This tip shows 3 different ways to set quartz crystals. There are tons of variations as far as designs for these go. These require a little tricky soldering, so probably an intermediate project. The materials for these can vary, but for these ones, I used mostly 22 gauge sterling sheet, 26 gauge sterling sheet, 14 gauge sterling round wire, 18 gauge sterling round wire, 3/16 inch fine silver bezel strip, 1/4 inch fine silver bezel strip, and some 22 gauge sterling round wire. This will probably be part of a series where I show a few different settings for quartz crystals each time.

Finally got around to watching this one. I love the settings, they are all great. I don't think I have ever seen anyone else put other stones on a quartz setting, but I really love the idea of adding other stones to the quartz settings. Nice.

Thanks for another great vid! While I don’t have crystals to play with, I can see how I would be able to adapt these methods to some coral pieces I have from Maui, and also some longer, narrow beach stones from Tahoe. Hmmm … 🤔

Using glue or epoxy makes me sad, but I understand the necessity with a stone with completely straight sides. When I saw the thumbnail I was blown away thinking that maybe there was something I hadn't considered yet. Oh well haha. Wonderful video as always and it's nice to see the quality of the videos themselves improving, as well. Cheers, Chad!

Thanks Cody. If you ever find a good way to do it gluelessly (that tried to autocorrect to cluelessly which is the way I already do it, hehe), let me know:). I don’t love using it either. Thanks for the nice comment Cody!

Could it be possible to rivet using a drilled hole center? I have some quartz I'm going to experiment with, but I don't want to use glue. But mine already have a hole drilled into the sides, so I'm going to try drilling into one and see if I can make the hole bigger (0.8mm fits, but not 1.0mm 😔) I always end up sticking my fingers together so I'm trying to avoid glue. Loving the 3 examples, I'll try those too 🤞

Since I started working with naturally shaped crystals I have loved it so much! One thing that helps me is to put the solder joint on what I think is the back of the crystal. That helps me fit and set it quicker later because they have so many angles. Thanks for sharing! I love your videos! I also have a crystal shop if you're looking for any new ones.

@@chiomascharm4596 There’s an area North West of here where I occasionally break into a really nice pegmatite pocket. Mostly clear with some phantoms but quite a bit of hematite staining. That doubly terminatated one in the video was from there.

I started in the mid 90’s. Keep making stuff and when something goes south, look at it as an opportunity to figure out what went wrong. The key to soldering silver is figuring out where and when to apply the heat so components reach soldering temperature at about the same time. The mass of each part plays a big role in when that happens:). Don’t give up! Things will get easier and easier the more you practice and analyze what is going on!

Hi Chad, Thank you for this amazing video. I've been looking all over for something like this. Do you have any recommendations for cleaning the extra glue on the stone? I see you wiped it off but I imagine it may show the glue residue on the stone. Also, Do you have any tips on polishing or just making the stone shine? Sometimes we get these stones that can use a little more shine.

Thank you for the superthanks Joyful! Acetone works as a good solvent for epoxy. Some folks clean their quartz crystals in various acid baths, but please read up on safe practices if you do that!

For the solder, did you use med or hard? I'm starting new (have taken a few local classes) and wondered what you used. For the easy stacked rings the instructor used easy/med, but most videos I've watched are using hard and med.

Hello Michelle. I do things a little unconventionally in that I use hard solder almost exclusively. I occasionally break out some easy for a spinner ring or a hinge pin, but never have used medium. If I remember correctly, I used only hard solder in this video. Thanks for the comment:)

Hello, my friend. I have a 19.94 mm rose quartz snow sphere that I would like to put in a spinner setting. I see them in spinner settings on Etsy, but I don't know how they do it. Is there glue between the round caps and the sphere? I can see that the spheres aren't drilled, but maybe I'm wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. 💜
