Worked in Wolverhampton for six months about 12 years ago and Majors was the place then for excellent fish and chips. The golden battered chips are to die for . Thank you for reviewing them, it has brought back very fond memories. So much that I've shared this out to my former work colleagues.

I don't live in the UK anymore, but I am from Wolverhampton originally. I would ask Matt & Jess to visit Miami Fish Bar on the Dudley Road in Blackenhall, Wolverhampton, a few miles from Bilston. I think they;ve changed ownership in the last 3-4 years, during which time their fish and chips were KILLER, lines out the door. Not sure what it is now, whether its Covid, or the tariffs on the fish making them more expensive and the chip shops only make to order now... . Alternatively, the shop on Upper Villiers Street in Wolves was also epic when Sam the Greek guy ran it in the 80s-90s. MAGIC.

Lightly coated battered chips. The best in the UK in many peoples opinion is Krispies in Exmouth, Devon. Their exact recipe for the battered chips is a closely guarded secret, so you won’t find anything like them anywhere else on the planet!

I worked in Darlaston for 6 years just around the corner but I commuted daily from the North West. Colleagues that I worked with told me about the orange battered chips. They were top drawer I have to say and I had them numerous times with curry sauce and some colleagues used to have a jar of cockles with it too! Its a mad world !!

There my favourite, every time I'm in the area I go in. Bare in mind I live in Leicestershire, and can't find a decent chippy near me. So I go to majors and the island chippy you reviewed. You need to try fosters fish and chips in Alderley Edge.great fish, crispy batter, nice portions well worth a visit if in that area.

Nice blog and a brilliant review and you realised how quite Bilston Town is, since Major's have been doing battered chips for along time other chip shops in Wolverhampton region have been following this idea so fair play to Major's who came up with this unique idea and they haven't stopped cooking chips and still going strong in a quite suburb of Bilston, I would also recommend when everything is open due to the restriction from COVID19 that you should try Barbeque Desi Mix Grill's in the pubs like Angel Inn, well known for there Barbeque Desi Mix Grill at Bilston as well,

Black Country is Bilston, Wolvo in some regards, Willenhall, Darlaston, Wednesbury, Walsall, Dudley, Tipton, West Brom, Oldbury, Blackheath, Cradley Heath and Brierley Hill. Hence when Wolves and West Brom play each other it is called the Black Country Derby, also in the Black Country Stourbridge and Halesowen

Best chips flavour wish they would expand all over the UK 🇬🇧, I would say the fish is better some days than others but standard enough. Secret recipe I reckon Bacon dripping or beef dripping batter maybe with a hint of paprika 😆 I have no idea, but it is a winning formula. New subscriber.

Mate im from Bilston and my in laws are from luton. My in laws love majors chips but say the same thing about the fish. Go check out Sam's in luton that's where my in laws been going to for years and their fish is lovely. They always say if Sam's fish was with majors chips it would be the perfect combo

You can’t eat a lot of them! Used to be Friday lunch from MIddletons when I worked in Darlaston. Damn near filled me up for the weekend! When I lived in Lichfield the mobile chippy from Stubbers Green used to stop outside my house on a Saturday and there’d be a queue even though there was a pretty good chippy just around the corner. He’s right. They are unique!

Your lucky I watched this go to Ekin in Belsize road London it’s the best kebab restaurant in the uk easily , be warned you need to ring in advance and they don’t sell donner ! 😂 but it’s the best of the best of the best , them chips looked another level real 10/10 but that fish looked 5/10 at best !

Not the same now. The three good chippies in Darlo have all changed dramatically The Green used to be decent don't know if it still is. Carols on the border between Darlaston and Wednesbury Walsall and Sandwell and also on the border with Pleck used to be great we used to use it but now it has changed and Middletons my dad remembers as being quality even my tutor at College heard about it and his family went there now it is not as good and very quiet barely anyone uses it anymore my dad described queues out the door but now I see one person in there sometimes most of the time no one at midday or so on Saturday I popped in and was the only the one getting served I walked back past it about 4PM and there was 2 people in there
