If all come together, imagine the impact it would have on our communities 🙌🏼

According to Article 1, Section 8 Enumerated Powers of the United States Constitution education is not the federal government’s responsibility to fund. Education funding falls on the state government to fund without Federal Government reimbursement expectation under the 10th Amendment States Rights.
