To be honest, it would have been MUCH easier to make the bottle window as 2 framed boxes, each one laid on its back when pouring the cement. after the cement has set, it's just a matter of lifting the boxes into the window frames. No spilling cement onto the roof, no mess no fuss. definitely a 2 person job though.

Thanks for listing the supplies. I am looking at doing similar with soda/beer bottles on a log cabin we are slowly building. I planned to put in concrete and bottle windows/walls on the planned bath area off the main cabin. My husband laughed at the idea until I started collecting boxes of cut glass bottle blocks I’d made.

Watching you fill the top was pain staking. Try a ziplock bag and cut the corner off like a cake funnel. Helps fill those tight areas.

I had the same thought. Likely because I worked as a baker when I was younger.

What are cut bottle blocks?

When you make a framework and cement the bottles into it, then you lift it into place, not easy, since they can weigh dozens of kilos when done.

Looks good. Thanks for mentioning how many bottles you used. I plan on doing this to the windows on my garage and have no idea how many bottles I'll need. This will give me an idea of how many I need to collect.

Its no small feat. But when its done its almost indestructable... use less concrete than I did... and squeeze in as many bottles as possible! Boom.

mortar to wet, i clamp a 10x1 board on front, so all bottles are even, i use dryer mix with fibres, then finish both sides with plain mortar mix.

Loved your video! I think these windows are beautiful! I'm curious about the materials used. Like the jars or bottles or glass bricks??? Were they just recycled or where did you get them? Did you have to alter them ? Did you just find different lids, sorry very curious? Thanks for sharing!

I cut all the bottles in half with a bottle cutter (glass cutter on little wheels) and then duct taped them together. You can leave them as is, but the open ends bothered me, even though you could use the jars as hidy-holes, it would cut out too much light. A very rewarding project.

Love this. What concrete bonding product did you use to ensure bottles would stay in place without shrinkage as it dried? Any further tips you would share since the project has stood the test of time? Thanks for sharing .

I simply used builders concrete with 5mm gravel in it. Next time I would use straight mortar without the stones and put the bottles much closer together. I wet it every day for a week or so from the outside to stop it cracking. Thanks for the feedback.

@@goinfullirish9465 Thanks so much for the reply. Definitely inspiring.

there was not enough material for shrinkage to be a big issue, plus the cement had 5mm stones throughout, which supported the bottles well.

Did you use the total bottle? Or did you cut them? If used the total bottle what did you seal them with?

Not very detailed. I thought there would be written instructions on what he was doing step by step. No instruction on what kind of concrete/mortar he uses and worst of all no finished product pick!
