I made this Japanese-inspired garden toolbox with a Sepele wood Cut Off given to me by my friends at Greene Street Joinery. The garden tools are made by Carona Tools and they are really nice high-quality tools and they make everything from small pruners to rakes and shovels.

Beautiful! One skill that gets overlooked is how damn good you are with the pencil. Marking 5e measurements, plane lines, drill lines. Very good!

I’m drawn to the pencil and well loved Stanley tape every time…So many folks have their fancy pencils or marking knives/tool - all good, but it’s refreshing to see a good o’l #2, Stan, his finger as a guide down the side of the wood, and just get to work.

Jon the thoughtfulness of your designs and the quality of your builds are brilliant. I would like to see you go into a little more detail on your design thought process. It would also be of interest to know just how long it takes you to design a project and more importantly, the time to build. Thanks for the great channel.

Thanks Tom, I designed this project around the size of the tools. I got a bit of a design block on this project when it came to the handle so I walked away for a few days and when I came back I added that little scallop at the ends using a can to make the quarter circle.

The part where Jon smacks the handle at the end is a little know martial arts technique called "Comment Defense Striking". Takes years to learn when and how to execute it.

Wow, such a nice little project, Jon~! I've seen you use Sapele over the years and I love how it resembles Mahogany. I've finally run across a place here in Augusta (GA, not ME) occasionally carrying Sapele, but they only get boards about 3/4"-7/8" thick. Better than nothing though, I guess. Thanks for sharing~!

Nice job jon.personally I would've like a dovetail on the contents but each to their own. Talking of dovetails, did u see Rob cosmans dovetail speed record just got destroyed from a hippy who can't even see the wood through his hair. We need a real woodworker to get this record back. We can't have a Beatles lookalike tarnishing the woodworking world like this.

Beautiful design, I would like to make one. I know you built it to size for your tools, but I was hoping for some plans, did you make some up for this, I did not see them on your web site, also I have been looking to upgrade my compound miter saw, I am hoping to get one with a blade depth stop, does your saw have one? It looked like yours may because of your 1/2 lap cuts. If so can you please let me know what sliding compound saw you have and how do you like it? Thanks Jon, I love learning from you :)

I’m making one of these for the wife’s birthday is the sapele for the main box milled to 3/4 and did you use 4/4 or 6-8/4 for the handle milled down to what? Btw soon as I saw this I knew this was what I was making her .
@JonPetersArtHome
@JonPetersArtHome 3 жыл бұрын
Awesome thanks! I used 6/4 for the Handle. The material for the main box is made of five eights sides and bottom. The end pieces that hold the handle are also made of 6/4.

There are plenty of great channels out there if you want to learn how to do hand tool woodwork. Paul Sellers is the best KZbin channel and he has free online courses as well and would be a great resource to start with if you do not have any power tools and want to learn for under $100 worth of tools.
