This tutorial shows how to make a lovely ring with a leaf and vine look surmounted by a carved Citrine. It has a distinctly Art Nouveau feel to it. I would call this one an advanced project. The stone in this one is a 9x11mm carved Citrine. For materials, I used 14 gauge sterling round wire, 16 gauge sterling round wire, and 18 gauge sterling sheet. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful? Scroll down for information on my new Patreon!

LOVE everything about this ring! I probably would have found it easier to solder the little leaves on last with easy & used hard for everything else. But you were good enough to make it work. The carved citrine is REALLY pretty!

Hey Chad! I’ve got an idea for you. How about 3 ways to make adjustable rings…with stones. I’ve been looking for a good design for sturdy adjustable shanks for larger cabs like turquoise, jaspers, etc but haven’t come up with any I’m really thrilled about. Curious to see what you do!

Hi Chad Thanks for another awesome tutorial. I love adding leaves and vines to my designs. Your ring is very beautiful. With regards to the tiny leaves, have you thought about using a shot plate to create them? I recently was gifted one. They are quite fun and surprisingly detailed considering the size. Xx

Amazing! I’m a beginner-self taught. I know you’ve done bracelet videos but is there any chance you could do a bracelet video? I have a stash of turquoise and I’m so scared to start! Lol. I want to honor my heritage and have made a lot of jewelry but no soldering. If not no worries, I’ve learned so much from you-thank you so much for that. You’re the only metalsmith/ jewelry design show I watch because you give so much information and actually show the process. Just thought I’d ask, but again, thank you for your beautiful designs and instructions. I just don’t know how to get started even though I have all the tools😅

Hello Lauryl:). Thanks for the nice comment! If you go to the playlist page, there is one dedicated to bracelets. What sort of torch are you using? If you are making big bracelets, it helps to have a hotter torch.

Hi Chad! I have a large-several actually-but they are butane. It’s does really well for brass and some simple, simple soldering I’ve tried. I have also done the pmc sterling silver and it works great for that I’m just not a fan of the medium. I also have a plethora of tools and supplies-most of the big tools I haven’t even take s out of the box lol. But I’ve been making jewelry for years so I do use the dremel, flex shaft etc. I have watched your bracelet videos-over and over😬. I guess I’m just afraid or don’t know how to get started? Thanks so much for replying and you’re calming and funny tutorials-you’re an amazing artist! And you are so right when you say we’re our win worst critic! Take care:)

I was told fine silver does not need pickling like sterling silver 925 Is the true?
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing 7 ай бұрын
I never use just fine silver alone, so that is a good question. I tried to find the answer with a casual search, but was unsuccessful. You might try one of the jewelry forums like Ganoksin. There is probably someone there who would have your answer. Perhaps someone who sees this question in the comments and knows the answer could address this. Anyone?
@Junoshelly
@Junoshelly 7 ай бұрын
As fine silver doesn’t tarnish, it’s not necessary to pickle after annealing, but if you have flux burnt on from soldering, you may need to pickle to remove that. Flux will spoil your tools if you don’t.
